This car is probably one of my favourite builds because you spent so much time working around an already built car and making it look like you were never there. Excellent job.

I also like the videos. They give a bit of a different angle to the story.

Thank you! It was a tricky one to do, performing surgery without butchering up the patient! This will be airing on our TV show shortly. You can definitely fit more "stuff" in a video than just pics.

BTW, this car has returned to the shop for another "upgrade"... heh heh heh...

gofastwclass 10-02-2017 08:50 PM

I'm curious to see what upgrade is in store. You guys have almost worked yourselves out of upgrades (in a good way) on this one unless the owner got bitten by the LSx bug.

Just read start to finish --- Nice job Kevin!

Hope the proper upgrade is to an LS or LT4.....

With a creative car owner, can you ever really run out of cool stuff to do? We're fortunate to have this opportunity.

Chicken Dinner Mr. Weld... LT4 on the way! Thanks for the kind words!

Fantastic! I'm sure the owner will have fun with that.

I consider the LTx series of engines to still be the LSx family of swapping. I know they are vastly different and I understand the differences, but it's hard for me to say LT1 and not think of the 1970's engines.

Why the switch, was the big block too finicky?

Yeah, the LT1 in particular has an identity crisis... there are 3 of those!

There were a bunch of considerations for the swap, which we'll cover in detail in this thread as we make updates. The short version is that although the 540 makes great power, it's truly a race engine built for 1/4 mile bursts, not casual weekend cruises interrupted by bursts. Plus, this particular one has been battling a couple high-strung engine issues like an oil leak at the filter adapter, exhaust leak inside the header cone, etc., and the fix costs will be spent bringing him right back to the high-strung BBC. The supercharged LT4 makes tons of power and likes daily driving. Throw in underhood appeal and some other thoughts and it makes sense. More to come on this one!

Lt4 Sweet!

gofastwclass 10-04-2017 09:30 PM

Kevin, you just mentioned all the reasons I like factory or factory based engine packages.

This phase of the project is complete, but wait, there's more! We've started a new chapter on this Camaro upgrading the Big Block Chevy V8 to a supercharged Chevrolet LT4 V8!
