Forget that color. Everyone does orange now-a-days. LOL. Gives me an idea of what that style wheel would look like on my ride. :)

..j/k

ironworks 06-21-2007 11:52 AM

My personal 2nd choice is probably blue, But I opinion is to make the car stand out. Blue would look good, but would be more subdued. I like the black cherry also. My personal favorite is orange. I'm not sure if John has even 0narrowed it down to one direction on the color wheel.

Rodger

Jr 06-21-2007 12:28 PM

How about midnight blue?

I think the stance, LS7, rollbar, and exhaust note will make the car standout:thumbsup: ....That is one nasty car!

deuce_454 06-21-2007 01:21 PM

i just painted a bike in a color thet would look plain awesome, a hugger orange BC with a yellow pearl-candy and heavy CC. turned out electric orange, with yellow reflections...i think a flat porche orange will look alittle dull on such a square car, you need a paint job that high-lites the coke-bottle lines and gives the car some shape.. chosing a color just because it looks great on a car as curvy as a porsche might be a mistake...

id look into a paint with some Mica/pearl effect, 3-layer effect kind of refinish..

Didn't Detroit Speed build a Nova that was blue...It sure was purty...

Mick

ironworks 06-22-2007 08:22 AM

The only one I find is Yellow.

Mick Mc 06-22-2007 08:42 AM

My mistake.
It was Street Machine of the Year 2001 Good Times Gazette October 2001.
Built by Doug Schults of StreetWorks based in Auburn, Washington.
For Ted And Sue Richardson of Snohomish, Washington.

That car had a great stance.
Bahama Blue

TravisB 06-22-2007 08:43 AM

I wanna say I rememeber a light metallic blue 66 or 67 with 17's and 18's with a big in SBC that won SMOY a few years ago like maybe 7 or 8.......the car had a nice stance and center exit exhaust in the rear.

John and Rodger-is there a completion date for the car yet?

Yup!

Boy have times changed, I remember when that car won SMOTY....And now you have to have 200K in your car to compete!

ironworks 06-22-2007 10:22 AM

Completion date, We have to pick color and wheels first.

Maybe mid next year ish. If John has picked a color by then. HAHA

John
Yes, that is the car, and a good picture too.

mosconiac
That is a good looking car and I LOVE the bigblock too. (some people won't be surprised by that)

I love the blue, but there seems to be ALOT of blue cars (maybe because it looks good)

Maybe Roy Pigford thought the same thing when he chose the colors for his Nova. And it looked like it was the right choice...

I just finally took a little time to sit thru all 30 something pages of this build. I am in total awe by you guys at Ironworks. You do things with a tubing bender that blow my mind. Hindsight is always 20-20. The only thing I would have done different is to have increased the wheelbase by rolling the rear wheels back 2" or more. Not because you needed to, but because--given your incredible talents--you could.

As for color, I love the orange Carrera theme. Just stretch the SS out real wide so that it consumes a lot of space. Stretch it to the point that the letters are so wide that they are barely legible as S's No reason why the same theme can't be used with a bright color other than orange. On a car this special, you could paint it ass brown and it will still be cool.

You should post a picture of the guy who works the tubing bender taking a bow. Insane!! :faint:

ironworks 06-25-2007 10:32 AM

Thanks, I will pass on the compliment. Sean and Brycen have done most of the work on this project. They work very hard.

We just bought a tubing roller to up the anty on some of our next projects. We have some ideas on using the roller that should really blow peoples minds. W started the tubing roller on Johns car, with the tube on the firewall. Then to top it off we just bought Soildworks to start designing a lot of one off parts for projects to be machined. We also bought a bunch of other big tools, that is will be paying on for years to come, Look out.

Thanks again

Rodger

Hey Rodger,

I know a good SolidWorks guy!

Leadfoot1 06-25-2007 10:55 AM

Rodger...Reading that last phrase...i was thinking it was going to end like this; "We bought many other big tools with the money John is dropping in our shop"!

'Sorry, couldn't help it

Lead. :lateral:

ironworks 06-25-2007 11:16 AM

Well at $55.00 per hour, I don't know about that.

ironworks 06-25-2007 11:18 AM

Eric, I heard that solid works guy works for Champs Bar-B-que and Ironworks T shirts. That is way cheaper than going to class in Fresno. But not as fat free.

Rodger

HWY Nova 06-25-2007 11:22 AM

Boy, am I hungry!

ironworks 06-25-2007 01:27 PM

ironworks 06-25-2007 03:16 PM

Well you know where to find me for 12 hours a day.

I'm gonna install solidworks this afternoon. But the lap top is next week some time.

Rodger

Mick Mc 06-26-2007 11:12 PM

Another guy that works half days.
With that new computer program you might end up working more, that sounds like fun.

Mick

SolidWorks

Rodger is picking up SolidWorks rather quickly. I know where Rodger is heading with his new-found 3D modeling capabilities.... stay tuned! I had a great time with Rodger on Friday (Rodger: Thanks for the goodies & lunch!!!).

I also saw John's Nova on Friday, and it is coming along nicely. Rodger painted one of the rear quarter panels orange just to see how it looked...... just kidding. Seriously: the Nova looks great. A lot of effort is going into details that my not be seen in photos, but the workmanship is outstanding.
