I'll get those pictures up for you . I have to get everthing cleared out of the car it looks like a war zone right now.. You should stop down when you get a chance....

Ryan. I had a real hard time with it at first. I just don't have enough hours in the day to learn the fab skills needed to do the job right. And thats the tig welding end . Everthing I have ever done I tought my self . From painting (witch is my favorite) frame, mechanical I never had one class. My first class ever would have been at IRON WORKS for the tig welding but it just didn't work out. But even if IRON WORKS did have the class and got me up to speed it still comes down to TIME. BBT is going to keep things going forward and get me closer to completeing this project.

Unbelievable. You have pics. Looks good Mario, starting to take shape now. I don't know about going smoother now (not to rain on your parade), I think they fight you all the way.

Mario,
I have to give you some credit. Not many people here would think to ever turn there 69 camaro into a woodie. Can't wait to see the whole side of the car covered in wood, it will be unique thats for sure.

Special delivery from Cris at JCG! I had my guys take a ''fast run'' from Chicago to JCG in Oxnard,CA ! The 572 made it safely back but I can't say the same for my guys Dakota . Almost made it back but a deer jumped out in Iowa and done some pretty good damage . But everyone was okay and my plan to save money bringing two engines to Cris and bringing one back cost me $2800.00:faint: I think everyone knows this by now but I'll say it again its a pleasure dealing with Cris !!! A great person to do buisness with you couldn't ask for a nicer person!!!

waynieZ 12-03-2011 12:56 PM

Nice motor glad your guys and the motor came back safe. Sucks about the Dakota.

What's an old man like you going to do with 620 HP?!?!?

EEEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAA

DFRESH 12-03-2011 08:59 PM

Congrats Mario---glad to see progress being made. I think Todd may have been worried for a minute there about your 572 having more power than his 540. He already has some "Iron Works Cubic Inch Spray" on order--- Weld also ordered a case since 302 inches is bound to create some motor envy as well.

Well I took on a new bodyman and its allowing me time to get back on my car. I started the final body panel fitting to get everthing as close as I can for Troy to start gapping the car. And let me tell you Troy has his work cut out for him. As I said a million times before, this aftermarket stuff is absolute garbage and I'll keep saying it until this car is done!!!! I'll have to order about two 55 gallon drums of gap spray from Ironworks just to get the back half of this car done!! Take a look at these pictures and you'll see what I mean . And keep in mind this is about a day and a half of work to just get these gaps this close.. Picture 4 the bottom of the door overlaps the quarter about a 1/8 inch:wow: FUUUUUNNNNNN!!!!!!!!

bigtyme1 12-30-2011 10:10 AM

Don't worry touch Mario. My gaps were perfect and once I put some miles on it all the gaps seem to change a little. Glad to see we're back to work on it

Spiffav8 12-30-2011 03:41 PM

Lower you're expectations. Not only will you feel better, but you'll live longer. Just kidding!

Perfection takes time and I know you'll do it right, or you won't do it at all. Stoked to see things moving again.

GregWeld 12-30-2011 04:02 PM

Ya got to cut to cure!

I just love the sound of a body saw and the cut off wheel.... and the frying bacon sizzle of a finely tuned welder...

I don't no about perfection.. Mike and I are just tring to do everything right.I never had a car takin down this far, its been one huge learning experience thats for sure!!!!! This car will not be the caliber of Jasons car (WAR) I can tell you that. I'm just want the car to be clean and simple well detailed and well built thats my goal..

I here ya Greg. Sometimes you just have to make sure your cutting and sawing the right things off, not to creat more work for yourself. I have to take about a inch off the front of the rockers on each side . But before I did that I spent about two hours moving the doors around just to make sure that I wasn't making a mistake doing it. It's like one big chess game. If you make one move you have to look at everthing to make sure your not effecting something else..

Well I finally got the front end mounted !:willy: And as you might guess it was another battle. The right fender went on prtty much no problem . The left side was another story the front edge of the fender had a severe drop. After a couple of days I finally MADE it sit right! It's still not 100% but Troy will have no problem adjust the little more thats needed . I also will have to make new rocker panels . The aftermarket ones I installed are a complete disaster. But It does feel good to see it on four wheels thats for sure! I still have a long way to go but it has come a long way... I had a very interesting conversation with Cris (JCG) yesterday and he almost had me talked into a new direction with this project. I thought long and hard and I'm going to stay the course with this build but its still going to have alot of JCG influence I can tell you that!! 50 degress today felt good to get it out side!!

redfire69 01-06-2012 12:14 PM

Mario, looks good! These aftermarket panels will fight us all the way. How did you fix the drooping fender?

syborg tt 01-06-2012 12:17 PM

AWESOME to see it outside !!!!

67ragtp 01-06-2012 02:08 PM

Looking good Mario:thumbsup: looks like you could fit a steam roller back there, is that a mock up rear or the real deal? What width flange to flange, I know you got Mikes big bigger biggest inner wheel houses. Im jones'n to see that beast from the back with the fatty's on it.

Rich

I thought I could hear a lot of cussing and banging and parts kicking.... Now I know where it was coming from!!!

Ron I had to take about 7/16 of an inch out of the corner of the core support . That was the hieght difference from side to side , It made it better but still wasn't where it needed to be . So after about the 20th time taking it on and off the light bulb went off, hey dummy install the extensions and the lower valance!! It pushed it up the little extra It needed . Its just a tiny bit off now but Troy has to cut and slice the area any way for all the header and hood gaps. Then it will be perfect... I work with 3mm cars all day you can't cheat these cars. I get caught up doing the same with this car only thing is close enough was good enough for these cars back then and if it was't good shim it till it was!

Rich thats the rear end thats staying in the car 45.5 flange to flange..

Spiffav8 01-06-2012 02:44 PM

Dude a few little tweaks and that sucker is ready to go! ;) Keep at it and stay positive brother. It's going to drive you nutz now, but it's going to be SO AWESOME when it's done....and when it is, you and I are taking the cars out for a cruise!
