Dan Gurney's AAR relocated the motor/Hewland one inch lower in the chassis when they first acquired the car to lower the center of gravity.....it had no detectable benefit, possibly upset the roll center.

The car had a nasty shunt at Sears Point raceway in 2008 (?) during an open test day.......miscommunication with a Porsche re pit entry protocol.
I repaired the nose box, radiator and fiberglass bodywork (front and rear sections). The car had no strakes on the fenders at that time so I think the images are more recent.
Wheels are AAR in-house design.

Fun fact.....MxA denotes the factory built McLaren team cars......MxB denotes customer cars built by a subcontractor, Trojan Cars....they built approx 200 McLarens from 1965 thru early 70's. Generally, the factory team cars had raw aluminum tubs whereas the Trojan built tubs were painted battleship gray cos it covers blemishes made during construction. Building a raw tub is an extremely fastidious job because of the drilling/adhesive/solid rivet process, and inaccessible spaces in the tub.

Old skool...like like just a chassis away from being a ‘5 tool’ car. ;)
