I don't even want to think about that part of it.

I do honestly have to chuckle though at some of the emails I get asking what something like this "costs". It's beyond ridiculous - really! It is! But then - like Mario and I were texting about today - once you add it up - it doesn't seem to be that "crazy". I don't care what car you're building - it's going to be 100K in PARTS… you have to buy a car to start with… motor - trans - suspension - tires - brakes - wheels - wiring - A/C - radiator - headers - exhaust system…. Now you have labor…. and that's the factor for most -- if they are capable of building it themselves then you can save 1500 man hours of labor… but PAINT and UPHOLSTERY are going to run 50 to 75 grand if you want top notch products and quality. Paint in my book is bodywork - gaps - flatness - spray out - cut and buffed. So even if you build these cars by yourself -- you're going to be 150K in parts and paint and interior. Add the labor -- and it's not a cheapie deal.

What's it worth when you're finished? Less than half? :>)

Looks great, Greg. The engine looks good from the one picture you posted too. No reason to keep the hood down on it all the time. When were you planning to give it to your wife? Christmas was it?

What a cool car, Greg. Everything about it is spot on. I like the 3/4 rear driver shot..As good as it looks with the top down, it looks just as or better with the top up!

She'll get her first look at it on her birthday at the L A Roadsters Show June 15th in LA (Pomona Fairplex).

Actually I can't decide if I want to get to San Francisco somehow and show up at Brizio's just before a big group of them head out to DRIVE down to the show ---- OR ---- just have him place the car somewhere (the Pres of the club is involved and will as he said "put the car on top of a building if that's what you want to do") with a big bow on it (like I did her R8) and give it to her then. Either way - we'd drive back home via California highway 1 and make a nice trip out of it.

I actually like it better with the top UP…. the top has that "chopped" look to it which I've always liked in a coupe.

You're going about this all wrong Lenie!

You must do like she does when she returns from Nordstrom with a truckload of clothes… You show her everything and discuss how much you SAVED by building it all yourself!! Never mention that 50% off of $1,000 is still $500 bucks! Only point out the discount percentage, thus, how much you saved! Then she'll think you're brilliant!

GregWeld 12-08-2013 07:42 AM

Despite what Rob says about his disdain for LS motors --- I'm actually happy with the Billet Specialties valve covers = which hide the coils and help to make the motor look a bit more like a SBC….. Well --- until the intake gets put back on it anyway. LOL

The intakes on these are just so friggin fugly. But I'm not willing to mess with the factory drivability just for the sake of "looks".
