Oh yeah buddy! Here's a second post of a shortened video with A LOT better line, and speeds... from the second day. I'm running Yellow group (Novice) and the first two laps are warm up.... Figure 2:30ish per lap so faster laps (2:15's Charley said) start at 5 minutes into this video if you want to just forward to that point. GPS data is missing from this video because of posting it to YouTube instead of the Contour website... I have yet to figure out how to shorten (edit) the video before posting to the Contour site so chose the YouTube format because this video had 15 minutes of sitting in the staging lane!). Final laps showed top speeds of 112 to as high as 117 going into turns 1 and 14. CHARLEY -- Note the corrected moniker! |
Great videos Greg, looks like a lot of fun!

That is the track we need to have a Pro-Touring event at. Great track for a novice to get their feet wet. Watch the video and see all the runoff room if you do something stupid.

Greg, that Bondurant school paid off eh? Not too shabby out there... great improvement. Musta felt great!

Spring Mountain is more track time - but less "learning". Also less $$ but you get what you pay for. IMHO -- ANYONE wanting to drive this stuff -- should spend less on parts and more on lessons.... THEN buy parts... I SUCK.... but I can and will get better. That is the fun of it. RE: Improvement #1 had to learn Jerico tranny #2 had to remember to breathe #3 had to remember to think #4 had to remember to LOOK AHEAD #5 had to SLOW DOWN to drive faster #6 remember to bring extra shorts #7 remember to not let Charley see you screw up.... :woot: |
Looking good, should've bought a real car. A Camaro of course.
|
Greg, looks like you had some fun, that is the important thing. Was going to try and get up there to see you, but unfortunately didnt make it.
Congrats on your purchase. |

Sorry I couldn't work out having dinner with you and Laura... the timing just didn't fit this time. The '32 is at Brizios -- so unless I talk Charley into fetching it for me --- I'll have to come back down "shortly". |
trailer tires seem to do that to you when you least expect it....oh and remember when charley tells you to "go out and hit the pace car" shake your head and just ignore him. LOL

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ I got in trouble with the race steward a couple of time during the weekend... and Charley warned me that I would! They had to remind me - nicely - that I was in YELLOW PANTS GROUP.... in one session I was "making people nervous".... Okay -- I get that.... some of these guys/gals were on track doing about 40 in the straights... Here I come around the corner and its "punch it! I know the road"! (LOL).... and I go flying by them WOT.... I needed to "tip toe" around them... My bad! I forgot I was on a track... you know - for race cars.... BUT they were RIGHT..... I was still in the YELLOW PANTS and GREEN HARNESS group... ^^^^^^ Not sure how I'd move up to Red group.... unless I could show that I can drive accordingly... and the Red group ain't doing 40 in the straights... And the steward did ask me to move up if I wanted to -- I just was having too much fun in Yellow because I had the track to myself a lot of the time... and could spend more time on the line - and braking - and shifting etc without "traffic". My final session I did an off road at Stielow corner... all four in the dirt... Turn 5 sweeping right and is the down hill side of 5A which is an uphill hard left with a downhill blind right... After a dicing drive with an instructor in his late model Mustang... he came over to me at the beginning of this session and gave me some pointers about where I should place my tires on a couple of the turns to gain time... He wanted me to be more to the right side of the track on 5 after clipping 5A... (I was taking it more to the middle).... So I tried to come off 5A "straighter" to clip the curb on 5... EXCEPT I put the right front in the dirt.... which grabbed and brought the ass around and rather than spin - I straightened her up and just cut the corner rather than try to gather it up. They had actually talked about that in the driver meeting -- to not try to do any "heroics" once you're in the dirt.... and I remembered that -- and it worked... The dirt is very soft -- and once I felt the ass get loose - I just straightened it out and cut the corner - got back on track - slowed down - cleaned the tires around the next couple turns.... THEN I got black flagged (again)... and had to come in and explain myself and rightly so. |
