RS Tour

So I had a few moments while in the general area and made a call to go visit the Roadster Shop. Always respected these guys and the beautiful work they turned out but really had no idea what I was in for….

Rob called it a candy store. He’s right. More like a Disneyland for carnuts. This place is like no other hotrod shop I’ve ever seen. 25 employees, all of them busy. Probably 20+ builds going on. Each one, more creative than the last. A couple of top secret, no pics allowed as well. Wait till you see ‘em.

You walk in, this is in the showroom. I’d love to own this car. I’d build it and leave it in bare metal:

http://i885.photobucket.com/albums/a...-14-01_692.jpg

Here’s where the magic happens:

http://i885.photobucket.com/albums/a...-40-34_163.jpg

Ron in SoCal 10-25-2012 08:44 PM

Remember that wall of car bodies waiting to be built? Well, they’re past that now. No room for shells. Too many frames to be built, assembled and shipped.

http://i885.photobucket.com/albums/a...-41-29_512.jpg

I’ve seen the display frames many times at shows since they came out. Maybe it’s just me, but the finished product just does not compare to what I l saw/observed from in-process stuff (I’m sick, I know). If you saw it in person you’d know. From the rails, to the bushings, to the control arms.

They're serious dudes. Phil, Dad, etc. I've seen them many times before before but they didn't have time to talk I guess.

Sieg 10-25-2012 09:12 PM

Thanks for the tour Ron, I've always admired the cars and products they turn out. How was the atmosphere in the work place?

Rob, congrats the Torino is looking good, stay the course with the plain Jane exterior.

Thanks for the props on my Ugly Duckling Ron.:D

Like Ron says you have to see the shop to really understand. Beyond the craftsmanship as a paying customer I appreciate the way Phil and Jeremy conduct business.

They're living the lifestyle. That many projects, that much success...it's not for ametuers. They got where they did by keeping their eye on the ball.

I was only there for an hour. That's all the time I had before I had to trek back to my real world. Every work station the guys said hi. They instantly knew I was a fan. I'd guess they appreciate when someone comes in who knows what they're lookin at and smiles...:D

Ripped 10-25-2012 09:22 PM

Holy cr*p, what a cool shop!

Nothing says retro, like a starsky and hutch stripe! A little brighter red, on your car.

Just get a curly haired wig, it will work... trust me!

This is what they turn your '69 Camaro in to if you don't pay your bill on time!

The best compliment you can pay a true craftsman is appreciating his work.

Nice to hear that the concept appears to be alive and well there, all the more respect for the business.

They are talented but even they can't make a Camaro look that good.:unibrow:

If the bill goes unpaid they slap a set of Intros with wheelocks on it. :willy:

Roadster Shop 10-26-2012 07:21 AM

Ron, Much thanks for your great review of the shop! I really appreciate your kind words about what we are doing here. The guys in back definitely appreciate when someone is impressed with their work. I will be sure to pass on your comments to everyone in the shop.

I wish I had known that you were going to be here. I would have definitely liked to spend some time with you. I was busy most of the morning with another potential customer going over a pretty cool mustang project. (Don't worry Rob, this one will have a Ford motor in it. Funny story, his first car was a 69 Torino and was shocked to see one getting the PT treatment.)

Thanks again Ron for posting up the pics and your impression of our facility.

-Phil

Ron,
Thanks for stopping by the Roadster Shop to meet with me. I appreciate your taking time and going out of your way to see us. It was fun showing you around the chassis operation and some of the builds we have in the works.
Thank you for the kind words and post… I look forward to seeing you at an event soon.

Ok, You asked.

Rob thinking to himself - Note to self, don't let Phil, Jeremy, or Tony be my stand in when it comes to seat placement fit up in my Torino. This would fit perfect if I was Greg Weld.

:D :D :D :D :D

skatinjay27 10-26-2012 02:07 PM

haha! my sentiment also^^^^

I was thinking "so thats why he has big boat"

Vegas69 10-26-2012 06:25 PM

Why do I always have to be so different? :D

Why couldn't I have been born short and stocky with a 32 Ford like Greg Weld?

Yes you see you and I we suffer from the same curse, well the grass can always be greener. I'm sure GW wonders what's on top of refrigerators. I'd hate to think of what it would be like to be Shaqs height.

Close Todd..........

I've been wondering when this shot would surface.:_paranoid

Let me help you guys out with what I was thinking.

"wow this is why I have sh:censored: tty clothes nothing stylish ever fits me right"

"My knees hit the seats on the plane, my feet hang of the end of the bed at the hotel, my head touches the headliner inthe crappy rental car, ET TU Camaro?"

"hmmm these seats are as comfortable as they look but is sitting in them worth the crap I'm gonna get for those pictures he's taking"

"The state line isn't that far this baby could be mine... Throw the LS on CL and build me a stroked windsor with CHI heads for this thing that would be the best"
