In June our vice president ,Ed Welburn asked my boss Tom Peters to look an alternative to the design being done at our north building.Tom thought that the 69 is an icon all to itself.He thought the new design need to be an all fresh statement.Think about it.You can go out and buy a new repro shell and build a old new car.The new design had to be something fresh to todays proportions and a new design by its self.Try and look at the car with out thinking of the old.Ill bet ya Fords next Mustang wont be retro!!!!! I have not seen the challenger.But from what people have told me its a very large and bulky car.The camaro is a much smaller and better proportion car.Isnt this what people like us have always wanted,a smaller bodied car with a big engine.Long live the pony car. Chris, you guys did an awesome job. When I first saw it, my gut reaction was that I liked it a lot but it didn't rock my world. However, now I find that the more l look at it the more I love it. It really is everything I had hoped for. It's aggressive, oozes testosterone, has many design cues from the 1st Gens, and looks like it's going 100mph sitting still.
The only part that concerns me is how it will look with realistic sized wheels, we all know it's not going to roll on 22's. I can see 18's or perhaps 19's like the C6, but I doubt the General will go with anything bigger. On a side note, the Buick Enclave is fantastic. I'd definitely put the family in that! |
Scott, Thank for the good words.The wheel size is always a tough one.When you have really no borders you look for the largest wheel you can apply to a design.For sure on a concept car.
The design was suposed to be done in 3 weeks,turned out to be 4.Some of the ideas could have spent more time under refinment.The original model had been working for months.I believe 9.Maybe less. During our crash and burn month we kept a song playing on the radio in the basement.A song Groove Armada called "I see you baby" this became our theme song for the car. Must say I had a blast during this project.Lots of stress.But the best part was the great team of people that I was able to work with. Sang Yup Steve K Vlad S Greg S Steve K Roman L Brian N Pam B Jerry P Andy C Ray H But most of all Tom Peters.What a fun man to work with.When he walked in the room the energy level rose 3 notches.He is very inspiring and appreciates the efforts made.
