The characteristic of the carbon brakes are a lot differernt from the iron rotor system. As the carbon brakes get hotter they gain output to a point. Once iron rotors get warm there output goes down as they get hotter. The ABS calibration is unique for the ZR-1 with carbon brakes and the controller is made by Bosch. I used a Delphi controller on Red Devil and could not sort out the Bosch system yet. My system was optimized around the iron rotors of the stock Z06 system. I'm working on sorting out the carbon brakes better. They work great on Jackass and on Polly's car at the OUSCI. It just takes a slighly different technique (talent) to drive them with out ABS.

Mark,
Hey I stopped by your car a couple times over the weekend at the Detroit Autorama but never caught up with you. I did buy a copy of your book...very cool!
Hopefully I will see you at some Goodguys shows over the year with my "Project Nasty" 69 Mustang.

Thanx Mark!! I'll be watching for updates. I would love to use ABS with my ZR-1 brake setup...

Pumped to watch the coverage on SPEED tonight of the Optima Ultimate Street Car Invitational, the Red Witch is just a fantastic build from so many standpoints. Ever since I've started reading about Stielow's latest build in magazines and now in this thread, I've been curious as to where the track tow hook was sourced. I've searched the web and found few instances of 1st gen Camaros with tow hooks installed, and it appears to be a custom set up. I want to put one on my 68 and unfortunately, as with the rest of my build so far l rely on seeing what other's have done that I like. Essentially I'd like to copy cat a tow hook set-up, but so far this is the best example I've seen of one on a 1st gen. Anyone have any thoughts on the matter?
Once again, great build! Once I found this thread I was online for hours going through every page of it!

I just stubbled on your thread, I love what you have done to the camaro. Absolutley awesome, You beat me to the punch of putting an abs system in a 1st gen, I had been working on the details of the swap. Awesome job!

Gear Ratio

Mark,

Congrats on your accolades at SEMA and the Optima challenge. Followed your builds over the years, and thought you had reached the pinnacle with the Mule. Going to be tough to top this one!

Read that you have 3.25 gears out back. I'm curious as to your thought process on arriving at that number. Do you have some different gears in the T56? I'm finishing up a similar 69 with an LS7/T56. Currently have 4.10s and finding 1st gear is worthless, but with a 3.25 my top two gears would be really steep. How does it work with your setup?

Thanks,
Bill

Mr. Stielow, Where do we buy your book I see people talking about? Does is detail your ABS system work? And does it go over your computer choices for the ECM's and if or what you did with the LAN systems for the LS7/LS9?

Thanks
-Russell

You can order the book at http://sdparts.com/ but it does not detail the ABS. Mark isn't going to risk someone getting hurt relying on info he gives out. If he gets it all sorted out to where it is bulletproof I'm sure he will let everyone know how to do it.
