Sorry Jeff couldn't resist! Just put the windows down and you will be good.

I've tried some of the aftermarket window regs in the past :warning: their junk as far as I'm concerned. I alway try to reuse the org or hit eBay to find a set of orgs?? Now with you using the deluxe ones that can be a little tougher.

GregWeld 08-16-2013 06:56 AM

Polish up some mid-sized vice grips for the window cranks! You'll start a new trend....

OMG! Sorry to hear of these issues! But like you said -- at least it's happening while still at the shop. Unlike the azz hollio shop that built my '32 Ford and handed it to me to head for a show in Santa Barbara, California.... where it wouldn't run - finally did after I fixed that - only to die on the freeway - to ride on a rollback - with fluids dripping from everything that held fluids and no brake lights -- and on and on and on.

I wasn't really pissed until the idiots charged me to paint the taillight housings "WHITE" because the reason the lights didn't work was because we just couldn't see them... Then I was ready to go "postal".

I've never heard of the window crank issue.... and that sounds like maybe they need to try a different crank.... maybe a Ford or Mopar part -- at least to get you to the show?

Just like every OER part I have bought, they all go in the garbage or you spend half a day modifying it to make it work..

DFRESH 08-17-2013 12:07 AM

Man, it's so typical isn't it? You buy the best parts, and somehow they still find a way to fail. Makes me wonder how the OEM's ever get a car to run and be dependable for 100k miles when stuff like this happens. A key fob? The relay? How come that rarely happens on production cars? In the words of my daughter "Me not know"--but it sure is frustrating. Keep going brother, you will beat them all ---continue to be tenacious and you will win these mini battles that seem like a war right now. You are so close!

Sieg 08-17-2013 05:33 AM

Jeff - The car looks and sounds exceptional!!! What Borla muffler are you using?

As for the Gremlins...............:smiley_smack:

If that Q-Fuel doesn't get it done "proper" look into a Holley HP Ultra. I'm really liking mine.

Richio1 08-17-2013 06:47 AM

So the cruise in starts at 5:00 last night. I talk to Chris at 2:00 to see how things are going since he's an hour and a half away. Says he washing it and ready to go. Get a call at 3:30... It's spewing gas from the tank, major fuel leak.

Well the night before the gas gauge goes dead so they trace it to the sending unit. Drop the tank and realize the wire on the sending unit got rubbed through between the tank and undercoating so shorted out. Easy fix.... Well when they put the sending unit back in the gasket slipped and after fueling up yesterday once pressure in the take rose it started spitting fuel out.

Chris says he has 4 guys on it. once done he is ready to go...ugh. Here we go. I head down to the show with the crew and don't hear from him for a couple hours which gets me thinking it's not going to happen.

I get a call at 5:00... "Where am I going, almost there". Not only did he make it, he drove it the 80 miles from the shop to Napa! Crazy, brave, I don't know... What ever, but it was a grand entrance showing up about an hour late and rolling in with a full crowd.

Was awesome to see her come cruising in. Chris had a trunk full of spare parts just in case. What a great night.

I got to drive her home which was awesome. Getting ready to head out to the show in a bit.

Thanks Rick... Yeah pretty awesome. We had a good size crowd hanging out waiting and checking out my buddies cars. When Chris came rolling in there was a group gathering behind as he drove in to park. Well received.

John - was more of a sleep over. She spent the nigh in my garage then went back to Cloverdale last night in preparation for West Coast Nats. It was awesome getting to drive her to and from the show though.

Chris headed out for the 80 mile trip back about 4. Around 4:20 my cell rings. Guess who? He tells me he stopped for gas and was leaving for the highway when she died. Thankfully he was still in town so I shot down and with the help of a couple car guys we pushed her back into the parking lot. The Holley blue pump died. Chris' wife went to the shop, grabbed the hauler and came to pick up the car.

Thanks... We received many complements both days. It was nice having Chris, the builder, there to give him the credit and have the chance to share details on the car.

The journey isn't over yet. Chris reminded me last night that he said it would break down 3 times... Have 2 more to go. But yes, the finish line is very near.

The rebuild Quickfuel seems to be fine. If anything goes wrong, Holley gets the order.

Yeah great night. Get to drive my car for the first time in 3.5 years. Tucked her in the garage then went for pizza and some great wine with the guys.

Jeff,

That is one impressive saga. :wow:

As a friend of mine used to say... "Temporary inconvenience for permanent improvement."

Ron in SoCal 08-18-2013 07:25 PM

Jeff congrats on a (mostly) successful outing! Driving your car and having a sleepover must've felt great

Don't sweat the issues. Comes with the territory. You'd laugh at my motorsports saga this weekend!

Flash68 08-18-2013 07:30 PM

Yep the really fun stuff is just starting to happen! :)

Absolutely. I got the fuel pump from a buddy of mine. "slightly used" I recall him saying. Well now it will be a new one and should be one less thing to worry about for a while. As Chris said, you don't want to go cheap on things like a fuel pump.

Yeah sleep over was. I snuck out into the garage while waiting for Chris in the morning so I could just stare at it for a while.

Like Weld said, its just part of hot rodding. Sad thing is, Chris brought a trunk full of spare parts just in case. Starter, coil, 6AL box, distributor, etc., but he left the box with the fuel bump in the bench by accident. Murphy's law. Thats alright, we got to spend another 3 hours in a sports bar talking shop while waiting for the trailer.

Here is one of the crappy cell phone pics. Now I'm pissed I left the good camera at home. Friday night they had around 130 cars then on Sat there was over 400. Not bad for Napa.

Even with the crappy phone that looks :bigun2:

Jeff that is a thing of beauty right there!!!:king:

Richio1 08-22-2013 09:31 PM

For any of you headed to Good Guys this weekend in Pleasanton make sure to stop by the main exhibit hall. Chris from West Coast Auto Craft will have my 69, John's Bloodline 68 and Bruce's 67 called Golden Girl on display inside.

I talked to Chris earlier this evening to check in and see how the 2.5 hour drive from Cloverdale to Pleasanton was. Besides him loosing some hearing he said my car ran great, no problems, acted fine in stop and go traffic and only took just under 2 tanks of gas to get there. (125 miles) :bang:

I'm pretty fired up to actually have her there and registered. I have the camera packed so this time we will get some good pics.

tubbed69 08-22-2013 11:27 PM

Nope stock tank, unfortunately. M20 with 3.73's at 70-75 mph equals bad gas mileage.

Richio1 08-23-2013 09:28 PM

Here are a couple. More tomorrow. Place was packed today. A ton of beautiful cars. Get here early.
