Your efforts to include your boys is a great reminder to them that their Mom picked the right guy while also teaching them about true/great character. Great looking build! |

Just some thoughts off the top of my head as I'm definitely not in a position to know, and doubt if my never finished Malibu will ever be worthy of such consideration. I've never attempted to talk to anyone with company decals on their car about it ( like the big QA1 decals on the back of Mills Robinson's Camaro) as I feel it's between them and the company. I try to concentrate on the build and how things were done on the cars. |

As for your Malibu, keep forward progress, it'll be yours and you'll know all the effort that went into it, even if no one else does. My car's certainly not sponsor-worthy either but I'll still have a ball with it! Some of the coolest cars I've been around would've never won "best paint" or "cleanest engine compartment" Quote:
I love your car btw, one of these days I hope to see it in person! |
What finish do you think you will use on the tubing?

You may also consider using Cerakoat most gun shops do it and there are many colors to choose. Also turnaround should be relatively fast. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

:computer:[QUOTE=Gmachine1911;693154]Powder coat would definitely be great but I'll need to do something quick wit Power Tour coming up. I can't do the bare aluminum!

Here's a video of one of my runs from Goodguys Columbus. Had a blast running the course and got some much needed seat time. I did have some front inner fender rubbing goin on in the turns which affected my desire to push hard in the turns...didn't wanna completely chew up any tires or damage anything. With that in mind, I made some calls about wider inner fenders and turns out Anvil had some blemished carbon inners (gloss finish was scratched) that I was able to get a good deal on. They'll be here Tuesday so I'm looking forward to getting those swapped before the Optima Drive event at NCM in a few weeks.

Looks like it was fun.
We do however need to get a camera mount. Quote:

So I got these beauty's from the man in the brown truck today. Gotta say, I'm quite impressed with the quality. Since they were "blemished" I figured they'd have noticeable flaws, however, there was only one visible scratch and it was under the fender once installed.

Managed to get the driver side in this evening...

Those do look really nice. They make your engine bay pop, imho.

Factory vs Anvil...

Wow- those inners are awesome! Thanks for the pics, they're really helpful as I've been debating about getting a set myself.
|
How is the fit ?? Trimming required ?? Holes line up etc ?? Thx.

I also ordered some new door hinges and latch mechanisms today as I've noticed the door hinges have some play and they've been re-bushed enough times I wanna start fresh (plus they're missing the detent arm and springs so it's a PITA the work on it with the doors open). I'll probably wait til I get those parts in this week to hang the front fender back on and at least save myself some time on one side. Either way, gotta have it back together for the Driveautox event at NCM this weekend. |

Here's a good shot the shows the shape of the inners...

So I got the Anvil inner fenders installed and I must say, I quite happy with them. It's not a simple drop in but the overall fit is quite good. When I did the driver's side, I jumped the gun on thinking I had to re-drill some holes to get the alignment right but after moving to the passenger side, things went quite smooth. After completing that side, I went back to the driver's side with some newfound knowledge and readjusted everything and all the holes lined up quite nicely.
If I had to give someone advice on these I'd say to take your time and don't get in a rush to re-drill any holes. I did have to trim the inner opening at the back of the upper control arms on both side for clearance but nothing major. The additional clearance these things have at the outer wheel opening is crazy, they basically turn straight up from the mounting flange I finished prepping it for the Drive Autox event tomorrow and took it for a spin. No craziness but with some hard 90° turns and softer shock settings, there's no rubbing so far. I'll know for sure after tomorrow! Here's a pic of the finished product. :knokwood: |

https://youtu.be/eVVXY-GdkmM Here's some footage from the Optima DriveAutoX event at NCM. Drove the car down 2.5 hrs, thrashed on it all day and drove it home. Happy to report there were no issues. The car is definitely more capable then the driver at this point but I'm learning quickly how much I can push and where the limitations are. For anyone wondering, the DriveAutoX events offer excellent bang for your buck. They're cheap compared to other Optima events and the seat time at NCM was ridiculous! There were only 35 cars there and they start you while the previous car is finishing up so things move at a brisk pace. I lost track of how many runs I got, but it was aprox 13-14...that was just Saturday! The atmosphere was great and the focus was on having fun and driving. Everything was well organized as well and they had volunteers working the track so no one had to shag cones, etc. It was the perfect setup for someone like myself who needs seat time. If one is scheduled close to you, it's worth checking out! |

Quick question, What hydraulic system are you using? i remember you told me at first you used the American powertrain hydramax setup but then went with something else. |

The little details are what matter the most. You definitely have an eye for it. Another question, the shifter you are using is that an 8, 10, or 12-inch shifter? Thanks |

Had a great time at Holley LS Fest last weekend. I didn't realize there were limited spots for the autocross so I missed out on that, however, it was still a blast with perfect weather and great scenery. Couldn't help but snap a few shots...

So hit up the home-town car show with my Dad this weekend. As you can see, he's got a lot more Power Tours under his belt then I do!

After several long road trips, it's become apparent that a center console was a much needed addition...for both storage and a need for cup holders! Since my interior is mostly stock appearing and I like the looks of the factory console, I wanted to go that route. I raised the transmission tunnel quite a bit to gain clearance for the T56 so with the help of some folks on here sending me console dimensions I was able to summarize that it'd be close enough I could probably make it fit.
Anyway, I ordered up a console kit which arrived yesterday and went to work. I actually didn't have to cut it as much as I expected and I'm happy with the fit and appearance. I still have to do something with the wood grain, either paint it black or thought about having the parts hydro dipped to look like carbon fiber. My question is, now that I've got storage, I'd love to integrate some cup holders somehow but there's just no good place to do it. It's not a big deal except during longer road trips so I thought about 3D printing an insert that'd drop in where the factory seat belt buckle holders would be that would hold a couple of drinks. Then, when parked or not needed, can be pulled out and stowed away. Anywho, here's a pic of it mocked up, just ignore the wood grain! |
Looks perfect!
I'm also trying to locate some cup holders, I like your idea of 3D printing some. If you are going that far and intend to only use them sometimes, what about doing individual ones and making them so they hang on to the side of the center console just in front of the front edge of the seat? Might be a way to make them so they flow nicely and be mostly out of the way of your legs. Might be easy to store 2 smaller parts than one big part, when not in use? Might be easier access to the cocktail in that location vs. the seatbelt spot? I've sort of started my design and I'm trying to fit them in that location. Agreed, little real-estate here! |

I’ve seen guys recess a boat style stainless cup holder into the console lid. One guy cut foam that held a cup and placed it in the console.
Cup holder is the reason I like the newer consoles. |

Finally got some spare time this weekend to get the console wrapped up. Let me just say, those console ash tray lid springs suck! Anyway, here it is assembled...
