Ron,
I hope you get this latest issue sorted. Missed you at SOWS earlier this week but man I can relate to sorting issues. My car still isn't totally sorted yet either. A project I thought would take 6 months and instead 3.5 years... Damn hot rods. It sure was fun to drive it on the track again though! Forgot how much fun that is. |
Hey Ron, I've been through a lot on the crank case psi issue with mine. I've tried a few different catch cans and this and that, but worked best was 2 -12 lines from the valve covers to Moroso breather cans mounted behind the front tires. The Art Morrison sub has the perfect spot for them. Not sure how this would work with a dry sump set up. I bought 2 of the black plastic oil fill caps from O'reilys, tapped them with a 3/4" npt tap then plumbed it up. I was planning on ditching the cheap caps once it proved to work but have never got around to it.
Check out the second to the last page on my build for some pics. https://lateral-g.net/forums/show...ighlight=yenko |

^ look at these two intelligent human beings hanging out at a shop racing 100s of laps on a mini bike instead of working on their $100k cars in order to get out on a real track.
And then posting proof on the internet? I am truly proud to call you my friends!  |
Dumb and Dumber

WHAT!?!?!
Did YOU really just post that... the part about spending money / wasting time / and hitting a real track.... Quote:

Update time! So many killer builds going on and SEMA coming up, it's a great time of the year :BlahBlah:
Since my last adventure, I had gotten the rear main seal and the pressure side of the rack fixed. Steering felt heavy which I really prefer, and next up was a few checks to make sure my motor was breathing properly. Spoke to QMP Racing, Mike Norris and a few others. Took the valve cover oil fill cap off – no vacuum. Took the Norris can off, less than an ounce of oil in the can. Took the lines off and ran the car, no excessive vacuum or oil burp. Took the Peterson breather off, same deal. This motor is breathing as it should I think. After my last Auto-X I had also done a few other changes to the car. I felt like after all this, there’s gotta be more handling in the car or we’ve all been snookered by these high dollar PT parts! :D I had my subframe modified to get more positive caster. I also set my camber at -2* with .5* gain per inch (max two inches in compression); again thanks to David Pozzi and Matt Jones at AME. I also upped the spring rates front and rear and reset my swaybars. Lastly as I had mentioned, new Michelin Pilot Super Sports. Just an edumacated guess these changes would help! |
This past Sunday I was registered for Speedventures at the Fontana Roval. I spent Saturday doing a nut/bolt check, (over) packing what I thought I needed and dropped the car off in the Fontana garage. Since Torino man lives closer and registration opened at 7:am, I spent the night at his house. Beers, dinner and off to bed for a 6:a wake up call.
Next morning, I do the drivers meeting, refer to Ron Sutton’s shock settings, check my tire pressures and hope for the best on an untested new set up. I hop in a c6 z51 w r888s for a ride along. ‘Klaus’ the driver absolutely kills it. Ran a 2:00 lap hitting a buck sixty on the high banks. I’m thinking, NO WAY my car has this much grip. I was right too  Then it’s my turn. Two laps with Klaus riding along and he gets out and says I’ve got the line and I’m ready. First lap, I get black flagged for entering the track to early. Session over and I'm a dumbass. But the car felt f’n GREAT! Next session, after one warm up lap I get meatballed. Leaking they say. I go back to the pits and the car is bone dry. Rob was there by this time and we do a check. The only thing it could be is my fuel vent. We leave the track at lunch and burn off some fuel, come back for the third session and tell the official there’s no leak. She checks and says you’re good to go. I get staged fourth behind a fully race prepped caddy challenge car, an Audi S5 and an Infinity. One warm up lap, one hot lap and the caddy is gone but I’m right on the other two. Of course, track officials meatball me again for fuel, we pull in and sure enough there’s a puddle. This time, we pull in the pits and ponder a fix or calling it a day. The fuel vent is leaking right above my tailpipe on a 100* day, so this isn’t funny anymore. On the trailer with only two real hot laps for the day? F’that Rob says. We crawl under the car and spent an hour re-routing the vent line so it exits the tank into a 90 and then uphill. Problem solved. Final session. I’m now staged twelfth. With the problem now fixed I get my first full session. By the first lap, six cars are gone. I’m not sure if they left my group in the dust or exited the track but we never saw them agin. It’s now me and the top two in my group and a race spec Miata. I gave the Miata a point by, and he returned the favor. One lap I hit 127 on the straight. What a rush on the high banks! The Miata and one other car drops off and now it’s just me and the top guy in my group. He did not shake me off his tail so I felt pretty good. Top lap was a 2:!7 and I’m sure I left five seconds out there. Not bad for just one full session (six laps?) plus two hot laps earlier in the day. I’d say the car got it’s mojo back and the wingnut driver is not far behind. That is a good report on progress with the car. Glad you were able to get a full session in on such a hot day. After reading the entire thread on the car and the challenges you've worked through you definitely have to be feeling pretty good now. So way to go.

