By the way... the rear axle stopped leaking on its own............

no issue just the AFX spindles are leaps and bound ahead of using stock ones with the G-mod

No problem except you're basically making a aesthetic change. Did you already have the Gulstrand mod on your stock sub?

I guess that also answers how I could not figure how the brakes would work?

skatinjay27 01-11-2010 10:27 PM

if speedtech is sending you a fully done frame then Im assuming you'll be getting the AFX spindles too and those need vette based brake setups. i would think some of your brake parts would interchange though.

on a off topic note: i watched the "text yo self" with you like a month ago...damn that was funny CIRCLE JERK hahaha...

I am receiving the complete frame. If it does need Z06 brakes... i have access to a few sets.... so thats a good thing. For some reason i assumed the current Willwoods i have would have just swapped over.

keep in mind you dont have to run z06 brakes if you dont want to, you just need the brackets and rotor hats that were designed for c5 or c6 uprights and you should be able to keep you willwoods.

I installed the Speedtech subframe..
What a HUGE improvement over stock. There is no rubbing issues at all. Here are a couple pics of the install. It took about 3 days to do. My car has a twin turbo set up... and the only 2 things that had to change was the exhaust downpipe on the drivers side... and i had to notch a section for an intercooler pipe. Other than that.. it was extremely painless.

98ssnova 04-06-2010 10:50 PM

Car looks good I have been thinking about getting this sub myself but dont know if it in the cards.

GregWeld 04-07-2010 06:57 AM

Glad to hear of the improvement Josh!

Now you better take the car out to Todds and leave it for awhile til the ground thaws out for you..

Flash.... thanks for asking..
I was ripping it for a while in MI. Not sure if you heard the 180mph viper race story... that was pretty fun. (50-180+ vs. a 850 hp viper that runs low 10's @138... took him by 1.5 car lengths twice)
Then took her down to a photo shoot where i was playing around drifting the gal.. did a few burnouts.... then the tires started hooking and i blew apart the spider gears..lol. We threw it back together... i moved to Carlsbad... the rear end wasn't acting right.. so i had Jerry at Oceanside driveline throw in a Detroit Tru trac. I also had Best of Show guys clean up some of that left over "Sema rush" paint...haha. Those guys are great.
Took her over to Turn Key and got a real nice cold start tune on her... now.. She is off to my buddy Shadowman just north of Sacramento.. where she will be getting her insides dissected.
We are going to completely update the wiring. Shadowman uses all the top of the line wire connectors and "fine tunes" the entire wiring. So when you look under the dash.. she will look "brand new BMW style".
He works on some pretty serious stuff. Check out his web site.

Once i get it back from there.. i will join some of these local so-cal guys and start trying to learn "cone driving".

Here he is draggin a Procharged 69 camaro that went 8.99@149.
Don't mind the funny ass hick in the beginning!! lol.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y3CKi...layer_embedded
The camaro couldn't get out of the hole good on the street.. but the vipers top end is craaazy.

Ha, I remember seeing that street race vid before. I've always wanted a Viper to play with! Don't take much to get big power out of them, esp if you have the forged internal motor of the late 90s from the factory.

speedshftr 09-02-2010 03:08 PM

ive had 5 vipers over the years and its the only car i ever had that i beat some motor cycles on.the down low gut busting tourqe is where its at.

Ouch! That one hurts!!

phillym5 09-08-2010 03:50 PM

Well.. she has been delivered to the one and only "Shadowman". Shadowman nick names every car that enters his facility based on the character and purpose. So... he nicked named the Camaro.. "Road Kill"..lol. based on it kills anything that steps to it on the road. lol. (yeah, he knows of all the highway races).
So now he is going to put all updated wiring with the bad ass "BMW" style connectors.. and take away all wires from the harness that aren't being used. It should really "complete" the car. Im also having him re due the stereo system and get rid of the "volcano" style speakers in the rear shelf amongst other things.
I believe once she leaves Discovery.... she will then be "complete".
Here is the link that will show all the updates. Shadowman facility is beyond cool.. and the cars that come through there are top notch. Im pretty stoked to have him tighten up the camaro.

I'd go with the Mini Cooper wiring option instead, based on the fact your driving style matches up to that in 'The Italian Job'.

:D

tcronkright 09-11-2010 02:11 PM

Awesome improvement. I can't wait to burn up the '5' in a couple months! We'll see how the chevy and pontiac stack up.
