John to bad you are on the other side of the country  |
what made you go with the fat lip instead of a step lip?
|
John, I feel your pain. Pick your builder carefully as you can pay good money and still not get good product as goes w/anything in life you hire out, can be absolutely frustrating at times. Good luck and can't wait to see your car finished.

John, just got my 67 kinda half done (well enough to be able to drive and parts not fall out) last week. I know time is tight with work and little ones (I am burning the midnight oil myself, with work, and want to spend free time with my little ones), but consider tackling some of the stuff yourself if it is more reassembly and you have the skills. I would be glad to help on some stuff if you get to a tight spot, plus having your ride locally will give you the extra motivation. I know a ride taking a while to get built takes steam away, but hang in there. Several killer rides are being built here (i.e. your Maro and Lenies are great examples of inspiring kick ass builds), so again, hang in there!!
Talking about motivation, got the car "ready" enough to drive to the United show last weekend with the Blue Angels. I know it has to come down a couple feet :) I will pass by your store and give you a ride! Fun stuff, 400 plus HP with power brakes and lap belts :P The to do list is still huge, but will tackle stuff slowly while building the vert on the side :) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...d/IMG_2175.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...d/IMG_2155.jpg |
There is an end in sight! She has the front on finally.

Went up there to check progress today and took some pics. Im not digging my taillights anymore. Probably going to sell them and pick up some black ones instead. Do you guys think turbos near the carbon fenders will melt my inner fenders?

I agree on the taillights. They pop too much!
|
I'd powder coat the outer part of the housings gloss black, leave the center polished, and paint a red pin stripe on the outer raised edge of the housing!

Back tires on that car are HUGE! I like it!! Agreed...the tail lights don't fit the vibe of the car.

Depends on how close you are and if you plan to run any heat shields. The basic answer is yes - you will see damage from heat. Once the surface temp exceeds the cure temp of the resin in the panel - it will soften and then the resin will begin to boil off leaving dry fabric. If the temp gets to close/high you will set the resin on fire. You'll need to use protective wraps or heat shields of some type. If the original cure of the panel was at room temp, or cured at high temp, or post cured at high temp will tell you what the temp operating range you should protect th surface from. Jim |
It looks great John.
|
you can always get the tail lights coated translucent black.
|
John. Who makes those tail lights? I bought EMS ones that I'll be milling down a bit around the edges to give a little cleaner look
|
They are Fesler lights.
|
add another one to the list of "dump the lights"
they stick out like a sore thump... i prefer the look of the marquez lights myself, not just for finish reasons but they are much more detailed and aesthetically pleasing. |
Defo agree.. those lights are too much.
I would go for some anodised black ones myself. Re the carbon, you should be fine. Consider F1 cars that are made of carbon and the exhaust run through the bodywork. but worst case, fab up an stainless heat shield? |

You should listen to what Jim has to say. Carbon composites is one of his areas of expertise. He has worked as a production and training manager at a carbon composites company. His information isn't just opinion. By the way, the car is looking amazing. I can't wait to see it finished! |
?
Hey John, Looks like you are going to use a carbon Hood too, will the Heat from the TT's & exhaust headers distort the hood as well, just wondering, project is looking good:thumbsup:

My powder coater does an almost clear, not quite clear but black. It really pops on polished parts. Similar to what Rushforth does to his rims with the smoke finish. I have been trying to find pictures. |

Well that sucks....
Maybe I can spray a high temp clear coat on all my carbon parts? |

I know ceramic clear is good to about 600 |
