Got the car painted & assembled for RTTC... Here is a nice pic of the car @ testing & tuning Friday before we left to RTTC this past weekend... We had a blast with both cars out their.. The Mustang is working great but we hurt the engine on Saturday.. So I got the engine out & scrambling to get it fixed for SEMA/Optima.. It will be a crunch!

Here is a great action shot of me driving on the Auto-X.. Thanks Sean Haggai !

Good luck on getting it fixed Cris. Karl looked uper fast out there on Sunday in BB:thumbsup:

I still can't fathom how you integrated those steel spats into the urethane bumper cover and got it to look so seamless. I mean that's not a close up high fidelity picture but I can't tell there was any work there at all.
If you glued them on how did you cover the ridge of the metal piece ? Surely bondo doesn't work on the bumper cover, what did you use ?. Did you sink them into the bumper cover and then epoxy and cover them ?

I'm not trying to do anything like this, I'm just curious how that was done.

GregWeld 10-11-2012 08:42 PM

Carl has to be happy with that!

I have no idea how he did it, but after looking at it up close, it looks like it came from the factory like that.

I am. It's really close. But, if it had flares, 335s all the way around, and a LS. It would be PERFECT! :lateral:

Cris@JCG 10-13-2012 07:55 AM

I was looking for pics for this process but forgot to take some... We used 3M panel adhesive & pop rivits to hold both pcs together.. Sanded the both pcs together to blend them & finish it off with body filler... I was lucky that my body man had done this in the past with other cars..

It has been crazy here @ the shop trying to get the Mustang ready for Optima... We hurt the engine @ RTTC.. SO plan B was put into effect.. The new engine is making 605 hp with 540 tq @ the crank naturally aspirated.. also upgraded from a five speed to a 6 speed.. Plus alot more.. But the icing on the cake is the car on it's new Forgelines!

Got to tune the car, Put back on the PJ decals.. & hope we are ready!

Ok.. I can only keep this under wraps for so long... but I might as well let the cat out of the bag... Mast Motorsport 416 LS3 with a RPM Transmission Stage 5 Road race T56... Tonight we put in the 4.10 gears!

We did this LS conversion in 2 weeks... My crew was busting ass to get it done! We just felt that we would not have gotten the Ford motor rebuilt in time..

http://i1015.photobucket.com/albums/...ps84629285.jpg

Flash68 10-24-2012 10:48 AM

Now that is excellent. Love the bastardizing. :D

You got time for any road course shakedown down there?

Cris@JCG 10-24-2012 10:53 AM

Here are some pics of the set up stage... It is a good thing I have set up motors with T56 transmissions...

Special thanks to Chris Durate @ Mast Motorsports for getting me a engine & Jeremy @ RPM Transmission for getting key parts out ASAP..

Carl @ Vaporworks was a key player to the conversion.. He got the Ford fuel system to work for us! & Ken Whitney my wiring guy!

how dare you cris!!!!!!:captain:

Cris@JCG 10-24-2012 07:17 PM

Thanks for the props guys! It was a pretty simple swap for us.. Fabricate engine & trans mounts... The union of the clutch master cylinder & power steering was easy.. We have plenty of custom fitting to make unions..

The shifter was a challenge & so was running lines to my oil cooler.. but we only designed & machined one piece... Mast makes a great oil pan... I have about three in stock... but they did not give enough room for fittings to headers.. When you work with -10 or -12 fittings .. you run out of room... So we designed this remote oil filter adapter.. It takes it to a Earl's remote oil filter adapter with thermostat.. then to the cooler.. & then returns oil back to the engine..

First off, good to know you are keeping busy Cris! Hopefully I will run into you at SEMA.

Its a little sad to see the Ford motor go, but someone has to stir the pot right!

Looks like those are Dynatech camaro headers? You got tons of room in there now!

Gandalf 10-24-2012 08:20 PM

LS power - YEAH baby!!! 2wk turn-around - showoff lol. Shakedown runs......might have to stop by for a look-see :-)

Looking forward to this and some other awesome car/driver combo's at this year's event!

Just out of curiosity (and I know this is way off topic but bare with me), how much bondo do you usually end up using when you smooth a firewall? How thick of a pass of bondo is acceptable for something like that? I lined mine all up and spent A LOT of time making sure it was straight and I have made sure to tack around the edges rather slowly to avoid warpage. Well, it warped, I don't know how I ended up doing that. :willy:

How do you avoid warping such a large flat area?

Cris@JCG 10-24-2012 09:17 PM

Looking forward to seeing you this year Tyler..

Good eye on the headers.. They are Dynatech 1st Gen Camaro..

One of main body men who happens to be good @ replacement sheet metal, front sheet metal squaring, & gaping all opening.. wanted to be given the opportunity to do some custom fabrication work.. so since we have so much of it going on right now here @ the shop.. I said.. Go for it!! He wanted a bead roller.. We bought one.. & here are the results so far.. Not bad for his first time on the bead roller!
