Great update Robo! Words of the day:

- No fireworks on the Camaro. Final answer.
- No, I'm not done hijacking your thread. :snapout:

broadcasting from somewhere in Arkansas

deep thoughts from the road...

Realizing that people in the south and middle parts of this great country are much nicer and friendlier than most Californians... ok that kinda sucks.

Good radio stations apparently are still alive.

Getting purposely lost somewhere -- physically and mentally -- is good for the soul. (so is fried chicken)

Writers block just hit... more later :headspin:

glassman 01-23-2014 08:59 PM

Yep.

A great road trip will cause ya to "think", "drink", & "stink".....thoughts from the unfriendly state (so true, so sad..)

Flash68 01-23-2014 09:13 PM

We got on the scale (bathroom, not truck) at the Flying J and the results were poor as expected.

That's one thing I really enjoyed about the carpet business, all the "players" were in GA & TN.......and I can't get enough Southern Hospitality. Men treat the ladies like gentlemen should and the ladies are a Hoot! I still stay in touch, love the charm and Southern Belle accents!

Opryland has few good tunes. :D

..........and the food rocks!

Get some sleep, you boys need it.

I've been out in Arizona and just got caught up on your road trip, looks like you guys are having a pretty good time! Years ago, before my wife and I were married we drove her soft-top, no AC, Jeep Wrangler from Tucson,AZ to Nashville,TN in the middle of the August heat...I thought we were crazy, but I'll never forget that trip. You get to really see the country when you're driving across it. Enjoy the trip and thanks for sharing...too cool!

Really!!! you have gained weight, sitting on your a$$ for 7 days straight. Every time I get text with a heaping servings of carny food on it, my arteries harden a little bit.

Actually was talking to Payton yesterday, and we were discussing how you two were doing it right. Usually when I'm on a road trip, I turn it into a job, have to be to this point by this time, driving to the we hours of the night trying to make good time. I don't know if its a laid back California thing or not, but I'm jealous. Lets see if its a mad across the bottom of the country now that you burned up all your days on the east coast. LOL

Vegas69 01-24-2014 07:22 AM

I'm the same way, I'd have it calculated out. Thus, I'm not a good road tripper. I'm working on it...

It sure looks like they are having a great time.

Ricochet 01-24-2014 07:24 AM

Whew!! Just chewed through the past 20 pages. What a fricken blast you guys are having. Trips like this are epic and never forgotten (even if you want to! LOL) Keep the wheels rollin', beer flowing and stuffing great food down your piehole along the way.

You guys are going to have to take a vacation when you get back to recover!

Ron we catch ourselves daily and throttle back the planning a bit.... probably we ended up staying at the Roach Motel in Sallisaw, OK last night. :confused59:

Oh, and maybe you didn't get the vibe from us when we were there but we are probably in the 5th percentile of "laid back" California. Another reason I go decaf. :D

I don't know about being laid back. Have you met DG? We have found a way to compartimentalize a huge amount of enerrgy into small pockets of last min research. We'll be rolling down the highway crosschecking Food TV network, Google, Yelp and formulating a plan put the miles behind us.

As soon as a change seems evident we go back into manic planning research and come up with an alternate we would have never thought of sitting down looking at a map before the trip started.

To simplyfy the explanation:headscratch: We just follow the Beer crumbs.

 Start small, maybe just a trip to a local diner between the gym and wheatgrass store with only consulting yelp.

You're listening to it Skip
6.7 to 7.5mpg so I haven't matched DGs all time low just yet.

You see SKip DGs gas mileage isn't actually accurate. You have to factor in his love for dousing everything in gas.

Yesterday I watched him shower his jacket in gas. Not sure what that was about.

Then a ways down the road as I come out of the gas station I see what I think it a huge leak running under the truck....... I walk up on it to see a GAS fountain shooting out of the cap as the pump runs unattended. (Note to self never walk away from an "auto shut of" pump). That one alone was 3+ gallons.

Then at our last stop last night before we hit Sallisaw I walk about to see Dave wiping, you guessed it, gas off the side of the truck.:_paranoid I'm hoping he kicks the habit.

:happy23:

I normally subscribe to this school of thought, but I make exceptions when it's 10 effing degrees outside and the first gas pump in 3 states I find will work with the auto-fill function.

Rob's embellishment can run pretty deep (shocker)... :tv_happy:

And since we are into throw under the bus mode  Rob loves to drive slow in the left lane and get passed by big rigs on the right (he helps validate the notion that California drivers suck and don't know the rules of the road).

Oh, and he is also the only one thus far to stall Betsy with sub standard clutch manipulation. Very disappointing for a life long Ford driver.

:catfight: :lmao:

I was almost tempted to just video the fountain until Dave returned but there wasn't an airport nearby.:popcorn2:

So instead I shut it off and pushed it forward. BTW DG is still complaining about the gas smell on his jacket. No embellishment needed:action-smiley-027:

A few hundred mi back I bought a 2 gal gas can as a precautionary measure. I fill it up and notice the F#*$ing seal on the brand new can is torn. I tried 2 get it 2 seal but no dice.

Right then a local walks up " hey is this a 66?"
DG "68"
Me "its for sale"
Local " I had a 69 with a 350 4 bolt"

As entertaining as this was it was 12 Fing deg out and I was done messing with the leaky can.

"Hey partner, would you like a free gas can and a couple gallons of gas?"

He focuses on the can and DG and I pull away..... the small red can fades to a small red dot in the rear view mirror.

Apparently Rob and I have found our respective niches. I should be driving and he should be pumping gas.

Oh, these dueling posts ripping on each other, while setting side by side are symptoms of deeper repressed anger. I think Dave is feeling a bit ripped off that Rob got to meet an FE engine guru. I think Dave needs a Chevrolet guru stop, or I fear some of this repressed anger may end in fisticuffs on the side of the highway. LOL
