New parts are on the way and it should be quick. It's just part of the process, but one that makes you go :confused59: for sure. LMAO |
I mentioned that the drip rails where trashed and would need replacing. Well we looked a little deeper and found that the roof skin was going to need replacing in addition. Doing so will be faster and less expensive than trying to patch or repair.
A new roof skin has already been picked up! There is a chance that some of the roof bracing will have to be replaced, but we won't know for sure till the skin is off. :underchair: :superhack: http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-C6ZP...-C6ZPnps-L.jpg http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-v4w4...-v4w4BMT-L.jpg http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-G4ts...-G4tsBDB-L.jpg http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-vWxv...-vWxv98S-L.jpg |

Uggg.... that's ugly fer sure :disgusted: Your are doing it right by replacing the offending parts and then you can sleep at night knowing it was done right! |
Curtis, any idea where this car spent most of it's life?

I think it was originally a soft top car....it's about to be a vert! LMAO Nah it's not really a big deal in my book. I fully expected to replace the floor and trunk pan. Kind of odd that it's the other way around, but whatever. Nothing is original these days and I'm not trying to keep it that way. |

The Victim
We have one of my buddies Panteras in my shop
that is from San Diego.. boy the rust that I can see on that car scares me... Kali don't mean anything Bob |
As nice as that car looked when you bought it I never would have thought that you were going to paint it, but I'm glad you went the route you did. l feel your pain, like a lot of people on this forum. I don't think you can ever truly trust someone you buy a car from whether complete or just a shell. I think anyone who is putting serious money into a project needs to go back start from nothing and have it blasted. Starting from square one is the only way to ensure you get a final product that you deserve after putting in all the work and money. It's frustrating as hell, but I'm sure it will be worth it in the end.

I'm guessing a magnet may be one of the best detectives.

If it gets hit the 26 year old lacquer paint job and body work could cause problems depending on the line the insurance company takes. :sieg: |

I'm seriously going to start with a Dynacorn next time. |

PS - You really should buy Jim a magnet. :D |

Better read the GPR thread on the Dynacorn mustang body --- only 600 hours to get it ready to paint... Just FYI if you think they're buy one, and paint it... https://lateral-g.net/forums/show...t=37578&page=8 |
I still think buying a complete driving car is the way to go...even if it needs some panel replacement. All the parts you can take off and sell to fund other parts. Also, all the needed little parts and pieces and hardware really add up! I bought a roller and was shocked at how many parts it was missing.
Curtis, as you know it's in very good hands! Don't be shy with posting pics! T |

These cars are now nearly a half century old. Definitely could be much worse like Mario's crusher.
I'll take the eight footer full of bondo so I can beat the living crap out of it. |

I hope to have a few more pictures next week. Quote:

Thinking "rust free" doesn't exist any longer, unless you buy a car that was properly restored in the first place. |
You're doing it right the 1st time. You'll be much happier with no worries

A set back, but it will be sweet when your done! I hope it's smooth sailing from now on.

The car has entered my favorite part of a build and is moving forward. I really dig seeing the progress.
What we found http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-Sjd4...-Sjd4k7H-L.jpg http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-G783...-G783hKh-L.jpg Jim repaired the lower rather than replace it. http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-jWzv...-jWzvdwP-L.jpg I like a "smooth" tail pan, so the seams where welded and filled. I hope this will give the car a cleaner look/vibe. http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-P3fC...-P3fCLPg-L.jpg http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-79mF...-79mFwms-L.jpg Getting there. Yes, I shaved the trunk lock. http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-X2nN...-X2nNBVP-L.jpg http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-4mW9...-4mW9b5d-L.jpg |

Overdue on updates here. Life has kept me busy recently but thankfully the car is in good hands and progressing. It seems a little weird that this is my car. I really didn't get to dive it much before we disassembled it and sent it off. In a way it's kind of like I don't have a car and I am watching someone another build. Pretty sure I'll just sit in the garage and stare once it makes it home.
The metal repair is finished and thankfully wasn't nearly as bad as it looked. She has a new roof, drip rails and few small patches. The body work has begun and it looks like my man started at the tail pan and is working his way forward. Pretty exciting time and my favorite part of any build. https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-...-MTzqnzg-M.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-...-fSwWPCH-L.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-...-zgsQZnW-L.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-...-d9tpXGp-L.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-...-qpvTQMf-L.jpg |
