Side note: Rob and Flash are both including a transcript of the entire text train in their respective build books. :woot: |

Since I actually use my phone for some kinda sorta important stuff from time to time.... I've BLOCKED all of them (some 8 or 9 people on the text train). |

Those books have so many chapters.... They'll have to have volumes like an old encyclopedia set. |
I wonder if their wives are concerned? This bromance..

Did you guys stop by the Ministry of Truth while you were in D.C.?:secret:

Last text from Flash last night...."Fading........." I asked Rob to check his pulse.
Great write up once again Dave. Hang in there fellas. |

Thanks G. |
I'm pretty much embarrassed to admit 3 things from yesterday
1) Rob had a faster go kart lap than me (although he does like to bring up his w2w kart racing experience often for the record) 2) I hit the wall so hard on a 135* turn (thought it was one of the WOT corners) that I got air and bruised my ribs pretty good. 3) I aggravated the bruised ribs much worse by playing ping pong with Payton on his formal dining table. (Sorry Cheryl, I just had to mention that) |
This SUCKS

My fast lap must have been due to my superior hp to weight ratio thanks to my diminutive size. :bigun2: :action-smiley-027: |

Dave/Rob, did you find the phone app that finds all the microbrews along a given route? So you put in a location from and to, it shows you all the micros/breweries along the route..can't remember the name off hand though. I knew a guy that did a trip last year with it and loved it. Edit: found it, BreweryMap app. Just plan a route and give it a distance off the route...260 showed up from Charlotte to LA for example :happy23: Be safe and roll on! |
Every chance I get to follow this one, I have this crazy song playing in my head that says something about "west bound and down, loaded up and truckin, were gonna do what WELD says can't be done" lol

Saw that piece you did for Ron.... man that was ridiculous cool. Quote:

Got loaded up at Payton's house and headed out west. A 68 Camaro sure makes a good tote.
http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/f...psb40ab78a.jpg We had to draw the line here unfortunately http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/f...ps2dafbf25.jpg Duck tape... the mark of a quality vehicle fix (hey, at least it's flat black) http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/f...ps57470df3.jpg 1974 Heads up display.... way before its time http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/f...psd271f17b.jpg It's tough to get good service out of a gas station attendant these days. http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/f...psf333d5a1.jpg Pretty damn good parallel park job if I don't say so myself :D http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/f...psb9f49e05.jpg A typical conversation on this trip with the countless locals that walk up to chat about the truck and/or car goes like this: Local dude: "Cool truck" Me: "Thanks!" Local dude: "Nice Camaro, is that a 66?" Me: "Yep" Local Dude: "Is it in good shape?" Me: "Yeah, but our friend the owner will f*ck it all up" http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/f...psf9165bab.jpg Had a great time meeting Rob's idol and engine guru Blair Patrick. Another good ole boy who was a great host and a joy to chat with and learn about rare and mostly forgotten Ford motors. :action-smiley-027: I'll let Rob expand on our experience down there... |
Got to Tennessee and just had to stop at the fireworks stand amongst the many Drive In Theater Screen sized billboards.
So to many of you this may not be cool but in the Communist state of California you would be arrested and waterboarded for this... so we thoroughly got a kick out of it. :) And it's amazing that it is legal to launch right next to anything (per the store gal I bought it from) such as power lines, gas tanks, etc. Some key numbers so far: 1684 miles driven MPG high 8.5 MPG low 6.0 $1239933 paid in turnpike tolls up and down the east coast :bang: Truck scale says 8500# loaded with 68 Camaro body 2 warning tickets by Mass and NH state troopers (both in the rental car :D) Made it to Nashville for some sliders and fried pickles.... off to bed and another long driving day tmrw.... :gitrdun: |
Wow!
So much winning. :thankyou: |

^ Thanks Ron! The new subfr design is pretty stout IMO. The tub is also in good shape, I think. The rest needs some more work.

Good Times at the King Household
Dave and Rob rolled in about 11:30 Monday night and we stayed up till 3:00 doing the normal meet and greet that Ron S and I have made famous (to us anyway). Needless to say we did not get the early start we hoped for on Tuesday, but did make it up the NASCAR "home depot" kind of places.
What we did not get to do was get in Charlotte Motor Speedway, it was closed and locked by the time we got there around 6:00. We also missed the shops and venders we want to see. Once you get shopping with these 2, time just seems to fly. I did score a Woodward column, quick release, firewall bearing and mount. Karting was a ball, apparently I suck as I was beat both times. Thinking about scrapping the SB2 idea and sliding in a straight 6, that way I will have an excuse when I am slow on the track. We had a big fun and as always the time was too short. Took a little bit of the south with them when they left in the form of some apple pie and muscadine shine. |

Geeze Payton how you live in those parts and don't have a NASCAR parts stash in your garage I don't know. I woke up this morning and wondered why my right forearm was hurting.:headscratch: At that point I remembered my using the berm as a combo brake/turn to make a desperate pass to catch Dave. I think you are plenty fast in the Kart, but shear will came into play. NO WAY IN HELL was I listening to Dave for 2000+ miles talk about his Kart sweep victory.:guns: We thought we'd get to ashville and get a pick of the Hauler inf ront of the Biltmore but this was as close as we got. http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...psa3e17e77.jpg I remember last night pulling off exit 161. We were like two kids. http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...ps4d5c8304.jpg Bad Ron Meyers like his Bling http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...ps39a0aa3b.jpg We thought about it....... Really we did. The girl in the fieworks shop wanted to come out side and watch the show. She was stoked when we put the Bling on the 68. Her ex boyfriend must have had a Camaro. She was all "hell ya" http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...ps2ae5e5ce.jpg We made it up the road to Blairs where of course we were welcomed in for "stay as long as you want, sit down, want something to drink" Look being part of this site of hanging out at any of the car events is partly about lvoing the cars and the adrenaline. The other part is the people. I dind't really know Ron and Payton but they are great people and meeting and hangin out with them was really a highlight of this trip. Same goes for Blair. He is a great guy but Dave is right he is my idol. Hey 15+ year ago he got T boned in a car and should have died. He came out fo it with two useless legs and now is in a chair. But did that stop him? Did it make him bitter? F no. The guy went out and built some hand controlls and taght himself to drive without legs. Then he went out and set some NHRA SS records in his CJ Mustang he built. So yes he is an insipration to me everytime I get a chance to hang out with him.:king: Last year Blair and I made a road trip from TN to Rodgers Minnesota to dyno my motor. He loves his road trips. This morning, I think it was this morning we started our day out right. Coffee. http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...ps83e79846.jpg We made it from Nashville to Memphis recording 7.5mpg. I'm claiming a rookie driver win on this one since I crushed daves average of 5.5-6.5 over the last few states. Pulled in and got some of the best fried chicken I've ever had. http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...ps02f45d60.jpg Anyway it's time to get back on the road. |
