Great updates Wayne. She's looking good.
Hope it comes home soon. |
Nice job!
|
Wow Wayne. Pretty metal work...
|
Very very nice Wayne. Any updates on a shipping date?
|
WAYNE ITS ALMOST AUGUST!!!!:_paranoid
|
I hear Ya! I'm calling Monday to see whats up. I sent an e mail Friday asking where he is getting the axles from. They should be there by now.
Another summer shot! |
That body is going to be better than new.

Boss Weld taught me everything I know.... |
I'm about to jump on this band wagon Wayne. You need to get it home no matter what is on back order. This is just completely unacceptable in my book. I don't care how good the work is, after this long it should be the "Best in the Universe". Go get it! :fire:
|
I called and talked to him Monday. The axles are in and he said he would be putting the rear together this past Tuesday. He's supposed to be calling me next Wednesday to schedule a pick up for either the weekend or early next week.... I didn't post it because i was given so many different dates already. The only thing he had left was install the rear, bolt on the front sub and gap the front sheet metal. If its not ready next week I'm telling him I'll take it like it is.
|
Way to go Wayne! My post above was meant with all respect to you. I just feel for man...
Get some pics when the car is loaded up! |
No problem Ron and Chad Your right. About five years ago my doctor told me to mellow out or I was going to blow a gasket. I think I did too good of a job. I've done my best to be patient and being part of Lat g has help me through some aggravating times, and I'm definitely ready for the car to come home now.
I called this morning to see how the progress is going. |
I definitely didn't want to stir you up in a bad way. You have been more patient than 99% of us would have been, for that you should be commended. That being said, I don't really want you to get it for you, I want you to get for us! We need more pictures and build stories! Stop thinking of yourself all the time! I'm pullin for yah!
|
Wayne, just tell him you will be there with your trailer on a certain date. And do it!!! I mean, the guy has done an outstanding job, that body is much, much better than new. But if you don't firm up a date it will just keep on going like it has. Show up there with a trailer and load up your car and get on with it.
|
Hang in there Wayne. I want it home for you just as much as everyone else does. But don't get the blood pressure up too much. Do what you feel is best for your situation. Everyone is behind you and wants whats best for you.

Hopefully when you deal with the painter, interior guy, etc. you will have better luck. I can tell you from personal experience they will all put your patience through the ringer. One good thing though it looks like the body will out last us all when you get it back. |
Atleast my painter is 4 block away from the house. I'll be there like one of his employees. lol If I fall out my front door I'll roll right down the hill to his shop.
|
Wayne, I'll feel for you. I've been in your shoes and my painter was only a couple miles away. I did a great deal of the body work getting it ready for my body and paint guy and just wanted him to dial it in and paint it. Well after 2 years and about four times the original bid(don't even want to disclose that amount, it's embarrassing) I told him no more $ and gave him a date I was going to pick it up. Kept my end of the bargain, showed up with a trailer and a bunch of friends, gathered my goods (unfinished but close) and took it home. He wasn't happy about it but it sure felt good to get it home and work on it at my pace and not pay any more falsified funding charges. He did good work but the lying I couldn't take anymore. Mike sounds like a good guy and looks like he knows what he's doing, but you can only take so much. I've been pulling for you and hope it all works out in the end. Best of luck:thumbsup:
|
Thanks Lenie I appreciate it. The guy who's going to paint my car is a friend for the last almost 40 years. He was the guy everyone went to for custom work. He still always has a few Vettes at the shop. Every time I think of a different color he drags out the color charts for me and we look them over.
I can't wait until I get that close and have to pick a final color! |
Just getting caught up on this thread, the body looks outstanding Wayne. You must be positively itching to get that thing home!!
|
Got my fingers crossed for you Wayne.
Greg |
Thanks Greg!
|
I haven't been in this thread for a while, but in the middle of June it was only a week away? WTF?!?!?!
I don't care how good someone's work is, it can't make up for all the other B.S. I would expect a SUBSTANTIAL price break for being put on the back burner so many times. Hope you go get your car soon:thumbsup: |
wow that is BS too much patience wayne go get your car at what ever stage is in. the guy does agreat job but he has completely taken you for a ride. no type of quality of work is worth the pain , anger and suspense you are going through. we will all like to see you enjoy this car.
I been there like many of you , my first project (64 chevelle ) gave me all my gray hair . I went through three body shops and was not half way pleased with any finally a buddy of painted it out of his back yard and got it right. that is why im going to do all my work on my camaro well all except for paint good luck wayne ITS TIME FOR ACTION Mann Im pissed for you |
Not to get you pissed off
but no way were the axles wrong or took that long to get. He used that as an excuse to stretch you out even more. I know Currie or Moser would ship axles within in a few days. I had a custom floater with axles built by Moser. Ordered it on Tues and they shipped it Wed and it was recieved Friday the same week.
I am sorry that you are having to deal with this guy. If you need help loading the car let me know. |
TJ ,frankv11 Thanks He's doing all the stuff I had left including getting it ready for paint on his dime.
Payton Thanks for the offer. I talked to Mike this morning and told him I will be there the weekend of Aug 27th to get the car and my left over parts. Its going to be tight, I'm using an open U Haul trailer and my 2 door Tahoe. But I'll manage. |

Thanks Ryan I appreciate it.

Alright Wayne! I bet it feels good to have a firm date and to have taken back some control of your project?
|
sensational news Wayne, I can't wait to see the pictures.
Greg |
Good luck and be safe Wayne.
It must feel good to know the car is coming home this month! |
Love the attention to detail. Very, very nice job. Looks great man!

I talked to my buddy Buster ( he's my travelin buddy I drag him everywhere ) and we figured the best way for us to do it is we'll leave on Thursday night about 9pm with the trailer to avoid traffic. That will get us to MCC at about 11am Friday. Then I'll ask Mike if I can leave the trailer there and either load it that day or Feiday, and pick it up Saturday morning so we can get some sleep for the drive home. its almost 15 hour drive and thats without stopping to eat or stoping to use the head, this way he has plenty of time to finish what he needs to do. Waiting for the axles and assemble rear and install in car. Install sub frame and front sheet metal which has already been fit. Paint my glove box door and ashtray Get all my extra parts together. and I think thats it. |
Sounds like a great plan Wayne. I hope it all goes smoothly for you.
|
Wayne, your build looks great. Keep moving forward.
What do you plan on using in the area where your quarters meet the roof? |
Thanks
When Mike finishes welding them up there's not much left to do but he is the one getting it ready for paint so I'm not sure what he uses. I would guess its just filler. |
Lookin' good! Keep the pics coming
|
I talked to Mike today and discussed about when I get there Friday the 26th I'll either leave the trailer there and get a room for some sleep and load it Saturday or if I get there early enough load it and lock it up there and get the room and meet Mike Saturday to hook up and leave for home.
I'm going to use a U Haul open trailer because I don't have access to one thats enclosed. I'm not too crazy about that. The bottom is finish painted and the center of the trailer is open to the road. I'm thinking of trying to put something across the opening to protect the bottom of the car. I was thinking maybe some plywood with 2x4"s screwed together pinching the trailer ramps. Any one have any ideas???? |
That's awesome she is finally coming home with you Wayne. I bet you cannot wait to see it in person and finally pick it up. If I was still out of work, I would gladly go down with you, if you wanted the company/help, that is.
Good luck bud! |
That's great Wayne! Personally I'd load up on the day I was leaving, just so thieves can't pull up the night before and hook up.
Also just a thought, 3m makes a sticky, peelable plastic you might want to use on the bottom of the car for the trip home. It'll protect against road grime/grease and minor debris. Bring her home safe brother! |
