Dang Todd, new shoes and a cut-n-buff; she's gunna be real purdy. Just in time to get some rock chips at Buttonwillow too!

How many miles did you have on the engine when you checked the spring preasures? You've got me wondering about my engine now, granted its not as high-strung as yours. :_paranoid

Vegas69 06-27-2012 12:01 PM

It only has 3500-4000. Remember, I'm turning it close to 7k and that takes some higher valve spring rates on a big block. Sitting is hard on them as well. I'd still check them if I was you. You may not have a spec but you could see if you have some week springs. I'd let you borrow mine.

Thanks for the posting on your thread about the lifters. I looked into the no needle rollers and swapped them on the advice of Crower prior to installing the ones I had so it only cost me the difference.:D

Now maybe a belt drive to isolate your springs from engine harmonics would be a good idea. I know they are expensive but they have some advantages, one being the isolation piece one being the adjustability and then there is the trueness of timing and ease of maintenance.

The new shoes looks sweet

Guys, it's been one hell of a fun ride building Payback. I've made some great friends, learned some lessons, and had some lifetime experiences. I hate to see her go but it's time to move on and apply my knowledge and skills to a new build. Payback is ready for a new home and adventure.

At this time, I have some ideas floating around my head but nothing is set in stone. I'm going to take a little breather and really formulate a plan for my next hot rod.

I can promise you one thing, it will be interesting and really FAST.:D

Looking forward to the next chapter. It's sure to be even more fun than Payback was.

Todd,

Good luck with your next project. I am looking forward to watching the build of your new car and which direction you go with it.

Brian

FETorino 07-25-2012 09:23 PM

Payback is impressive.:hail: Whatever you have in mind it must be pretty special to one up your current ride. I guess I missed my opportunity for a BB Ford vs Chevy shootout by a year:D

GLWS somebody is going to get their moneys worth. Your price covers the tuning that's about it.

Wow, wow wow! I had heard a rumor and now it's true. As some may say "All good things must come to an end"

I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

Good luck with finding her a new home, she has been good to you.

chr2002ca 07-26-2012 06:44 AM

Wow. I had also heard some rumors and kinda thought you might be preparing it for sale. Damn, really sad to see you sell her, but I know you have that competitive spirit and racing bug in you and will most likely build something new that even Satan would be proud of. I look forward to your next build and catching up with you in person again soon.

DOOM 07-26-2012 06:49 AM

$110.000 .00 is a absolute steal for that car thats all I gotta say!!!

I think Chris may have stumbled on your next project's name - 'Satan's Pride'

Vegas69 07-26-2012 08:19 AM

Thanks for all the kind words. The best part of this project has been the people by a landslide. The car just opens that door. For all the guys asses that I've kicked, you better hope the new owner isn't a ringer. :D Whether it's a garage or show queen, or is used to it's full potential, I'm fine with it. I just hope the new owner enjoys it as much as Kelli and I have.

I'm going to close this chapter before I worry about looking for a new project.

Cris@JCG 07-26-2012 08:56 AM

Good luck with the new project! Looking forward to what you build next... I am sure it will have a LS motor! :D

fleet 07-26-2012 09:33 AM

For your next project, I vote for a Vette.

Formula43 Wheel 07-26-2012 09:41 AM

Todd,
I'm sure parting with Payback won't be easy. I've said it before and will say it again, you have built one of ther cleanest first gen cars out there. I appreciate your support of Formula 43 wheels with one of her last updates. She has brought a lot of attention our way! Some one out there is gonna be blessed to call her their own. Like everyone else I am looking forward to what you have coming together next.

Much respect to you Todd!

Best of Show Coachworks is doing there magic on the car. They are taking care of a few things that I just flat never got around to. As when you sell a house, you make it so nice you wonder why your're selling it. I feel inspectors will be pleasantly surprised.

Yah, and keep on wondering about that, extensively!

