well the old shocks had some internal issues and were not working properly, I ordered the SA ridetechs last week and they showed up today. So of course the first thing I do is put them on the car.

such a noticeable difference and I haven't left the garage yet. The quality on the ridetechs are second to none. I can see the engineering thought that went into theses and that makes me smile.

now for pics:

old ones came out:

I am reusing the springs at a rate of 225lb. Change one thing at a time and tune from there.

I am also adding a catch can to the breather system.

This car is sooooo tight to work on, everything just fits.

I think I would have been tempted to install it upside down for easier access to the adjuster knob. Would there be an issue with that?

Ron in SoCal 07-30-2013 09:26 AM

Bryce - man you make single adjustables look good. Fantastic job on the whole car!

The body of the shock did not have enough clearance with the upper bracket. Plus the stickers are the right side up now. Also the shock shaft is a little more protected being up higher. I can still reach the know easily.

Thanks Ron, ridetech made it easy. I may upgrade to triples next year.

Nice upgrades Bryce!

Bryce 08-05-2013 07:11 AM

Took the falcon the autocross today. I did okay. Still way too much body lean. I think I was lifting the inside rear tire. The stiffer springs and sway bar and shocks helped. It allowed to go faster around the turns but the increased lateral-g increased the body roll. Time for new springs on all 4 corners and a 1/4" wall thickness sway bar. That is an advantage of the splined sway bar. Quick change!!! I will get video and pictures up later tonight.

I also need a jack Roush hat, my floppy hat was just not cutting it.

ROUSH = :thumbsup:

Here you go guys. Not my best work, but wanted to get something up before going out of town.

Here is a video that mark took.

Bryce 08-15-2013 09:18 PM

A quick review of the last autocross:

The ridetech shocks are awesome and I found out I can get them too stiff. This is a good thing for tuning.

But I have a lot of body lean. So I ordered some new parts.
http://media.motortopia.com/files/21...-08-08-219.jpg
Splined sway bar 33% stiffer than the old one.

I ordered it uncoated (black zinc) so that I would get it on time.
http://media.motortopia.com/files/21...-08-10-226.jpg
So I coated it with this. It puts on a light clear film and last 2 years.

Out with the old
http://media.motortopia.com/files/21...-08-12-229.jpg

New spring stack on the left.
http://media.motortopia.com/files/21...-08-13-230.jpg

Assembled with the 25lb take up spring and the new 500lb springs.

Installed:

First test drive will be tonight.

Looks great Bryce. Love seeing you out wheeling it a lot!

here is my fastest lap 45.154

mexMan 08-24-2013 10:09 AM

I don't mean to be rude but it kinda looks like it still has a lot of lean, have you thought about lowering the center of gravity (thecar) or getting harder shocks? Just a suggestion, anyway, your car gives me the hots.

Tomswheels 08-24-2013 05:26 PM

A Mopar guy who thinks you have too much lean?:confused59:

Rick D 08-24-2013 05:43 PM

Bryce you said RideTech shocks but you installed Afcos?? :poke: Great to see you out getting faster and faster!!

I agree. I raised the rear roll center to shorten the roll couple and stiffen up the rear of the car to reduce body roll. I installed a stiffer front sway bar and stiffer front springs. and I lowered the car 1" in the front and .5" in the back. This all helped...

Now I will be lowering the rear roll center and increasing the rear spring rate. and adding power steering.

Rick, I have had afcos on the front for 6 years now. I like them. Those new pics are showing the take up springs I added so that I could got to a much stiffer front spring without building droop limiters. I took out the TCI shocks out of the rear 2 races ago and added the ridetech SA. TCI is rebuilding the shocks and I will be using them as a backup or on another project.

Bryce,

So what's the next upgrade for your hot rod?

and some stiffer rear springs and take up springs.

Gotcha.

What is the objective with running take up springs?

The shocks are a 4" stroke. I set them up at ride height with 2" in either direction. The current setup is 225 lb springs my preload is zero at full extension. If I go to a stiffer spring and keep the same 2" travel in both directions I will have no preload at full extension. to keep the spring seated at full droop (which my car sees when autocrossing) I need the take up springs.

Always loved those cars.

love the work you've done.

I have had a 64, and a 65, but that was over 30 years ago.

Any chance Ill get to see this beast running free Sunday at the Q?:confused18:

Bryce 09-24-2013 07:57 AM

I got a new prototype part from my buddy. This should help the falcon weigh under 2700lbs.
