Well got out there and did a little work this weekend (finally).
Removed the exhaust and driveshaft to get it shortened and change the trans seal. Seal looked to be good (prior to pulling) but I replaced with the metal housed seal. Wiped down the underside of the car and cleaned all the fluid off the downpipes, the removed section and the driveshaft. http://i.imgur.com/khEXwdH.jpg http://i.imgur.com/SvCe2Ju.jpg After that I moved to changing the first round of oil in the LSX427. It has about 150-200mi on it. Sending samples of fresh Joe Gibbs BR5W50 and the used oil to Blackstone Labs for testing. Had some initial concerns when I drained the catch can... http://i.imgur.com/3GHMCbh.jpg http://i.imgur.com/O4iIPGP.jpg I was assured by the catch can manufacturer (Mighty Mouse - David Childress) that the oil seen is "Normal" for what i'd be seeing. Confirmed that with other friends as well. http://i.imgur.com/WZCugqr.jpg Moved onto draining the pan and pulling the filter apart. http://i.imgur.com/mjYeoJq.jpg Oil has some "copper glitter" in it i'm told is to be expected with new builds. Been a while so have some concerns but not putting too much thought into it right now. Filter element had a little white metal in it, nothing significant. http://i.imgur.com/PqGMPSE.jpg Biggest concern I had was I have some flakes that are non-metallic and appear to be coating or maybe gasket material in the oil. Several pieces like this. http://i.imgur.com/eCd7QxK.jpg They're flexible and very thin. http://i.imgur.com/ayrXGkD.jpg I'm 99% sure it'll be fine, engine made no noises, had great oil pressure. I'm going to change the oil frequently the next few times (one more of breakin then will move to oil i plan to continue running). I'll be changing oil at ~500mi for the next several changes. May start gradually stepping it up after that. I also started installing the door glass but didn't make it far before calling it quits this weekend. Maybe more on that this week. Aside from that, Friday I went back to the shop that did my turbo kit (M2K Motorsports) to watch a friends Trans Am get some WOT tuning. I'd say he's pretty happy with his 400in LSX with a F1X procharger. Numbers are boost only, and he has nitrous standing by for future tuning/use. http://i.imgur.com/OBtCha8.jpg http://i.imgur.com/doOjpPO.png http://i.imgur.com/VxBitEK.jpg |
Hope everything is good with the engine. I hate worrying about that type of stuff. Especially an expensive build like that!!

Convenient name for that concern! Either way I think it lends itself to staying int he car and running it. Keep an eye on it and hope for the best. Pulling it now to check it out wont save anything really if that's ultimately what needs to happen.
I think it's all good. William |
1500 to the wheels ?
People are just crazy these days ! Even though its a muscle car its still a sleeper because no one expects a stock 2000 era Firebird to be packing heat like that. any link to his build ? Its normal to see some gasket/sealant material in the oil after a startup. I wouldn't worry about it (for now). |

As we have already talked about it as well, you should be fine. One more run with the break-in oil and then you should be fine to start expanding the oil change intervals.
Looking forward to getting back stateside and going for a rid in this thing and seeing Gibb's Trans-Am out on the road. |