Okay, I'll do this just once: Don't do it man! Don't watch somebody drive off in her! Don't be that Papa John's guy who goes searching for her 20 years from now and pays 5 times the actual value just to get her back!

(Sorry, trying to selfishly keep my ZL1 brotha around. I got that out of my system and won't do it again.)

She's lookin' sharp in that photo. You could drive in reverse and still have larger back tires than me. LOL. Some lucky bastard is going to be very lucky to own her.

waynieZ 07-27-2012 08:11 AM

Wow now I'm really sorry I missed you at BOS last Friday. I enjoyed watching you build Payback, and getting quite a few pointers along the way. I'll be watching for what ever you build next.
I just hope we don't have to wait too long!
Best of luck with the sale.

I spent 6 months convincing myself to sell the car. A big part of that was being at peace with the decision. I know there will be times where I'll regret it regardless. Just watching the videos I posted tonight got me all excited. Somehow they look way faster now that I'm selling it. As I said in my sale thread, this is the first object that I've really had sentimental value associated with. It's the blood, sweat, and experiences. No regrets and I'm looking forward. I'm talking to a couple interested buyers now. I'll find the right buyer soon. It sure would be interesting to compete with my creation down the road with a new project. I suppose it would be similar to seeing your ex old lady with some other guy.

Greg from Aus 07-28-2012 12:21 AM

Good luck Todd, that is an amazingly tight car.

I listed the car on Ebay this morning. If you don't want to take any chances, there is a buy it now.

Todd, Hate to see you let go of Payback, but I can't wait to see what you build next! The mods that you have done over the years have inspired me and made me think more about the mods I do to my Camaro. Good luck with the sell, as somebody is getting one heck of a ride!

tones2SS 08-01-2012 05:50 PM

Todd, good luck with the sale. That is a really nice car and a beast on the track. Sounds and looks killer. Can't wait to see the new project.

The car will be at the Cruisin Grand car show in Escondido this Friday from 5-9 PM for inspections.

Don't let them park it under one of the trees that lines the streets there. You'll end up with hundreds of tiny sap droplets all over your ride. No fun getting those off. Trust me on that one. :). Good luck with your showing.

Vegas69 08-01-2012 08:26 PM

BOS is sponsoring the show so I have a feeling it will be in an alright spot. :unibrow: Thanks man.

I hear Wayne, I'm 20 minutes away and my wife had to go on and make plans for some Freakin dinner and a play I have to go to 90 minutes away :( If not I'd be there offering moral support. Good luck with the sale Tod. I've enjoyed very much your build thread. Looking forward to your next project.

Payback won an award on Friday night too. I had to forgo drinking a cold one to accept the award and talk your car up. Since Dick was the sponsor giving out the awards, he couldn't really hand it to himself. Oh let me clarify that Dick didn't select Payback for the award (not that it isn't deserving, but the sponsors should be handing out awards to cars they brought down). However, the event coordinator wouldn't let the car leave without winning something though!

Oh and on our way back we ran into a new black on black ZL1 Camaro. I think your car emasculated the poor driver

It sounds like she's going out on the right foot. Always a dominator on the street and track. I'll never forget pulling up to a stop light next to a Dodge Challenger and he was show boating before he got to the light. The Wife looks over/looks back to her Husband and then must of nearly suffered whiplash looking back over. I gave it a rev, left them in the dust when the light turned green and they took the first turn. He probably needed some Viagra that night.

Matt, I appreciate you and the guys at BOS taking her down there and winning an award is awesome.

Don't mention it. I'm sure Dick was equally happy that you didn't mind having your car down there. It was a tough job, and a bit of a burden having to drive that car own there and back, but someone had to do it. :D I totally wished she was mine when the new ZL1 pulled up at the stop beside me, it would have been nice to do a little more than show off the ZL1's bark. However, just the idle made the new car's owner afraid to get on it until he turned to get on the freeway. Whoever winds up with this car is getting a great deal. Drives and rides amazingly well on the street!

Matt
