Payton,
Any updates on this beast? Shane |
Thanks for asking
But not too much to report. Living in the land of NASCAR, I have lots of cool places all around me. One of those places is MSI Racing, they do custom wheel studs and lug nuts. They supply pretty much all of the NASCAR guys and have starting suppling most of the guys in GT, Grand Am, etc.
I was nervous about the 12mm stock studs in the front hubs so I went up to see MSI. They are hooking me up the a 14mm stud from the front and a custom 14 mm stud for the floating rear hub...replacing the 5/8 stud that is in there now. The cool thing is they are building it the same size as the 5/8 stud at the bottom so my drive plate will still have some support and then the front and rear will match. Finally made a decision on a seat and will be mounting it, steering, pedals and making some mounts for the motor plate. Updates coming soon. |
You're worried about wheel studs!? Get the car finished would yah! My junk will be worn out and on version 2.0 before you're done at this rate. :poke:
|
I'd really like to pile on with Tim hear, but have no room to talk. Lets see some progress in 2014.
|
Thanks for the support
I think? LOL
I am ready to move forward and have a little time before soccer starts up. I will see what I can do. |
 Payton, want to borrow some of that body armor I borrowed from Rob?
I saw the studs Rob got from MSI and they looked very nice. |

Dude. Quit holding out. You can't golf and lift weights every day. :action-smiley-027:

My car has been moved to the Land of Forgotten Projects. It is a lot like the Island for Misfit Toys.
|
C'mon PK, get after it.
|
Is it done?

I'm one to talk about stalled projects....some dudes have built two cars since I started mine. That said.....c'mon PK |
I have been picking up a few parts here and there. I will try and get some pics this weekend. Car is due to go to Jim Pettigrew's for exhaust, motor plate mount and a few other things so there will be progress in the future.
Parts: woodward with sparco steering wheel 2 Butlerbuilt full containment seats 71 inch wing Jack screw style watts adjuster New rear end housing because the first was built too narrow 14mm studs front and rear |
You should drop the 71" description and just call it like it is, A Big ass wing!
|
Just hurry TF UP will ya!! LOL
This is going to be so cool that when it's done --- I'm bringing the rig to Texasss and we're running an event together! |
I'm wanting to see what you do with those fenders

Tell you what GW, I am in Charlotte and you need to come to the East Coast, surely VIR is on your list of tracks. Load up your hauler next year and make the journey.
The flairs will be complements of Ron Schwarz...he has a way with bulges. |
This is where the wing came from...

Well that is just stupid. I spent 10 minutes rotating and saving the seat images and they are still wrong.
|
Yum...Butler seats!
|
I think you and Greg are both compensating for something.:peepwall: Its been so long, and so many pages since we've even seen this thing thought I'd post a pic of what we are talking about.

Love the seats Payton --- your photos -- not so much.... LOL
Okay then VIR it is!!! Let me (with Ron Sutton's help) sort the old girl out some more (just scheduled Sonoma for August 1 to 3rd) and then it will be dialed in. So a trip out NEXT summer for sure! There are a couple tracks I'd like to run out that way so will try to make a "tour" out of it. |
Wing envy. Guilty.
How's ole Ed doing on the that screamer of a motor? |
I'm in on that one Greg!! of course I need a Ron Sutton first. lol
Did you get your comp license? or are you just doing open track days? |
Quote:
Ron -- We've met.... do you think ANY sanctioning body would issue a comp license to me... Actually -- I've taken the SCCA license and hot starts tests and qualified for all that crap ---- but I have no desire (or balls) to actually "race". So just track days for me. I'm old -- and fat -- and kinda used up... |

I do fear a day when it will be required though. |

If I'm going w2w --- I could just sign up for the Lotus Cup series.... but that's never going to happen. I'm just not that competitive. I like to follow rather than lead.
Little Tommy McCarthy and his Dad (Terry) were thinking about buying little Tommy a 2 Eleven.... and I thought about that for weeks... about just handing them my car and being a/the sponsor... but that seemed a lot like "work" and I'm really anti the whole work thing. LOL Let's just keep it fun and go track days --- and enjoy ourselves. |

Those Mustang AI pics look like they are at VIR. Not sure if I want to go W2W racing yet either, I just got my TT license, I'll play in that sandbox for a little while. Looks like my Camaro will be in TT2 for NASA, Hurry up and get that thing done!
|
Sorry about the blurry cell phone pics. My hands were more steady when I was a young man.
I need cam, pistons and rings on the motor, I have everything else. Pistons will need to be custom and Ed is in Atlanta at a Trans Am race. We are getting together next week to get the pistons ordered. |
I really enjoy this build. :popcorn2:
