Since the quarter window trim is black then I would paint the window felts black as well. It looks like a lot of your accenting is black on the car. e.g reverse lights, rear panel.
Is your weatherstrip moulding along the roof line black?
Maybe consider using some black door handles? I'm sure the handles you have on there now would sell quickly. Your ride your call.

Paint looks really slick but all the incredible custom mods you've done to the car blows me away.:wow:

Thanks for the feedback and comments. The door handles are anodized black and the roof rail trim is painted black as well. I was leaning towards painting them as well.

I have the same issue. Tried to find some without the metal....don't seem to exist. I'm going to carefully scuff, etch and paint matte. Would be interested if you have any better process.

I think the same process as you described.

Door hinge details....pardon the dust. We are in full assembly thrash mode.

Just to give you guys a heads up there are 2 different types of window felts for 69's. Original restoration looking is with the round bead & the flat bead one. It might be easier to paint the flat bead one but I'm not sure how the flat one sits, cushioned under the bead to prevent paint damage?

cjfirstgen 03-03-2020 05:28 PM

Talk about trying to make 10lbs of s#%t fit in a 5 gal bucket and try to make it look good. Accusump, oil thermostat, remote oil filter mount w/ primer, cooler, radiator overflow, PS reservoir and cooler, ProVent 200 separator, trans cooler and diff cooler. Holy cow! Went all in with Fragola Race-Rite Pro PTFE hose. Invested in the hydraulic crimper, etc and the hose is seriously light weight which has always been a consideration on this build. The hose is awesome if you are considering it but sure is pricey. The bend radius without collapse is very impressive.

Anyhow one corner just mockup thus far.

Wow that looks great I've been thinking about getting a hydraulic crimper and those hoses to replace every hose in my engine bay.Looks great what you've done...

Haven't posted in a awhile but things are progressing well. Plumbing is done which was a total PITA. Coolers, required SB4 vent with 1" lines and Accusump made it challenging to route while minimizing appearance. Electrical is basically done. Had a minor setback with the T56 mag trans where the cooler pump fitting would not seal. I bought the trans used on a 1 year old Tranzilla build so take no chances I sent the trans to Texas Drivetrain Perf and had them repair the issue. Also went with some Liberty Gear billet interlocks, new bronze fork pads and swapped out 6th gear for .58 vs .67 from the 2:29 ZR1 gearset since I will be running 3.73 or 3.90 gears. Should keep a nice 2200 rpm range on the highway for cruising.

We just started hanging the front sheet metal and finishing up the dash.

Sound system is basically done. Just a small 8" sub for just a bit of good bass. Using Memphis Audio. Wires are not fully tucked but you get the idea.

Since everything is controlled with the Ipad thru the InfinityBox InTouch unit I wanted something discreet to control volume and advance a song selection separate from an app. ^^^^ This Memphis unit was perfect so just a small switch that we will incorporate into the interior center console.

Coming together.

Dash preview....no visible switches other than the start button. Switches that we have are hidden in the ashtray. The wiper switch is mounted under the dash.

JJ Furillo with Ultimate Performance assisted me in acquiring the custom spec'd Aero6/Aero4 brakes including custom floating rotor hats. UP also revalved the dbl adj JRi dampeners. We went with the setup that he has experience with from his time tuning on the Optima USCA cars.

I have ARP 12pt SS throughout the build but primarily throughout the DSE suspension and drivetrain. ARP only goes up to 1/2" so I sourced and contracted custom 17-4PH age hardened SS 12pt bolts to match tensile strength in 9/16" for the front and rear DSE suspension. I will never look at $50 bill the same again. And you need about 14 btw with a 6-8 wk lead time.

Dash is about ready. Again no real switches in the build. The InfinityBox PDM system has worked great. Lights, windows, locks, trunk release, HVAC and stereo will all be controlled from an Ipad mounted in the center console.

The front end has been a fight as all the RS front ends are but the fit is going to turn out fantastic. Made a bracket to hold the DSE control box for the RS headlight doors.

We decided on a final project name change with the addition of the Merc engine to "Mercury Rising" sorry for the confusion...the old name just wasn't going to work.

Heads to interior soon....preparing some of the pieces.

I am glad I am not the only one that went crazy with ARP hardware.

On a side note I had Totally Stainless make all of my custom bolts for Syborg and this latest version of 2nd Chance. So I feel your pain.

I tried to obtain from Totally Stainless but they told me their supplier was no longer able to provide the 9/16" bolts and they didn't know if they would ever carry them in the future and went further to say it was very unlikely they would offer them again.

Mercury Rising is a good name.

That hockey stripe is fantastic against the red.

Prepping for interior and finishing up some audio. While it is home with me I had to take a few pics. Still not final sanded in some spots or final buffed throughout. It is so straight and the paint just blows me away.
