Dave is privy to the inside jokes ———— the story behind the “lawnmower motor” is ——- I’d sent Sutton an email — and he responded with a diatribe about everyone and anybody who’s name he could drop - regardless of whether they had ANYTHING to do with the car.....

IF you remember any of his babble ——- he thought Kurt Urban was the greatest engine builder ever — and that Scoggins Dickey was “HIS” motor builder.... nobody could do it better....

After the debacle - in his email response — and I quote “I wouldn’t let Kurt Urban build a lawnmower engine for me”...... Now — Kurt didn’t even work at Scoggins Dickey when my Motor was built - so why he went from hero to zero even faster than a Sutton scud missile is anyones guess...... but I will have t-shirt made —— “LAWNS WILL BE MOWED” —- and I have the address for the first one to be sent out.... feel free to guess. LOL

Honestly — I don’t go to bed at night thinking about such things — when I dream — it’s all about the mechanicals.... I’d drive the POS with no body at all, for all I care. :badidea:

I hope you know I was kidding. Look at my car. Form over function for sure.

57hemicuda 02-21-2019 07:40 PM

Still remember saying to Sutton......You know who your building this car for right? You know what he's going to expect right? I don't think their was one of us that expected what you got.

Poor Blake, its so messy to wipe that secret sauce off that Big Mac, but the finish product will be worth it. Looks good Greg

I didn’t think you were or weren’t.... Didn’t find anything offensive about your comment at all!

But I’m being dead serious —- I’m really not spending any time trying to make the car something ——— SpeedTech has some good ideas and I’ll let them have their way with her.

That's going to make a great motor. My aluminum big block made 666.7 too!

Yeah!! Dave and I were talking about that when I got the numbers!

Funny - KU texted me that “Smitty bested you by 4 hp”..... at 670...... followed up with “his made 666.9 two pulls in a row but the number scared him so he said to keep working on it”..... HAHHAHAHAHAHA I kind of find some humor in the 666 number.

Flash68 02-22-2019 09:11 AM

What is the bore x stroke of this thing? Still an actual 429" ?

Well — we had to DE SUTTONIZE it —- so went with 4” stroke and a 4.125” bore for 427”

So a guy can choose — 427 FE?? 427 LS — I chose LS

LOL

GregWeld 02-22-2019 02:30 PM

Here’s the CORRECT Dyno sheet I should have posted.....

Yeah — I suppose I should have posted up that data Austin....

#RonSuttonRaceWannabeBuilder —- 2 gallons per 3 laps

#KurtUrbanSDRaceShopMowerMotors — TBD

Bets being taken now. Odds are - I keep all the bets.

raustinss 02-23-2019 09:30 PM

Funny enough I bet one "engine" builder will tell you how great it "is"
The other wont say much of s@#t and let you figure it out on you own
Weird how sometimes your work can speak for you .
Nice dyno sheet btw

randy 02-24-2019 02:16 PM

Fact Austin!!

kbclamper 02-27-2019 07:57 PM

what are the cam specs and compression on your new engine? your numbers are very close to my Mamo Motorsports ls3 based 427

GregWeld 02-28-2019 11:37 AM

SpeedTech is moving forward constantly —- no moss growing under their feet!!

Motor came back from Scoggins-Dickey and it was back in the chassis the next day - with some additional modifications to make things better. They moved the engine forward just a bit to get better clearances between it and the firewall. And made the motor plate work with the new Comp Cams front cover —- and added some more connection points to hold the motor. Suttons crew had it hanging on 4 10mm bolts holding the water pump....

Coming together and looking good.

Tt is all due to the rack location and oil pan, The way Sweet builds the racks is that when they narrow them, the pinion also moves closer to the center, we ran into this on the Extreme front end and ended up having to use a wider rack to clear the LS oil pan rail which is wider then even a big block.

It is ALWAYS the rack the dictates the placement of EVERYTHING. if you want the geometry correct.

Gotcha, didn't realize that about the racks. I thought it was moved over for weight distribution to offset the driver.

Was the MSD Airforce intake chose because of size or performance? I'm interested in different builders opinions in intake manifolds, why MSD instead of Fast or Holley or....

Because it makes 25hp and 25Tq over the others......

Easy choice

One thing he did appear to get right was the corner balancing and this should have helped I'd think?

Concentrating on one thing to the exception of all others never helps.

Did they test on this engine or is that from a different test?

Not doubting or anything, just curious! I don't have a lot of money so what I spend needs to be researched well!

No Mitch, no testing here — but if you search the ‘net — the MSD seems to be the current power maker. Lots of info about them - and tests done against others etc.

Che70velle 03-03-2019 12:45 PM

Great to see this thing coming along so well Greg. What electronics will run this engine?
