Seems like a 700+ crank hp motor.
|
Quote:
700 is a bit much.. I could have gotten then with a more aggressive cam, but I want to keep my street manners. 243/259 .624 114LSA |

Should be an interesting dyno session. I think most were surprised when you made 499 hp with that little LS for Track Rat. |

I will be curious when we chassis dyno TR to see if the RW numbers jive with the engine dyno numbers.. Then again.. you almost have to try these days NOT to make 500 HP with an LS engine. |

Beautiful motor. I'm gonna guess 672hp and 638 ft#s.
Giddyup. |
Very nice Steve!!!
I'm going to guess anywhere between 650 and 675 ponies. GOOD LUCK! |

I don't know if the ATI balancer is new but make sure the bolts that hold it together don't stick out far enough to throw your crank pulley out of alignment. I had to add one brake caliper shim between the pulley and balancer. Just a friendly heads up. If you can feel them with your finger nail, you better shim it.

But yea, with a pulley I can see where that would be a problem. |
Duh...it's early. Let's see them dyno numbers and video.
|
They show a 5.3L being 325 cid and you made 499 hp which is approx 1.54 hp per cu in.
If you could do that again you'd make 697 hp. |

Today was dyno day.. my guess (what I hoped for) was 650/620.. turned out to be a decent guess.
While the cam we're running is large compared to other LS cams it's not that big considering the displacement of the engine. COMP said I could pick up a bunch of tq/hp by moving to a more aggressive 112 LSA, but drivability and idle would suffer. Since I don't want too much power and I want to keep my street friendly drivability we settled on a 114 LSA. Fired right up.. idle was good and after some break in time Westech made some pulls and adjusted the A/F.. Best pull was 650 hp and 613 tq.. but the best part is that even down at 3500 rpm it's already making 550 lb/ft. The torque peeks at around 4600 and is still well over 500 up at 6500. That's the kind of torque curve I was looking for - flat and a bit weighted to the bottom/midrange area. Friday we start installing.. this engine should serve me well while I CAREFULLY build my RHS blocked / Mast Motorsport headed 460 engine. Wow Steve. That looks great.
Nice torque numbers and curve. That'll be a blast in Penny... |
"Best pull was 650 hp and 613 tq.. but the best part is that even down at 3500 rpm it's already making 550 lb/ft"
:woot: Nice numbers Steve - Big Block numbers for sure. Now we will really get to see Penny's suspension and brakes working-it-out on the track! |
Here's a little video for you guys.. turn your speakers up and rock out to the LS goodness..

Nice pull Steve. Race Engine Development does some nice work on sleeving.. hey. Now you can have all the future power adders you want for next years rebuild LOL. What ever happened to the RHS block?
|
Great tq numbers at 3500.
You mentioned doing a 460. What will it be going into? Similar specs to the 454? |
While it's not quite what I expected it's a perfect engine for what we do. The torque curve is beautiful. I'm betting you'll be happier with the results in the car than you were when you walked out of the engine shop. We put a 110 LSA in mine and it's not quite as happy say between 1200-1600 slowing down in gear. It bucks some now where it didn't before. I can still pull any gear from 1600 up with no problem. I'd leave it and enjoy.

I will make similar power.. maybe a bit more due to the better Mast heads, but it will have a higher quality rotating assembley and a few other widgets that I prefer. No power adders.. all NA.. simple, reliable, and lightweight. |

Very nice Steve. Let us know how it works out for you on the track.
ENJOY!! |

Awesome numbers Steve, will this motor be for sale when you swap in the 460?
I'm running a 112 LSA on my 346 and don't find the street manners all that bad. With 454 cubes it would have been no problem. But I understand you are going for more torque down low. So do I get a prize for guessing the exact power level? :unibrow: |
Great Numbers Steve!
a 114? I am running a 110 in a stock cube LS1. Looks like you got just what you wanted.
Looking forward to driving impressions. |

I just figured the extra power would only be good for bragging rights.. this way I get the power I think the car can handle and excellent street manners. The nice part is that if the car can hook this then more power is just a cam swap away. |
Looking good! Cant wait to see Penny this summer Steve.

guess its time to rip my motor apart. Nice Steve. |
Instead of hunting Easter eggs today we did this...
http://i44.tinypic.com/i4mrt3.jpg Thanks to D!ck over at BOS for helping me swing the new drivetrain into place. Tomorrow I start plugging everything in and installing the drive system. So far, so good... |
Nice! :d

Another 12-hour day.
Engine was wired up today, exhaust installed, fuel system is almost back together. Installed my new Turn One power steering pump along with a few more goodies and plumbed the oil system. Might fire up tomorrow.. or Wednesday. Inner fenders are in paint and the lower valance is going to get clear filmed tomorrow. Pretty much a car again. :) http://i43.tinypic.com/fzc2g3.jpg |
Lookin' good my man
I know you are tired of sitting on the sidelines and ready to drive.
I hope the rest goes smoothly |

You ever meet Steve? This is not a man that you'll find 'sitting'.... The car looks great Steve! As I told you at RTTC - love the oil plumbing! |
love that car Steve, looks great.
