I started this build 5 + years ago, with the intent on not getting out hand, and well you know the story. I figured no kids , not much responsibility. I need a hobby to keep me out of trouble.
Now 2 kids, 5 years later and going on 41 My out out look has most definitely changed but it's to late to quit. My oldest turned four today and he is going to be helping me on final build. So I think it's worked out for the better.
The following Pictures of reason why it's takjng for ever ( to many smalls )but I will be happy when it's done and if not no one else to blame but my self.http://i1232.photobucket.com/albums/...ps159bbb24.jpghttp://i1232.photobucket.com/albums/...ps3e869fc0.jpghttp://i1232.photobucket.com/albums/...ps9a16df05.jpg

so my NOT MUCH https://lateral-g.net/forums/showthread.php4?t=51749 breather is finished and installed.
phase 1 is complete all liquids are in ,wiring , weather stripping etc complete car all done . I wanted to build it completely down to every molding , weather stripping etc to make sure it all fits as it suppose to . so i have a few adjustments on the list already.
cranked it up ( let it idle for a while ) a few days ago sounds great ,clutch engagement is dead on , no leaks after heat up cycle . all lights work properly. everything looked good until 2 days later when it would just turn on for a second or so and died . so after getting on the phone with PSI found out its not getting +12v at MAF . fuse that feeds it good so its loosing signal somewhere in between. well figure it out hopefully without major surgery .
My plan is to drive it the Long Beach High Performance Swapmeet on 01/31/16

don't mind those ugly welds they will get redone[URL=http://s1232.photobucket.com/user/frankv11/media/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_6549_zpsre0qknsg.jpg.html]http://i1232.photobucket.com/albums/...psre0qknsg.jpg[/URLhttp://i1232.photobucket.com/albums/...psn0gjw52i.jpg
another CO2 tank sacrificed for overfill tank made this line because a standard fitting would not clear intakehttp://i1232.photobucket.com/albums/...psepewbwsa.jpg

safety wired those exhaust grommets to keep them from collapsing while let exhaust expand/ move

2 kids later and still going at it , had to add space to pull wagon .
i went with guard dog everything is hooked up but its isolated( not in service ) ran a regular ignition switch in parallel for start up purposes , just to eliminate any other variables . once I'm happy with how everything is running , ill post up a review on it.

Thanks guys
See if video post works , thanks to Gary at PSI we figured out the problem and its up and running , runs pretty decent considering it still needs tune .

Still finding things that need some massaging . Like DSE boaster /break pedal returning too slow. lower driver windshield molding fits like poop, weather stripping , amongst other things , so I'm still glad I have taken this route of complete build and drive before final disassembly and paint

What is your rear end length, And your wheel back spacing in the rear?

Sorry but it's been a while and don't know , but it's the DSE rear end for they're mini tub kit , and wheel is 18x12 w 5.5"
Would like to say 55.5" or rear end

I'll look it up when I get a chance

JDODDS187 02-13-2016 05:25 AM

ok thanks, I wasn't sure what lengths guys were running. I may have a line on a full floater but its 57", But I would like to have a deep offset on the rear wheels, so I'm curious to see what the offsets actually look like on the car. Do you by chance know how narrow you can get away with with the DSE deep tubs?

Ron in SoCal 02-13-2016 01:41 PM

JD every car is different, so measure for sure. I could not fit 55.5" and 12" wide / 5.5 BS wheels on the rear. 54.5" was the ticket for me. I know others have gone a skootch wider.

Cheers,

Ron in SoCal 02-13-2016 01:44 PM

Frank! Congrats on lighting the fire!! That is such a great time in a build

Agree with Ron . Measure , measure
Now I'm curious cause I can not find my notes on that. It's only been 5 years or so.:)
Yes it is Ron . Got to get brakes figured out, a few break in miles and get some good shake down runs..

JDODDS187 02-14-2016 09:40 AM

Yah thanks, I was curious, mine is also a 69 camaro and I figured I would ask because that deep offset in you wheels is about what looking for. I still haven't put together the back half of mine as of yet, still a few more things to do before I even hang the rear quarters. I will be scavenging most of my parts and would like to know what has worked for other cars.

JD . If you call DSE they would give info, they are very helpful, also next time I'm under there I will make sure to measure it

frankv11 05-15-2016 03:36 PM

Well it's up and running , still got some adjustments that need to be done but it runs and drives like a dream. Today was the first time that I actually enjoyed the drive ( punched it a few times ). It's very responsive all around . I actually expected a more rigid ride considering it's bare bones metal shell on solid body mounts. The only interior on it is the door panels.
Need to change coil over springs from 450s to 550s
Run a vent for rear end , it's spilling a bit of gear oil
Got to figure out the pwm out puts for cooling fans, from ecu they're always grounded and on. I'm pretty sure it's a programming issue.

All systems are up ( minus AC ). Including guard dog Ikey RS ( works great ).

I eliminated AC Pullys initially because I'm not comfortable with the bearings and compressor is sitting on my hand built bracket. Don't know how the belt is going to react yet in the high rpms. So that's next on the list . After that ,drive heck out of it . Brake all down again for final stage .

That was something else that I thought about but if I run bracket on exhaust and another on body w 3/8" bolt to hold grommet together. It will not give it room to grow. I'm trying to guide the expansion by way of hangers so it will not compromise the close tolorances to body at certain places.. I have the whole system tucked in there pretty tight. For now it's just theory I'll see how it behaves once I put some heat to it..
Good eye

Nice job on the exhaust. I don't want to be the bad news guy but those hangers won't work that way.

You have the absolute right idea by keeping all the rods parallel so they can slide back forth as the exhaust grows, but those grommets will not stay in place. I know they "snap" together but they are actually designed to work with a through bolt that holds them together.

If you swap out the grommets and the brackets for a different style hanger, like the ones pypes sells or the universal parts store ones you will be fine.

So simple, it only took me a few years to figure it out. Safety wire the sucker together :/

So I have been playing with it when time permits . Built these hood pieces " wanted to put 200dx to work". Not my cup of tea , they're doing too much but it was fun building them .
Been chasing some idle voltage issues .
Got dash board , center console and interior quarter panels powder coated , dash got some leather. The bare metal reflection was not good for driving.
In the process of finalizing kick panels. Made them out perforated aluminum .
AC is blowing cold, no known issues w idler pulleys and home made bracket.
Trying to put any and all trim / pieces make sure it fits .
Still cutting and welding on a few spots as it comes up.

Drove it to Pomona swap meet . It pulls and drives very nice all around.
Maybe flaring front fenders about an inch at most to get the perfect stance

more my style. They are open vents and more importantly they look cool lol.
5052 aluminum ,got them to fit as perfect as possible. Very happy with the outcome .

Oh yeah need to pick a color too. My gray w very fine yellow pearl is out the door. Some type of off White with crimson interior " old news now ". Now I'm leaning more towards a nice silver w black interior or just go back to old school. Red and black.

Another I'm contemplating is a nice old school jag green exterior . Something like B57jtr
Thanks marti
