I'm thinking GHOST flames just on the truck -- on the hood and fenders only -- not back on the toter..... and done very subtlety....

Vegas69 04-23-2012 04:45 PM

The first thought that pops into my head is, can they spray a big rig like that with a metallic and make it look good enough?

Just step back from the 80's. Either put flames or don't. No Ghost flames.

If anything just do more stainless on the truck.

I already proposed that question.... since I just asked for the color change and they're built in Indiana -- I figure I'll hear back tomorrow or the next day. I also asked about whether or not they're capable of doing the ghost flames and coming up with a design etc.

If you look at the IKON/Renegade website - and specifically the IKON versions (which is what mine is) they have some pretty "fancy" paint jobs.... but those are smaller areas... so a HUGE surface done in Metallic might be all mottled... I don't know.

I like the stealth/sinister factor of the Lava Grey. It could be real good and Gwen can get in a few "I told you so's" when everyone is handing out compliments. Win-Win

I'm just trying to break up the HUGE solid color and trying to come up with SOMETHING that doesn't say MOTORHOME OLD FOLKS PAINT JOB...

Actually --- it has a huge chrome grill -- and big headlights - and chrome bumper -- and SS all the way down the side of the toter and stacker... so maybe that's enough! And all the window are black...

Thanks for the input guys -- really! I'm struggling with this part of it.

Just put as much stainless and chrome as possible. If it needs more later just a vinyl decal. But with the proper stainless trim it will look very classy and modern.

GregWeld 04-23-2012 05:08 PM

Here's a video I came across just now looking for paint ideas....This shows the floor I ordered and the way the shower is done... and the TV over the cab etc.
I did do the Hydronic in floor heat system... the difference is ours will be a Freightliner Cascadia truck - 600 hp Cummins - Allison automatic transmission... and only 24' of living quarters but will have the dual rear axles..

And this shows the paint job WE DO NOT WANT.....

I'm in agreement with Rodger -- just the Lava Grey and forget it....

Sieg 04-23-2012 08:01 PM

FWIW - Marathon Coach is in my backyard and I don't recall seeing any issues with their metalic jobs. Didn't scrutinize them too close, but never noticed any pooling etc.

Maybe break it up with a commercial theme which my draw less scrutinixing attention to the rig.

I thought you were all done after picking the options.

Now you need to figure out how to paint it? What a bitch!!

I like the ghost flame idea but with a vehicle that big you cant do the whole thing in flames so doing the cab only isn't a bad idea. Trying to tie another scheme into that is a tough one though.

I would probably run the ghost flames up front along with the triple color scheme on the truck they showed in the video. I liked the front of that truck.

Maybe on a car but not a hauler. Haulers with flames are cool. I recently saw a 67 Chevelle, all black with candy purple, blue, red, and yellow ghost flames in it. Wished I had my camera at the time. This thing looked bad ass!!

Last time I used LSD was probably around 1971.... but Tie-dye can be "cool"...

But don't you think nothing says "dated and old man driving large motorhome" as tie-dye?

What about lace painting?

Nah, not with a big pot leaf and a peace sign painted on the side of it. That would make you "hip"

Vegas69 04-23-2012 08:49 PM

I don't know about flames but it definitely needs a slogan. :unibrow:

Okay!

How about?

Ass.... Grass.... or Gas.... Nobody rides for free?

That'd be original right??

Track Junky 04-23-2012 08:51 PM

I went back to the vid to see that truck. The lines running up the side of the cab look good but after that they get to much. Maybe if you continued those lines all the way back it would look alot better.

Ass, grass, or gas...

Greg buys this great new rig so that he can travel around and go racing, yet the only "passing" that he's going to be doing is off the track :_paranoid

How's that for witty and back handed?

EPIC FAIL...

The "gas" is slang for FUEL....

Are you really that young that you've never heard that old saying??

No, no, no, my comment was in regard to the grass
Does that make it any funnier?

Well it was quite ambiguous. :D

Are there any threads left that stay remotely close to topic anymore?

Ghost flames are 80s. Just commit to flames fully, dont make me think i might be on a bad trip.

No Dave they're all just running conversations... all connected in some way or another.

Okay - Matt - It was I that was slow on the uptake -- now I understand your "passing" comment. It's been years and years... like High School....

+++++++++++++

Okay -- NO FLAMES OF ANY KIND - Large or small - ghost or Orange X 60'.... just plain old Lava Grey.

intocarss 04-23-2012 10:11 PM

Just an idea.. lava grey and black chrome the wheels and stainless stuff

sik68 04-24-2012 08:56 AM

That rig is sure going to look classy! Solid colors is how real racing teams do it  Risi Competizione has all of their haulers in solid red, with a logo splashed on it here & there. Avoiding flashy painted graphics now gives you some freedom to throw a vinyl graphic on there if you ever feel compelled.

How about http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...rhome/logo.png That has a nice ring to it?

Originally I thought about and asked them if they could do Ferrari Rosso Corsa Red - to match my '32 Ford... but then thought better of that color. I get enough tickets without announcing my presence 2 miles in advance.

GregWeld 04-24-2012 12:17 PM

So normally I wouldn't really ask for anyones opinion --- but I'm trying to make this a little "fun" and include you guys - because it's all good conversation!

I just realized that the "rig" will be "similar" in color to the Mustang stripes --- so am thinking of maybe doing YELLOW awnings?? That would be a cute play on the colors and is light enough to reflect sunlight etc... and might make it kind of fun color combo at track events.

???????

Having an awning match your car will be awesome until you decide to sell the car for something else that is NOT yellow. Just get everything Lava Gray Colored. the awning companies have a really nice dark gray.

Just make the hauler look timeless. No Gimmicks, No Crap that looks dated in 10 years. Kind of like blue jeans and a T-shirt or a tuxedo. They never go out of style.

Don't make you truck look like a really nice set of Big Block Chevy Valve Covers that everybody had on their hot rod rod 20 years ago and now look like they are 20 years one when they are brand new
