Remember that the bars - or ANYTHING you weld - will move as you heat and cool... so use spacers to hold the bars side to side.. and don't forget to clamp!

Many "beginning" welders - self taught especially - fail to understand the importance of clamping... and then can't get why their stuff isn't the same as the pro.

I've seen these grills being made at Dan Finks -- and the entire thing is in a FIXTURE.

Put in a fixture. Didn't Rodger teach you anything?!? :lol:

Spacers, shims, safety wire, zip ties, and clamps..........and no fricken talent. Not a good combination. :D

I tried a couple bars last night, between the small tight 90* angle, contamination and metal movement it's a "slight" challenge that may be passed on to another hero. :yes:

If it was easy... the fat chicks could do it!


Welding really is far harder than most people think. As you've found out - the angles - the set up - the different metallurgy. Wait til you need to make a perfect weld upside-down and left handed. :thumbsup:

I have been wanting to get a Tig welder and I have been eyeing that HTP Invertig 221. Just wanted to get your thoughts on it after having it awhile. Would you still buy one today? Anything you would of done differently?

The machine is still doing fine, purchasing it as a total newbie to TIG welding the manual/documentation/instruction was and still is weak IMO, especially compared to Miller. That's really my only complaint.

The machine has performed well and USAWeld.com has provided very good support and consumables service. If I had to do it over again as a newbie, Miller would probably be my choice due to their knowledge resources for the beginner/hobbyist. Now, with some experience it would be a tougher decision due to price separation. :thumbsup:

I don't know anything about that machine but I do love my Miller Syncrowave 210 TIG MIG Spoolmate 150 Package. It can be a Tig, Mig, and stick welder. out of all of the welders that I have used over the years this one is in the top 2. It has adjustable frequency and a built in pulser. It can weld aluminum and steel materials.

for the cost of the one you are looking at I recommend checking out this Miller its only slightly more expensive but to me it would be worth it.
