2nd Chance Camaro - Rocky Mounts
2012 04-30 Update - Rocky Mounts www.rockymounts.com www.2ndchancecamaro.com This post is all about my first love (other then my family of course). I am a die-hard mountain biker it is very hard for me to miss a ride in the summer due to a show schedule. The only way to solve this was either to buy a Lotus and order a rack from Unique Racks http://uniquerack.com so I could have a cool car with a bike rack on it. But it didn't solve the problem. I wouldn't be able to do any of the Good-Guys shows (www.good-guys.com ) since the Lotus would be was newer then 1972. Warning: the following pictures may not be suitable for immature audiences. author: David Chooey So here is my dream bike and I am trying to figure out a way to mount the bike on the side of the car and wondering how it would look. I know most people would put it on the back but that is way to boring for me. Now that I determined the location all I have to do is find the best looking tray on the market. When I was in Colorado at Cankworx ( www.crankworx.com ) I walked by the Rocky Mounts Display ( www.rockymounts.com ) and saw the perfect tray. I wanted to buy one at the show but I figured Southwest wouldn't let me carry it on the plane home. I ordered up the tray the day I got home and started mocking it up on the car. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...a058bd7-me.jpg You can see that the tray's has a very thin profile and looks very clean on the side of the car. I can't wait to order a set for my daily driver. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...1d44c65-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...61d7973-me.jpg Warning: the following pictures may be offensive and not suitable for automotive purists. author: David Chooey I hauled the car back to High Speed Welding ( www.highspeedwelding.com ) and showed Dennis and Joe my idea. Good thing for me both of them thought it was a cool idea. We have two goals make it removable so I can run the car through a car wash and to try not to disturb the original lines of the car. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...ddaffac-me.jpg When the tray is removed all that will be left is two stainless steel bungs on the quarter. Kenny will be making a cap to cover them up when the Rocky Mount tray is removed. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...1cb08b3-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...085412c-me.jpg Since this hole was already on the side of the car we choose to use it for the rear mount. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...019b21d-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...3f4cce7-me.jpg Here is the finished product. I AM RIGHT HERE Just in case you didn't read the warning the first time. Warning: the following pictures may be offensive and not suitable for automotive purists. author: David Chooey http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...2491189-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...a0295ce-me.jpg I am well aware that most people think I am crazy and that is okay and here is my thoughts on that. I hear parents every day telling me that all there kids do is play video games. Then I point out that most adults sit on the coach at watch Sports and the latest TV Series. So as parents they are no better. So get out and do something active instead of telling your kids when I was young we never watched TV we were out playing. Live life guys and gals as this may be the only one you get. Pictures hosted by www.garagescene.net I also need to thank my buddy Rick for showing me pictures of the Lotus Bike rack years ago. Without those pictures I may have mounted on the back of the car and that would have just been boring. |
Man you got huevos...:P

Marty,
Does the forward mount tie into the sheet metal on the surface, or does it pierce the sheet metal and tie into the roll bar too? --Eric |

Very nice Marty! I don't know why this impressed me with all the high dollar performance stuff that gets showcased here, but dude! Very nice, keep up the progressive thinking.
|
Gotta give ya credit for thinking outside of the box..Thats pretty cool. Better than showin up with a mini van
|
Marty,That's a great Idea.I wonder if I could build one of those for my Honda CR450F.
|
I knew you were dead serious about bringing the bike along...I just didn't see this mount coming! Very cool!
|
LOVE IT!!! So much better than hanging a bike on the back.
|
I've been thinking about installing a treadmill on my roof.
|
or an exercise bike in the passenger footwell.

and the treadmill on the roof -that has me thinking |
Ballsey as hell and very cool!
Jeff- |
Awesome, but the asymmetrical design is killing me. Please add one to the driver side as well.
I'll stick with a trailer for mine. At least when not hauling the bike(s), the trailer could also be used to haul track day tools and equipment. |

Prom queen could ride on the bike in a parade too!
|
:lateral: Better yet... who has the b@!!s to ride on the bike during an autocross????
|
i actually like that placement! ALOT thats gonna look cool driving down the road!
the only thing that stick out to me as doing different would have been to french the bung mounts in the body so that when you remove it its has a smoother appearance. still not to late.;) |

Marty the first picture shocked me, but it looks good on there. Great imagination!
|
Marty you really need to learn to weld. As many times as you have hauled this thing back and forth to the welding shop already, I bet it already needs an oil change.....:D
BTW I think it is a cool idea.  |

ps - I actually took auto-body in High School for 3 years and that is when I realized that sanding a car was not for me. |
Just chiming in here with a useless post that mountain biking is the greatest sport in the world.
I'd like to thank the car hobby for making top of the line, state of the art mountain bikes and accessories seem reasonably cheap. |
2nd Chance Camaro - Kore 3 Rear Brakes & Moser Axles's
2012 05-29 Update - Kore 3 Rear Brakes & Moser Axles's www.kore3.com www.2ndchancecamaro.com Okay I am way behind at posting updates. Installing the Kore3 brakes is so easy install even my 11 year old daughter can do it. First we remove the stock axles and original drum brakes. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...f12c646-me.jpg Here is the complete Kore3 rear brake kit. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...d575a1c-me.jpg We installed the supplied bracket and did a quick test fit of the caliper. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...040f4a2-me.jpg In order for the GM Rotors to fit on the axles you need to machine down the axle flange. Instead of machining down the 40 year old axle I called Moser and had the build a set of HD Axles with the proper flange diameter. My daughter ran the tap down thru the bolt holes to ease the install of the ARP wheels studs. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...8637f12-me.jpg Like I said so simple a 11 year old could do it. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...5770395-me.jpg Final Install Picture and yes my daughter installed the entire kit with only a little help. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...a536b1a-me.jpg Since the rear cover was off it was the perfect time to install the Aluminum Differential cover from Summit Racing. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...14c5960-me.jpg Did I mention it's "Made in America" http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...bd9f600-me.jpg pictures hosted by www.garagescene.net |
2nd Chance Camaro - Rear Seat Restraints
2012 06-25 Update - Rear Seat Restraints www.2ndchancecamaro.com Evening all, Since this car is being built to haul the family it's important to have restraints for all passengers. I had the guys at High Speed Welding in Westmont, IL install a mounting point for the 4 Point restraints for the kids. www.highspeedwelding.com Couple Quick Pics http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...3dc916e-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...a5a6c26-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...231a1b6-me.jpg Sorry about the picture quality however you can see where the mounts are located. Once the car is back together the plan is get a hold of the guys at Seat Belt planet to make some custom seat belts for the kids. pictures hosted by www.garagescene.net |
Marty,
That is a nice discreet way to add a restraint system! --Eric |

2012 06-26 Update - DSE Subframe Connectors www.2ndchancecamaro.com Evening all, Since the body and the subframe need to get put back together we figured now is a good time to install the Sub-Frame connectors from DSE. Once again the guys at High Speed welding handled the work. www.highspeedwelding.com http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...cf108c8-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...b110015-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...af40ee2-me.jpg What I like the most about there connectors is how close they fit to the body. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...9642aed-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...ca3489b-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...8feb797-me.jpg pictures hosted by www.garagescene.net |
