We were waiting for all those Shelby Club Sunday drivers to get out of Greg's way. :unibrow:

Ok, I'll play nice...glad you just bruised the ego, a fender and but no internal oregons. ;)

Track Junky 08-04-2012 07:36 PM

I had a great time today and to my surprise my boys had a great time also. I asked the boys if they wanted to go to Buttonwillow with me and they said yes so it looks like I finally got them to start likeing going to the track.

We watched Charlie race from the garage area and then we (me, Dave, and the boys)watched Greg from the grass area just below Earnhart Terrace. Turn 3 is one of my favorite places to watch at Sonoma Raceway because near the end of the runs when the tires are slick the cars start to get sideways and sometimes spin 180's. Greg looked really good out there and I can see how excited he is with his new hobby. Good stuff!!

This is the first event I have ever gone to where there was so much carnage, lol. I think there were about 4 accidents today which involved a car and a wall.

Uh.... wait.... I forgot to tell you that I fell off Charley's Segway... Yep... flat on my face (where's the toothless grin icon?)....

So I'd ridden it earlier -- with Charley's "instructions" (unrepeatable in a public forum)... So I needed it to go to talk to the guys about fixing my car... Sure! He says... but I didn't know you actually have to turn it on to make all the gyros etc (and the machine) work... So I jump on and lean forward - it goes nowhere - so I lean some more - it goes nowhere... so..... Yeah, okay - it starts with dumb and ends with azz..... I lean more and now I just fall flat. SPECTACULARLY GOOD FUN FOR ALL WATCHING....

It'll buff out...

I'm glad you came out Gae! Glad the boys enjoyed the day. I love the track... and maybe will do better next time (at least I didn't SMASH a wall... just swapped a little paint with it). There really were some NASCAR style wrecks out there!

Oh man what an eventful day!

Hopefully the motor carnage is minimal.

Vince@Meanstreets 08-04-2012 10:39 PM

aww man that sucks, but it could have been worst I suppose.

I have a feeling BW is going to be packed with rental cars on the day.

Greg, your car looks way better in person than in pictures. Other than the new NASCAR stripe you added at the track that paint is cherry and interior is really clean looking.

I just wish my car was running and I could have been running with you guys and hang out longer. Oh well, maybe next time.

BTW, I missed the opportunity to meet Jack Maurer. Thats what happens when dont get to spend all day.....you miss stuff

There was a second gen Camaro running in your group that looked really good out there. I talked to the owner a bit and was surprised to hear it was all stock suspension but then again I'm sure the Hoosiers he was running were a big help. The silver first gen we were watching was nice looking but he didn't look to fast. Alot of real nice Mustangs out in the paddock.

Oh, and how about that '76ish Fairlane and '63ish Falcon!! It was cool to see some "out of the box" cars

clill 08-05-2012 06:37 AM

I have never sen someone stay balanced on a Segway that is not turned on for as long as Greg did. The forward somersault was priceless. At the beginning of the weekend I made it very clear to Greg that this is not Thunderhill, there are walls here:willy: :willy:

oh thats funny, would of been better had someone got that on tape.

Funny how Charlie didn't mention anything as you just kept leaning over more and more each time.

96z28ss 08-06-2012 04:25 PM

Greg, atleast your not the only one that has trouble on the segway.

you could get one of these and forget to tell Charlie you need the red key.

I think it would be more embarrassing if one of us rented a C6 and beat you in that same car that you own and drive. :D

Not surprised to see you running your mouth since you have no chance of showing up with the end of your life coming the following weekend. :unibrow:

Greg that just shows commitment, When you decide to go have fun with these "collector" cars, or whatever you want to call them, you have to accept that things can happen. And who cares what people say "it's to nice to track", "it's collectable", "you could wreck it" - You decided to have fun with it! period. Love that you are out there with such a nice ride, I would do the same. We only live once as they say.

Shiat, who am I to tell you this. We all know you know this by all your comments around here.

Vegas69 08-06-2012 09:46 PM

I'd add one more phone book next time.

No mention of viagra? Or is that just implied with the Corvette?

intocarss 08-06-2012 11:44 PM

That sucks. But on the brite side now you don't have to worry about scratching her, SO put it to the wood!!

GregWeld 08-07-2012 05:06 AM

This is no "collectible" car... it's purely a track car. And I drive it as hard as I can. Others have driven it far harder (and better... I might add!)

Dick McGee starts to adjust the valves --- and then finds the dropped lash cap... and says "well... the thing to do is pull the motor and get it over to Tony Odo and have it gone through... my shop rate is $80 and hour and..." That's when I interrupted him and said... Dick, it's a race car... Is it done yet? Oh and while it's here... we should do this and this. He got the message.
