You and me both, Scott. If things went differently, I'd already be racing this.

But it will happen. Talking to a few shops about doing it. So far, I like Vince at Mean Streets :)

Otherwise, it takes a while to make them and ship them here. They do great quality control, so some of the delay is them not shipping you the one crappy hood in the style you ordered they got from overseas.

Yep, that's what I understood the process to be. Just didn't want you to sit out for months more waiting on something if you weren't expecting it. Sounds like you have about all of their stuff, are you painting it or running it as CF?

Mind saying the vendor that might have things in stock for future reference haha?

I am doing some exposed carbon and most painted.

I don't think they're a vendor anymore.

We did make adjustable upper rear IRS arms. I figured since we had all the DSE lowers and we could suck the suspension in or out, that all links needed to move to create the perfect track alignment.

So, in comes my friend "Bullet" to make arms that should have been done in the first place. That is some sweet TIG, too.

Ben@SpeedTech 06-11-2015 09:56 AM

Cool! Anxious to see how this plays out... :popcorn2:

grendel 06-11-2015 10:11 AM

Some weight savings in the arms, too. Dropping about 100lbs.

Vince@Meanstreets 06-11-2015 10:29 AM

well that works!!

Vince@Meanstreets 06-23-2015 12:59 PM

Any updates?? :stirthepot: :superhack: :gitrdun:

Yer hilarious.

Vince knows that this thing's been sitting on a frame table, basically gutted. I got sick of it taking up valuable space and not making any progress.

So I cut it up.

It's in the dumpster.

I keed, I keed.

I cut the quarter off and stretched it 2". I ordered new quarters, wheel tubs and DSE mini tubs and I am building new inners.

Tobin at Kore also designed radial brackets to put a set of Baer 6P calipers on the Camaro IRS with Camaro hubs, rotors and knuckles

I bet someone wants pics?

waynieZ 06-23-2015 02:34 PM

Sorry you had to cut it up so far. The arms looks like he's doing a nice job on them. The adjustability is going to be helpful with tuning it in. That's going to be a nice brake set up.

Oh and I like pictures too.

haaa haaa oh man, you are in for it!!!! :catfight: haaaa looking good. not what I would have done but its ok. j/k

i wanna see a wheel in there JJ!

Ben@SpeedTech 06-24-2015 07:37 AM

I like where this is headed- Subtle and functional. :secret:

grendel 06-24-2015 11:09 AM

If anyone's interested, I am having upper front control arms made to clear the coils on the coil over.

I talked with a bunch of folks, suspension rub at any stage of the game is bad ju-ju.

Right now I'm really feeling that delay, a month after ordering I was told by Classic another 90 days... just in time for fall lol.

Car's looking awesome, really liking the stretch...

So, forward progress requires a few steps back. We braced the car, cut the quarter off and pushed the roof back up where it belongs. No more 1/2" drop. The quarter will be fitted with a trunk, filler plate and rear glass in place, so it all fits.

50+ hours into the shell so far. The other side is 2" wider and finished with metal work. We pulled the rocker out and I formed a buck for carbon fiber flares.

Installing the new DSE wheel tub was easy. It was barely welded on.

waynieZ 07-11-2015 08:38 PM

Glad to hear your making progress. Looking forward to seeing the rear quarter panel stretch when its done.

Vince@Meanstreets 07-11-2015 11:51 PM

good you catched all of that. doing it right

Im glad you guys are digging into it. Lets see the rockers. :welder:

Just read through this whole thread when I should be out working! Very cool build. Way past the scope of what I can do, but inspiration nonetheless. haha

Sucks redoing work...but I'm glad it's back on track. I'm actually redoing some hack jobs on car...some from the previous owner and some from myself when I was 19 years old. (My shifter and ebrake setup being one of them) haha

In this pic after the Lizard Skin you can see the box I made to close out the shifter and serve as one of the 4th-gen console mounts. You can barely see the hole in the tunnel for the ebrake cable pass through too.

I'm glad to see that DSE setup fits under the fender too. I did the same relocation when I smoothed my firewall but took the cheap stock wiper route for now. That DSE would be a nice upgrade as the budget allows.

Anyone want this project for cheap?

I am starting to hate it, as it's 3 steps back to one forward.

I've lost that loving feeling.

I was supposed to race this, this year. Instead, the 2015 Z06 and my Black GMC went.

I'll take PM's before I post it up.

Build-It-Break-it 08-11-2015 11:28 AM

I pm'd you JJ. But I think you shouldn't give up. Don't let the car defeat you. Take a step back and put it aside. There's really no deadlines to meet besides the ones in your own mind. Things will fall into place if you allow them to.

I am not defeated. I can build the car. I just don't want to.

Most gear heads emotionally invest in their cars. I am negatively invested.

Instead of working on this, or paying someone to work on this, I'd rather drive/race my black GMC or the Z06 Vette.

waynieZ 08-11-2015 11:47 AM

Sorry to hear this JJ, its a sweet project.

Vince@Meanstreets 08-11-2015 01:02 PM

sometimes a bad experience can ruin the feel for a car. I don't blame you at all.

That is it. If I finish this, it would be called black betrayal. There is no good feeling in it left.

Sure, PM or email your number.

grendel 08-17-2015 06:18 AM

Since this project got borked, it's been sitting in my head.

All that said, I've been told by several buyers that it's value is compromised due to some of the issues that happened during the build. Those have been corrected, but perception is key in high dollar cars.

So I decided to roll it into the corner of the shop. I'll leave the for sale thread going.

I finished a 70 Trans Am that's really fun to drive, bought a race car stacker and now building a 1958 Diamond T semi with a big sleeper to pull it. Have a 475HP Catepillar big block and a 13 speed Road Ranger on Peterbuilt low air leaf suspension.

When the snow flies here, I will probably get back on this.

waynieZ 08-17-2015 06:56 AM

You need to post pictures of the new rig, and Trans Am.

I am not sure this is the place for the new rig pics :).

I may do a build thread on the TA, but it's not special. DSE stuff (should have gone that way with this), 9", LSA and 6L80E.

Please start a thread on your TA or at least post some pictures. It sounds like a great car.

waynieZ 08-17-2015 04:28 PM

Should be a fun car.

Double J, it would be terrible to see a build thread for your 70' T/A, with an LSA. You don't skimp on anything, and all those high dollar parts would make a really bad build up....

Being sarcastic here...
