In continuing with my custom grill design, I had a few setbacks with having it 3D printed for test fitting. I was trying to save money and be cost effective by doing it out of foam at first, but that didn't work. They could never get the foam thick enough. So, I went ahead and opted for the 3D printed version. Here is the initial design. Still working on the mesh part. I'm pretty much locked in on the hex shapes. But the most important part are the dimensions and fit before sending the file to EVOD for CNC'ing. The mesh design can always be changed. Per Shaun at EVOD, the overall CNC cost will be significantly cheaper if the grill is made in two-halves and will bolt together in the center. Two billet blocks will be cheaper than one huge block to make the grill a one piece. Also, I picked up a NOS Caprice license plate holder from Ebay after Stielow posted it in his thread. I really needed this as I have the Ring Brothers battery charging ports where the fuel filler used to be. I had already been worried about how I'd charge the battery when the connections are in and the pressure from the Camaro license plate holder would be applied to them. The "flip down and stay" option of the Caprice plate frame holder was right on time.

I’m a hack but I’d run it with the plastic printed grille… :D

You might be on to something there Don. It's something I might need to reconsider.

😁 especially for what you'd pay for that billet version 😬, looks great though!

It came out great even if it's just a test fit piece. Great work, Marcus.

could they 3D print it in one piece to get rid of the odd shaped hexes in the middle of the grille? I like the details of the hexes.

Thanks for asking. Well, I'm at the stage of beginning to do the interior. So, let me go back some months to Hurricane Helene, I think it was. Whichever one tore up Florida real good towards the end of summer to the latter part of last year. I ordered the material for my convertible top and the factory that makes it is in Florida. So, that put the production of it and me receiving it several months behind. I'm using real glass in the back as an option instead of the plastic. Fast forward to today...I finally received it near the end of 2024, but Christmas and property taxes took priority. I've gotten that out of the way and now I'm just waiting on the shop to get me in to do my top and carpet. Will update with pics when something gets done.

I can’t recall right now. I have it all at home and I’m at work right now.

Thanks Marty. I didn't want all blue...blue top on a blue car. Didn't want black either. So, I went out on a limb and wanted to match the wheels. I was a bit nervous at first, hoping and praying it'll look nice and come out right.

They did a great job on that top, no wrinkles. Looks great Marcus.

WOW, That's sweet!

Did a similar thing to my 1930 Cabriolet.

The OE Ford color for the top was a Beige colored canvas material. The OE color combo is Bronson Yellow/Seal Brown/Orange striping w/dark Brown interior so nothing inside or outside of the car had Beige. The Seal Brown was re-painted Black back in the late 50's which compliments the Black running boards + fenders so when I purchased new top material, I requested Black canvas. I got a lot of questioning & pushback on the choice, but it matches the car as-is & I have ZERO intention of ever restoring/making it a museum piece.

Looking forward to more progress updates.

Thanks guys....I'm really happy with it. Finally starting to look like a car again. Next up is the German square weave carpet and hopefully get this interior knocked out.

dmc69 03-07-2025 09:13 AM

That looks awesome!!

Ketzer 03-07-2025 07:16 PM

Love the finish on the wheels! and getting the top to match is perfect, definitely different in the best possible way!

Guys, where is the best place to source a pair of Recaro's? Where are many of you getting them from? I know they're not cheap, but I want to get the best deal on a pair because of course I'll only be buying the seat for the foam and the frame. I'll be taking off the original cover to have them covered in my custom leather color I've chosen. So, I'd want the best deal on a pair. Won't need to spend the extra coin on factory leather as I won't be using it. I'd buy the cheapest vinyl/velour option. Thanks in advance for any input and recommendations.

Dale Schwartz is a dealer.
