Yeah I want one of those MPI's or webbers, BUT not convinced they are easy to tune and to keep them set up properly.
No doubt, they make the engine look like a work of art. |

482" 427 with CNC'd Edel Heads etc I may inquire. I do like my Tunnel Wedge with QFT Carbs but that looks awesome! |
Here you go;
Although according to Barry the owner had some control box issues and has replaced the electronics once. Still badass looking More MPEFI http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/fe-t...dyno-week.html Webbers; This is NOT on the above engine, however is an indication of the carnage that can happen with the instant throttle response of a webber-ized engine; http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/fe-t...-broken-4.html . . . |
Okay, I have come up with an idea.
Maybe some of the fabricators can chime in. Whether it was the two glasses of wine before I went to bed, or something hit me on the head, I don't know, but anyway here it is; I don't know if it is do-able, but am proceeding with the idea anyway, and we'll see what happens. I have a 13 year old nephew who has Muscular Dystrophy. I had thought - Wouldn't it be cool if he could ride around the race track with me in my car? Okay so what would I need to make that possible? Unfortunately MD makes the muscles weaker and weaker, year by year, so he is in a state now, where his arms and neck muscles are getting pretty weak also. So using a wheelchair, such as this as a model; http://www.mobilityaids.in/images/pr...wheelchair.jpg What I think I could do, is construct a complete chair, that would bolt in, in-place of the existing passenger seat, with the appropriate body supports. It would definitely need a horseshoe type cushion, around the head, to support the head position, and then a tether to the helmet, to prevent too much fore and aft movement. I'm thinking of a cushioned version of a merge between the nascar type seat and the wheelchair show above. Simply using the existing mustang seat bolt pattern as a mount. I think this is doable. Now this is not a go, just yet. First I am not a seat fabricator, so I might need some design help, and then find a local fabricator who will do this. Second I have to get his (divorced - strained relationship) parent's approval - I decided I am not going to let any ex spousal animosity bother me Third, my nephew would have to want to do this - But I want it to be a surprise. I think he would like this ;) Fourth Doctor or physiotherpist approval (I am not planning any high G turns) The hopefully get the engine together, and get the seat constructed, and get track approval etc. Yeah a ride on the street would be nice too, but I think a careful roar around the track would be that much more fun, for him. So what do you guys think, before I embark on this mission? |
Sounds like a worthwhile endevour. What about a full containment road race seat, hans devices and 5 point harness.

Ripped that is awesome that you want to do this for your nephew. Sounds like your a great uncle.
I did a little research trying to see if there was anything out there. I couldn't find anything. But i did find a great article that may help you a little Life in the Fast Lane http://alsn.mda.org/article/life-fast-lane Seating Goals http://www.mdas.org.sg/index.php?opt...id=7&Itemid=25 I'll make you a deal if you start this project i will be happy to donate a few hundred dollars to help you get it started. I will try to talk with one of my chassis fab guy that build track cars & drag cars and see if he has any advise. |

And wow I'm flabbergasted, Marty. I am going to check around and see if anyone local does this kind of fabrication too. I'm going to talk to his dad, this week, and see what he says. I know that he has a surgery scheduled to relieve some muscle issues, in his legs, pretty soon. Once I have the approval and timing, from that point I can sort of get things rolling along. These were a couple pics I found, from this summer http://sunpeaksnews.com/wp-content/u...wn-140x140.jpg http://www.kamloopsnews.ca/apps/pbcs...ef=AR&maxw=288 It's going to be a challenge to try and keep this as a surprise. I guess I am thinking back to when I was very young, and got a ride in my late uncle's red Super Bee, with the Hurst shifter. It was so cool! I hope that he might find it just as much fun. |
I talked to my chassis guy and he said it wouldn't be hard all you need is the right stuff. Correct Helmet with clips to help with movement. Same thing on arms (if needed).
The other suggestion is to make the back adjustable so as he grows you can adjust it up to fit him. Keep us posted on the car and te seat project. Quote:
