Wow Rich. You car looks killer. Very, very nice.

WOW WOW WOW, IM A BELIEVER. All I can say is LS power is awesome, truly big block power in a smaller light weight package and responsive is an understatement. Four days ago I installed 500 lb springs in the chassis to get the ride height where I wanted it and perhaps make the car a little more sporty in the corners. It worked out well and dont think I went to heavy since the ride is very nice. What an end to a week, I hired master tuner Ed Hutchings(edcmat-l1) to tune my LS7. Super nice guy, spent a couple days with him at my house, we fought off the rain and he did what he does best tune the engine/car. He just flat out knows what he's doing and knows what the engine needs. When I say master tuner Im not kidding, after tuning hundreds of cars his experiance and knowledge base of all the different software packages and the hardware is extensive. His stories of his tuning trips to China, Germany, and Austria are incredable. Ed, I can't thankyou enough, I learned a bunch of things that I didn't know, and it was a pleasure having you. Ed lives in the Virginia Beach area so if you guys are looking for a tune, I highly recomend you look him up.

I still cant believe how the car handles, the DSE sub and Quad link are a killer combo. Im on overload, got a few little thing to sort out but overall the car is awesome!

No problem, its a stock gm color, Torch red, PPG deltron 2000 brand code 4230, also none as redline red.

Thanks again Rich

Hey Todd, I wanted to let you know the Liberty prepped 600 is awesome, its getting smoother with every shift, only 20 miles on it. Its got a 5.0 shifter that they set up as well and the throws are so short. Its a world of difference from the stock 600 in my 67.

BTW we signed a bunch of papers today and made an offer, they did get the short sale approval from there banks. It will get interesting this week, thanks again :unibrow:

ModernMuseum- Thankyou, Dont mind at all, the intake tubing is from spectre performance you can purchase through summit or jegs. One 90deg 4 inch OD alluminum tubing with a 7 inch leg- part number 97990 and one 22 deg 4 inch OD alluminum tubing with a 6 inch leg- part number 97290

The filter is K&N part number RE-0870
And an AEM dry flow pre-filter part number- 1-4001

The MAF housing and sensor is a Powermax- powerMAF 100 its basically a stock ls7 hitachi sensor with there custom housing.

I used spectre's couplers. Hope this helps- Rich

Rich-

That Spectre coupler that you are using to connect the two intake tubes together with....how long is that by chance? I looked on summit and the longest one I could find is 3", but it looks like the one you have there is around 6". Thanks.

67ragtp 07-19-2011 09:46 AM

It may be hard to see from the other photo's, What your looking at is the PowerMaf plastic housing in between two silcone couplers. Both couplers are two inches wide. I dont have part numbers for them and they are not spectre. Some brand that was supplied with the MAF housing. The coupler up at the throttlebody is also a two inch made by spectre. Heres a closer look-Hope this helps- Rich

Thanks Rich. What is the primary function of this little plastic housing piece? Is it to extend the length of the tube and ultimately locate the filter further inside the fender? It looks like it's the same OD as the other (metal) tubes.

67ragtp 07-19-2011 01:39 PM

Its function is to house the Mass Air flow sensor. If you look towards the background of the pic you will see the MAF sensor protruding out. It is approx. 4 inches in length, many are made in Alluminum, mine is manufactured by PowerMAF made of some kind of plastic. It does extend the overall length of the intake system by 4 inches. The slot style Ls7 MAF sensor does include Intake air temp sensor as well, funny thing is I spent time trying to locate the sensor in the correct spot to avoid air turbulence problems and we ended up tuning the engine in a speed density mode which doesn't even use the darn MAF.
Hope this helps.

Matt@BOS 07-19-2011 02:02 PM

Rich, how much did you say you had to space out the front wheels after putting the Wilwood W6 calipers on? I had a similar issue and was able to grind a bit off the edge as to keep the caliper from hitting the hidden hardware.

Matt

67ragtp 07-19-2011 02:32 PM

I ended up with a .250 spacer and have about 2mm(.080) clearance overall. I think I would have had to grind a bit off the counter bore boss that holds one of the big caliper cap screws. Its tight in there, I have a 3 inch outer with a 7 inch inner with the dse recommended back space. For some reason I cant seem to bring myself to start grinding on the calipers. It looks like my interference issues are with the blind cap bolts as well. I hate the fact that I have negitive 2.2 degrees of camber in this thing just to clear the fender. I would love to move the tires in. I spoke with Scott at forgline and we discussed going to a 2.5 outer and a 7.5 inner that wouuld move the tire in 1/2 inch but I would still have to use the spacer to clear the caliper. Question is do I have the room at full lock back and forth. The 10 inch deal is a tight fit, throw in the huge calipers and its a mess. I will tell you these calipers kick azz, damn thing detaches the retna's from your eye balls.

What size are your hoops?

I'm *only* running an 18x9 with a 275. However, the car is sitting so low with the half-height bushings, and springs, (which seem to keep settling a little after track days), that I had the wheels re-hooped half an inch wider on the outside, so that the wheels wouldn't scrape the control arms at close to full lock. Other than the rim width, we're running a nearly identical setup, so I'm thinking a little bit of grinding might solve the problem - if you can bring yourself to do it. Of course, having the fronts re-hooped and/or stepping down to a 9.5" would be the right way of doing things. I don't think you'd be sacrificing any significant performance. With DSE's rear bar, the car is fairly neutral in the corners.

Matt

Vegas69 07-19-2011 05:56 PM

A thicker hat that moved the wheel spokes away from the caliper would be the best option. Then you could adust your shell where it needs to be.

Its funny that you mention the springs settling, the 450# springs delivered with the frame settled just sitting in my garage to a point where I just got disgusted. Not even test driving the car yet I popped the lower ball joint and installed the 500# hyperco's, they seem to be holding the ride height although I have not done any real spirited driving yet. I truly wish that I went with a 9 or 9.5 rim, these forgeline's have not been with out a lot of issues, my wheels have been back there twice for major leak down issues. I thought if I just reduced the outer hoop to 2.5 making the rim a 9.5 it would help but it wont. The tire will not really move in much according to scott. I need to leave the center where it is and move the whole wheel in a 1/2 inch.
Todds recommendation is good to get rid of the spacer but it doesnt move the tire inward. Im certainly not worried about a performance loss this thing will out perform me any day of the week, the recommendation I took on this wheel size is just wrong especially with the brake package. Live and learn, Im just not sure if I want to cut my losses with forgeline or buy new wheels, probably still cheaper to have all new hoops made. A smaller caliper moves the wheel in a 1/4 inch, might have to get that grinder out.

Thankyou Stuart. Your car, Scott's car and Charlie's jackass were a huge inspiration to me before and during the build of the car.

Vegas69 07-19-2011 07:28 PM

If you increase the hat thickness to clear the caliper you can move the hoop/tire where it needs to be.

I totally agree, I just have to come to terms with purchasing all new hoops.

I might just have new centers made with the additional .250 built on to the back side of the wheel mounting pad then adjust the hoops accordingly

Im running a 14.25" rotor, I wonder if a 14 inch smaller diameter rotor would move the caliper down a bit and maybe clear.

Vegas69 07-19-2011 07:54 PM

Rich, I made the mistake of letting Scott shave a little off the hat to give me a little more wheel lip. I ended up having nut to caliper clearance issues with 14" rotors and didn't want the 1/4 spacer for obvious reason so I went to a 13" rotor as it was the cheaper alternative. If I ever replace the wheels, I'll likely put the 14" rotors back on since they don't have many miles on them and my 13's are getting used...:D

Man, I searched all over the internet last night for PowerMAF and couldn't find anything. Turns out it is spelled PowrMAF

http://www.powrmax.com/PowrMAF%20100.html

I think I'm just going to weld a MAF bung to a 4" piece of aluminum pipe and save some cash though.

Gandalf 08-03-2011 01:10 PM

Spectre sells a 4" aluminum tube (about 6" long) with the bung welded on for a blade-style. It's about $30. I'd give you a direct link but their web site is absolutely lame. Go here: http://www.spectreperformance.com. Look in their catalog under "Modular Air Intakes", "Mass Air Flow Sensor Solutions" and "4" Polished Aluminum MAF tube".

Sorry about the mis- spelling, Im a gramatic(not sure if thats a word) nightmare. GM performance parts sells a 4 inch MAF aluminum housing also.

67ragtp 08-05-2011 02:51 PM

Made a bit of progress sorting this car out. Had to re-shim the hydraulic throw out bearing since it was barely disengaging and grabing right off the floor. Had to pull the trans to do it, no fun there. So while the exhaust was out, I got rid of the big rubber bands that magnaflow delivers to hang the mufflers. Replaced them with some nice stainlessworks hangers and those blue isolator thingy's. Amazing how much more secure the system is now. The clutch grabs closer to the middle of the pedal travel too, feels much nicer. Also installed a front spoiler, finishes off the nose. Heres a few car porn pics.
