Here is the recipe just in case you get bored tonight and want to make a intercooler or something crazy. :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Thanks Vince, Justin is getting pretty dangerous with the 3D stuff. He is starting to design and bring into production his own suspension parts. He met last week with the machinist to get the prototype cut.

We were considering the MAST heads as part of the engine rebuild. After speaking with Patrick Guerra who spec the new road coarse inspired cam, he suggested if we were looking for a superior head, to look at the newer Trick Flow LS3 255. He said they have an LS7 chamber which moves the intake valve away from the chamber wall which reduces valve shrouding and improves hp a great deal.

I will be interesting to see were we end up power wise.

The only bad part is having to remove all the casting to make these smooth as it's a lot of work!

That's how I taught them math, LOL

BTW, guys the boys are selling a lot of the stuff they pull off on Camaro5.com I figure I'd give you guys a heads up in case you are interest in any of the parts.

Here is the link: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=373572

WSSix 08-17-2014 05:46 PM

Al, what was the reason for the engine rebuild again? I thought you guys had a built engine for the car already?

Good luck to your son on getting those parts made and sold. He's got a heck of a calling card he's building.

Trey I wouldn't call it a rebuild as much as an upgrade. The short block will stay intact. Just changing the cam, wet to dry sump, heads, and intake. Ascetically, replacing the current CF valve cover with a new set of Katech CF covers specific for this build. Just the proverbial snow ball effect, LOL

WSSix 08-18-2014 04:08 PM

Understood. Thanks for answering. I love this build.

Thanks Bud!

Few pictures of where the car is in the scheme of things with only 10 weeks left to SEMA :hairpullout:

Here is a picture for reference. I thnink I counted 120 plus holes that we welded in.

http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...ps19aa9125.png

http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...psd715304b.png

The car drop another 15 lbs by removing the entire divider. also got rid of the entire divided

http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...psd753ab51.jpg

We are going to use the roll cage as a frame for the new divider. It will look more like early Mustang fastbacks. As you will be able to see more of the wheels wells.

You can see how much cleaner the C pillar loos when compared to what we started with.

When it comes to body man, My buddy Manny is the MAN! The guy is a perfectionist. If anybody is doing a personal project in the Southern Cal area and needs a guy to do the body work, he is the guy. He use to work at a local custom paint shop but now hes on his own.

http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...pse76312e1.jpg

Every single spot weld has been address.

http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...ps62cc9bb4.jpg

Gotta give props to are friends at Derale. Just received a package with one off stuff they made for us. Here is a sneak peak. Wait until you guys see the new trunk divider finish.

G why are you worrying about saving money! :headscratch: You couldn't spend all your money even if you lived two lifetimes :twak:

OK guys need a little input if you will. We are trying to figure which product to use for the flooring as a heat shield. Theses two products come from Thermotec. The gold give a flavor of super car stuff. The thing is the sliver lends itself to sit better and doesn't tend to crease like the gold does. So should we go for the high end look of the gold and the better fitting silver? The aluminum will handle radiant temp of 2000 degrees and the gold 1800.

I like the silver and take a look at DEI stuff as it is not only heat but Sound. So you get the best of both worlds.

We are going to go with the silver.

Our resident suspension engineer "Justin" is in Pennsylvania at Penske hand assembling the racing shocks for G5.R right along with the tech assembling the Formula One shocks.

Not sure Marty but he should! Both Nathan and Justin will be attending a racing program were they get to build a mini Formula One race car. So they should be a big contribution the the team.

The shocks are made and hes flying back. He is so exited on how much he learned while at Penske!

http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...ps1bcf4b06.jpg

On G5.R the rear cradle is finish. Haven't weight it yet to see what the weight different is but I can tell you you can curl this one with one arm. The factory cradle needs two people to carry it and your huffing it.

http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...psaec743de.jpg

http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...ps71d879dd.jpg

Justin is design all his own control arms.

http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...psaf94b028.jpg

Being that these are not being made to turn a profit, nothing but the highest quality parts are being used. As an example, prices on rod end range from $20 to $120. These are on the top end side.

Thanks guys!

Unfortunately we wont be making SEMA as the car got hung up on the paint side again this year. Last year we didn't make SEMA for the same reason as we only had two weeks left by the time it got out of paint. Basically it needs a complete repaint as all the panels have battle scars from the working on it. Which kinda suck as $7,500 was blown on last years paint job. We were hoping to have it repainted by now but our time schedule hasn't lined up. To redo it with the time we have left would mean rushing it the rest of the build and that lesson was already learned once.

Rick D 09-07-2014 02:36 PM

Nooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!

Better to get it right then to rush it.

Ron in SoCal 09-07-2014 05:50 PM

Sorry to hear that Al, but 'in the Universe' doesn't come quick or cheap in today's world. SEMA and your followers will wait and enjoy it just as much when the time comes. You and the boys keep up the good work!

WSSix 09-07-2014 06:46 PM

x2 well said, Ron.

Bummer on the Sema thing and wrapping the car is not a bad idea since you plan to race it. It will actually protect the car to some degree.

raustinss 09-08-2014 09:24 AM

I agree...wrap it and create the buzz at sema....then see where things go

Al Moreno 09-08-2014 10:23 AM

Thanks guys for the words of encouragement! We looked into wrapping but it last year as a possible solution but the car still needed to be painted as the wrap will show if there areas the are primered. It will even show the orange peel through the wrap.

Al Moreno 01-10-2015 11:18 PM

Wow, its been a while since I have updated this thread. Progress a little slow since the boys started back up in college. Hoping to get her done when they take the summer off.

They redid the shock tower. First time the skimmed the seam

http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...ps67f4c3c3.jpg

With the concern for cracking under stress, the seams were cleaned and stitch welded and finally reskimming the smooth.

http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...psb31265e5.jpg

The trans and diff cooler brackets had compound bends which required a finger bender. We couldn't find one anywhere. I buddies at Derale came to the rescue and pulled it off.

http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...psfdf891d1.jpg

Package was cut out and a smaller one fab in it place.

http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...ps4bbb8c86.jpg

Every component in the engine bay was vapor blasted. This machine is about $30,000 but leave a finish that very fine.

Most all the CF parts are in.

Doors will drop about 90 lbs.

http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...ps36156173.jpg

We had these parts made for G5.R in dry carbon. Roof, hood and trunk will drop approx 40 plus lbs.

http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...ps8928bc19.jpg

Since it wont have any headliner, you will see the weave when sitting in the car. Kinda cool.
