What amazes me most about your car is how you have taken 10lbs of "stuff", put it in a 5 lb bag and still make it look incredibly clean. I am sure looking up from down below is a maze, but from top down, you have pulled off a miracle.

You are going to have to publish your own 3 Volume Service Manual for that thing!!

that's a very good analogy Bruce; now with the intercooler and intake plumbing it's more like 15 pounds in a five pound sack........... :faint:

Don't forget about the radiator hoses! ;) Your IC has one in and one out right? That should be a little easier than 2 in & 2 out like you had planned for the Camaro.

Are the A/C lines already fabbed up?

Keep up the pace, you'll make it!

clill 04-20-2008 05:38 PM

Jody...We are running short on time. You need to round up the usual suspects and have them help fab that 10lbs of stuff.:willy:

camcojb 04-20-2008 06:13 PM

well, I started on the intercooler, air inlet, and radiator tubing today. Fabbed up the inlet first. Everything is just tacked as I have a guy who can copy my tacked together pieces and make it a one piece tube.

Then started the intercooler to throttle body. Very tight to get past the air inlet, turbo to intercooler hose, and lower radiator hose, but it clears.

Very nice Jody. That intercooler tubing looks like a tight fit, but its looking great. The Malibu keeps looking better and better. Keep up the good work

camcojb 04-20-2008 11:06 PM

finished the intercooler to throttle body tubing (made it 2 piece as you cannot remove it as one piece), both radiator hoses, and the air inlets for both turbos. All that's left is the (2) turbo to intercooler lines, merging into one inlet; this will be the hardest part, so I saved it for last.............

Once finished I'll take all the individual lines I made and have them copied in stainless or steel as one-piece units, so no weld lines.

thanks Tom. I've said it before, but detailing and neatness doesn't cost anything, just a bit of time and some forethought. Anybody can do it.

Steve, I get creative with the camera angles, believe me! The shop is blown up for the most part, but there's just no way to keep it perfect when you're building a car.

Absolutely Killer Jody!! You got alot done this past weekend. Let me say this guys...Pics don't do it justice, I was there last weekend. Looks even better in person. Very well packaged!! As said..Attention to detail is second to none

I ordered some Ring Brothers 1/4", 5/16", and 3/8" bolts/washers for the front sheetmetal stuff in the engine compartment, along with the hood hinges and latches. These look incredible..............

They're only $7.40 each, which is cheap considering the machining involved, and the fact that you only need 15-20 for the average car.

I liked the button head stainless bolts and washers I had on there.

http://www.camcojb.com/temp/malitude 518.jpg

then I got these................

Thanks to the Ring Brothers for developing parts like these on cars like Reactor, and then letting us buy them!

TONS OF ROOM!!!!!!!!!!! :wow: Well, at least 1/2" between the tubes, so for that I am grateful.

This is the passenger turbo outlet tube squeezing around the intercooler and radiator tubes, heading for the drivers side and intercooler inlet.

Nice hardware! The plumbing is coming together nicely! Do you have a shot of how Mark had it plumbed last time...was it as tight of a fit? If not, what changed with this install?

Keep up the good work!!!

here's the previous engine. The turbos are much higher and further back in the compartment, which gives a ton more room.

He hasn't seen it in person, but may have seen some pics here. I talked to him about the changes I was going to make, and he was all for it. He'll see it in June as long as I make it.

camcojb 04-21-2008 08:56 PM

not as much sleep as I'd like, and I'm self-employed, so I'm able to spend a zillion hours on this deal fortunately.

Thanks for the comparison pics! Yeah, it did have more room for plumbing last time!

Hey Jody,

Are you sleeping or what, nothing new on the car in two days?

have you fallen an can't get to the computr?????

camcojb 04-24-2008 02:07 PM

I finished the fabbing of all the intercooler, air inlet, and radiator hard lines. I'll post some pics up when the final welding is done. Otherwise, progress isn't on stuff that would draw much interest as far as pics.

PICS!

camcojb 04-24-2008 06:59 PM

OK, just picked up the piping after it was finish welded by a friend of mine, Warren at Midnight Performance in Rancho Cordova. I do all my dynoing at his shop. I originally built these pieces with the intention of having them copied in single pieces, but the compound angle and short distances between bends wouldn't allow most of them to be done as a single piece. That meant welding up what I had; since I can't operate my tig worth a darn I opted to let him weld them up for me.

The hardest piece was the crossover tube from the passenger side, merging with the drivers side into the intercooler inlet. I bought a merge collector and fitted the pieces up. Lots of cutting and really special angles..............

http://www.camcojb.com/temp/malitude 542.jpg

Here's the rest of the tubing. I'm going to final fit everything tonight and weld bracing brackets to a couple of the tubes that need it. Tomorrow they're off to the powdercoaters for titanium exhaust coating.

Frankly, everything about this car is interesting. Pics of pretty much any of it are always welcomed, as you are taking a sweet car and turning it into something amazing. For such things, we like to see as much of the work as possible!

Lookin' good!

Shiny Side Up!

awr68 04-25-2008 09:44 PM

Sweet! That's a big hurdle behind you!! What's next?

camcojb 04-26-2008 08:24 PM

next, I sent the intake plumbing to be coated with titanium header coating. The color matches well with the car, but it sure scratches and scuffs easily. Might have to re-think that one later on. Big thanks to Steed at Perfect It powder coating in Rancho Cordova for helping me out, getting this back to me in one day.

had my headlight frames powdercoated. Changed the halogen bulbs for true HID's, with HID low and high beam on the one bulb. I don't think I'll even plug in the normal inside high beam as it won't match and the two outside lights will be plenty.

a quick pic of the air inlet tube. Has a little bracket that supports the end, from that small button-head allen screw just above the pipe. Filters are on order. Basically copied what Mark had in the car, seemed to work well.
