It's one of those cars at the track that just puts a good old fashion smile on your face.

My car probably would have looked like that if I had been running BFG Sport Comps out there.

Another shot of this Mustang just because.....

Here's what I've come to learn in my VERY SHORT time tracking. Some guy blows past you like you're sittin' still... and since we're all competitive -- your foot goes down - your eyes glaze over - and it's "I'm going to catch that SOB!!"

What we have to learn.... that guy might be a real veteran driver -- might have super sticky tires - might have 100 hp on ya... might have a better set up car. You have a tendency to FORGET that you're on 200 tread wear tires -- don't really have the air pressures set up right -- don't have the wheel time - and the next thing you know - you're a spinning top (if you're lucky) or going into the weeds.

After doing that a couple times --- I don't chase -- I "gauge" to see if I can run with them but within MY driving skills and limits.... If they're just running off from me -- I let 'em go.

Everybody's car is different out there... so NOTHING is even. One day I'm struggling to stay behind a f'n MIATA and I'm working hard and driving a little over my head --- and I KNOW I should catch and pass a stink'n' Miata..... then I find out it's being driven by a pro Winston Cup driver.... This dude doesn't need any power -- He knows how to roll that thing thru corners! Live and learn... Learn to just drive what you brought and how you know how to drive.

NO SH!T? That just made it better hahaha....I love that car and its just badass with or without an engine, i could even Fred Flintstone that thing around the track...

Panteracer 08-08-2014 09:03 PM

Shelby

Before I go buying any Chevy engines I will find
out who was driving Dave's car. It sometimes run in
three groups. Dave only runs in blue unless he gives
Someone a ride. He did share Joe Silvas car for a few
Years and was just bringing his car back after three years

Broken parts
Was crewing on a buddies can am car for a few years
and saw suspension parts break on several cars. Tire tech
is so much better now that they tear old race cars apart

Greg is right there is always someone faster. You need to keep
your head and learn how to drive your car. It's about having
fun and bench racing later. Things can go bad real quick. I found
Viper boy and I run together real good. One day he is faster the
next it is me. We give each other a bad time but all in good fun

That thing is a monster. I asked them what it is capable of running without traffic and they said 1:44s on race tires. That isn't fooling around!

Also, I agree with your thoughts Greg. That picture was too perfect for a snarly ass comment and i couldnt restrain myself.

It is beyond easy to get overly excited on the track and make mistakes. I'm definitely not the fastest driver out there, but I've had enough seat time and "class" time to learn how much my lap times slip when I start dive bombing corners to try and catch the guy who passed me. For us amateur Schlubs restraint is often our best friend, unfortunately it not as much fun.

I like the direction you're going with the little yellow car. The more you overbuild something, beyond the minimum, the larger window you tend to create for yourself if there is an error. That was my entire philosophy with the '06 I brought out. It's for my dad to take to open track days. It stops fast and changes directions even faster, and if you run it through the gearing properly it has some get up, not a ton compared most cars around here, but enough. His limits will be so far inside of the cars limits that if here ever gets out of shape there should be some safety margin to use up before anything happens.

No car is perfect but that's pretty dang close.

And I'm sure Gaetano passed that car several times. Just ask him about it. :computer:

Saturday all day too. Probably ran in one of the FAST groups which is why you didn't see him. :bitchslap:

You, sir, do not recall correctly. It was 1:54. In traffic. On smaller tires than he usually runs. Oh and they were 200 TW Falkens.

Anything else?

Matt@BOS 08-09-2014 10:06 AM

Dave, the real reason the detached garage is going to cost more is because it is going to have to house a Cortex Mustang of some year.

Hes 200 lbs lighter, 200 more horsepower, and probably has some serious suspension components. Not to mention Cortex is based at Sonoma Raceway Business Park. Wheel time at their front door.

I'll take my budget racer over that money pit any day.

Of course if they were Italian they wouldn't need all that extra wheel time

I'd put money on him driving a Miata and you'd still be behind.

BTW NOBODY really wants a budget anything.... Just ask Dave or Ron.

We're back at the "Cup O'excuses" raceway again ladies and gentlemen! Right behind "Jackstand 1" and "My parts didn't arrive" ... bringing up the rear is "he wouldn't let me by"... into the backstretch it's nose to nose with "he pulled off" and "I couldn't catch him"....

Vegas69 08-09-2014 03:53 PM

He's definitely not Italian... That has to be worth a few seconds all by itself. How much does an Italian ego weigh?
