Cris,

Thanx for the picture. I think I can actually see why the Vette does make downforce on the corners. It almost looks like the curve rolls down before it attaches to the splitter.

But looking at the piece on the Camaro, at the angles of the pictures at least, it doesn't look like that piece in front of the tire angles back down before where it will attach. It's hard to tell without it all assembled though.

Not trying to be critical, just wanting to learn.

Thanx!

Bryan- Its all good.. I am in a big learning curve right now myself with what I am doing on this spoiler..

Earlier I got off the phone with Ben Hermance & we were discussing the difference between new cars vs. old.. The newer cars have boxier look on the bottoms or squared off that it makes it difficult to mess with classic lines of Muscle cars.. Today I was thinking how a Camaro would like with a nose cone like the one Mopar did with the Daytona.. LOL! No matter what we do.. We have a challenge..

What I spent looking @ this weekend was different configurations of spoiler designs.. The one that kept popping up was the one they did for 70 & up Trans Ams that would conform to the way the 68 Camaro was designed on the fender extensions to the lower valance.. Take into consideration that we cut up the fender extension so that it would square up a bit instead of radius in so sharp.. This is how I see things in my head.. If I can keep the air away from hitting or deflect it away the front tire it will create less drag.. the front fender extension for the spoiler or tire deflector.. don’t have a firm name for it yet.. It is made of two pcs.. where it mounts on the wheel well opening it is flat with a radius.. the front side is has an angle so that when the air hits it .. it tries to find a way to deflect or push it out to the sides.. I tried to capture a picture of it but it is not being very photogenic.. let me get further with some more fabrication.. try to envision a spoiler extension on a Trans Am.. That is how we did it but with a twist to it..

In the end .. will it work? I hope so or at least help it some.. Maybe we can get Marty to spring for some wind tunnel time!

A friend of mine called me earlier & said the corners looked like something out of the Batmobile... So here it is with a radius @ the bottom corner..

Looks like an over sized 78 Trans Am spoiler and wheel flairs.

Cris, I would like to see your car with front spoiler, vs a stock camaro in the wind tunnell, I am workin on 69 also and thought of trying to incorporate newer technology into the old one. Like you said the body shapes are so different, Look at the bottom of a dodge viper sometime they have a plate that covers the bottom of the car that helps control airflow. Also the vette pics I read once that the rear spoiler puts 1000 lbs on the rear of the viper. I am not a big fan of the big spoiler on the back but that would make a big difference in the 50/50 weight, anyway looks good keep after it you will get it!

Thanks Blake! thinking about doing it to all four corners of the car.. what you think? you got a good eye for this stuff

I like the look

Do you plan on putting a splitter on it as well or leaving as is?

Cris@JCG 01-08-2013 02:41 PM

We are doing a splitter for it too! here is what it is looking like so far... Plus Carl Casnova came in today to look @ the design & give us some ideas for some testing...