Good!! Now, sign up for Thunderhill so I can give you a good Klausing!
Seriously though --- this is good to hear that she's finally all coming together. If you were hauling Rob around --- that's costing you 17 seconds easily. |

From these photos, the car looks like it was tight/pushy in the middle of the tighter turns ... and therefore probably loose on the exits of those same turns. Correct ? |

I have some blurry pics I'll email you that shows the contact patch better. Thanks RS! Oh and I need better brake pads Ron. |
Glad you took it out and played with her
|
Good deal Ron. Sounds like you had a good time out there. Any video? Those were nice camera shots.
|
Glad your getting to enjoy it Ron.looks great on the track:king:

Nice going Ron!!!
I thought you would be running a IÍ much vent canister? Good for Robs tenacity to giter dun |

:twak: Hey what's an extra 215 lbs. You meant to say if he wasn't hauling me aroung he would have missed the entire last session and not had any speed info to post:D Quote:
Seat time buddy, seat time. Quote:
He had Harry's lap timer on his phone but didn't try and fire it up till the last session. Last minuet and he gives up on it and say F it, so I said hand me the phone. BTW he did get some lap times and speeds off Harry's. Your welcome Bad Ron. That stupid fuel vent cost him two sessions of practice so the last session was his only opportunity to start to learn the track and explore the capabilities of his car. It also meant I had to get my hands dirty and spill gas on me while I crawled under the dam thing. :shakehead: Add to that he was gridded at the back of the entire group and the first couple laps he had the "Meatball" stress factor weighing on him. So in fairness. Ron actually was pretty composed in his $$$$$ baby on a big track with an untested setup. Was he a spaz in between, of course,:willy: but when it was go time he drove really well. Smooth on the brakes and turn in and throttle. Concentrated on his lines and was pretty dam consistent at executing them while creeping up on the speed. I'd give Bad Ron an A- for the day. He showed a good combination of Balls, common sense and some skill. Unlike the d:censored: e who took his new dialed from the factory 911 scalpel home on a flatbed with two smashed wheel multiple smashed body panels and who knows what else; Ron ran some composed respectable laps, learned the basic lines of the track and got a sense of what his car is doing out there. It was a great time buddy, glad I got to tag along.   |
Nice review Rob!! In fairness to Ron I did the same at my first event in regards to the camera and such. At least you were around to help him through.
|
Shame about the start of the day, but great to see it ended great, really please to see you out there having fun Ron:thumbsup:
The car looks killer. |

But yeah my 2 wheel fast days are pretty much behind me. :shakehead: It was cool seeing your car in a corner I was familiar with though. Glad you got some shakedown time in, hopefully Streets will involve more tire wear and fuel consumption..........through the engine anyway. :D |
Just a note about the motorcycle pic and the pic of BR's Camaro.... One of them is much nearer the apex/corner marks than the other. Which makes a huge difference on the exit... Can you tell which one?!?!? LOL
I think he was doing a very good job all things considered. |
Rob tried to use his phone again for something other than talking. And look what happened. :smiley_smack:

Wooooo hooooo. Good for you Ron. Great to see you out there putting some laps on her. All the hard work is paying off.
|
Awesome Ron. Been there many times.....do a couple laps then bring her back in for something.
Keep up the good work. See you out there soon  |
Way to go RON!
|
Nice to see you at flogging it around! Looks killer!

The car's attitude looks pretty good for a first-timer. |
Who here hasn't drained the battery on their camera before getting any useable video of a big day? :bang:
That will come in due time, best to worry about the things that really matter first and get those jitters out of the way. Congrats on getting her out on the track and getting some laps in Ron, it only gets better from here on. |
