Man, this build is going so well! I really like these cars! Don't get me wrong I like my '68 Camaro, but I'd like to find one of these to do next. You've got some serious skills putting this together. Do you have any idea what color, or have I missed that? Keep up the good work your doing I know I can't wait to see the end result!

Thank you for the kind words, this is my first big build so I am really trying to take my time, think things out and buy right buy once. I can tell you I am in WAY over my head but with forums and community like this one I think it will come together, eventually...

I don't have plans to paint the body at all at this point, just want to enjoy the old car the way it is. I feel like less worrying about chips and dings will provide us more enjoyment.

Looking good. Someday I want mine to be this far along.
How did you mount the rotisserie to the rear of the car? 'I have an auto twirler for when I get mine ready.

Thanks, I made my own brackets but after talking to autotwirler I found mine weren't exactly how they recommend. The fronts should have been offset and the rears straight. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...cf0834fe3a.jpg

Thanks, Brake lines are ni-copper fuel is stainless. I was fighting the ni-copper on 37* single flare.

kevin_l 01-31-2018 03:55 AM

Finally had a warm enough day to paint the center section. Assemble the axle, and got it slid under the car. I've got to say, final assembly and worrying about scratching paint feels weird.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...fb46aba3cc.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...86399686c9.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...4336bb3286.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...adbaa03882.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...1702a47291.jpg

Nova is looking good. Love that body style.

Where'd you find those black line clamps? I was just looking for something like that the other night. I was thinking i'd have to just buy the natural ones and have them anodized.

I'm not sure if you need metal clamps or not, but made4uproducts has some nice clamp options (and several colors).

Made in the US, lifetime warranty. I think they are made from nylon.

They are plastic but seem to do the job well. Actually clamp the line tight unlike the aluminum ones I bought.

I had some wall thickness variation in the nickle copper lines. Using the Eastwood flare too would cause "blowouts" I'll try to upload a pic...

The Eastwood dies don't index perfectly either. So between the wall thickness issues, the tool alignment issues and the soft material this is what the results have been. I get a perfect flare 4 out of 5 times. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...e32ef5779d.jpg

The eastwood tool isn't really setup for single flare, since then I've figured out a way to do it. On the new stainless lines I've been only doing a single 37*.

Like I said I could get 80-90% success with the double 37* flare, just when it counted, of course I would have issues.

Damn, good to know, thank you. I just received my Eastwood deburring tool. A must when flaring tube. I was going to do SS as you did for the fuel lines but after reading many threads on here changed my mind and decided to go NiCopp. I will be using the Rigid#377, 37* flaring tool.

You should be good on single flare. I think my issue was combination of tubing wall inconsistency and flare tool alignment.

Jimbo1367 02-01-2018 02:27 PM

The Rigid 37* tool is awesome. Shouldn't be any problems.

While the motor was out we went ahead and did a btr cam kit, had a set of 243s cleaned up and did the che rocker trunion upgrade. Installed a monster clutch and installed the motor and trans, hopefully for the last time.

Went to install the exhaust but I wasn't happy with the header fit up or the crossmember clearance. So I reworked the exhaust ahead of the x pipe also installed some flex joints. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...eb8a2aa6ca.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...1e39a983f9.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...d88cf7a529.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...508b0467ab.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...750efd0c1c.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...a0fd7ef90f.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...c1c0e2ff22.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...2d784fca5b.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...ada7e0fa5b.jpg

37 degree flare

I thought 37 degree flares are always only single not double?

Finished some rust repair around the back window. I am not at all happy with the blend but for a rattle can it will do for now. I got rid of the powder blue interior and painted it the same 10% gloss 2k paint as the underside. Next the inner fenders and core support will be getting the same paint treatment. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...06f52a03ff.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...77e4f474b3.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...35361ff84c.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...2428c5dab6.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...a1797d62ec.jpg

Man, looks great! I love that you're leaving the patina in tact. I'm always looking for updates on your build so keep them coming. My first car when I was 15 was a 66 Chevy II. My dad and I built it up and it was my daily driver until I was 17 when I traded it and a little cash for the 68 Camaro I have to this day (Project "Cha Ching" on here). Currently, my 12 year old is on the hunt for his 69 Camaro dream car but I'm selfishly steering him towards a 66-67 Nova! :secret: Anyway, great job and keep up the good work!

Thank You Sir, I appreciate your kind words, I'll be posting some update more frequently. There is a big cruise in at the local gm dealer coming up in September and I am forcing myself to have it road worthy. Not sure I'll make it, and it won't be 100% but I am trying like hell!
No matter what car your boy chooses you'll be making memories for lifetime, keep him in the garage and he'll grow to appreciate the time spent with Dad.

As an update to the fuel tank...I ran mine last weekend on a high grip, high g autocross course all the way down to 1/8 of a tank, no issues. Think you'll be happy with it.

Thanks so much, glad you're enjoying the build.

After some sandblasting in 95* heat I laid down some more epoxy and semi gloss single stage. Not much left to paint besides battery mount and core support. I am also planning on spraying some raptor on the under side of the fenders and possibly in the trunk. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...09fdc23399.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...ea6aa7d440.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...88461f93ab.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...59c077cd8e.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...a13e641440.jpg
