The ones at the very bottom of the page are sweet.. and the same idea as the Katech ones. Although the covers seem "shorter"..

A little combo of parts I came up with for my '69 Camaro.. there are actually four parts to it.

1. large alumunum angled flat "washer"
2. smaller counter sunk aluminum washer
3. chrome AN washer
4. chrome button head allen bolt

Each combo ends up costing over $6.. but you only need four and they look so sweet. I get them for a local place called www.hillcofasteners.com

Leadfoot1 11-16-2006 10:45 AM

I LOVE the "Fabbed" look....But now that i've seen your engine done....I'm thinking to get some fabbed ones (taller + cheaper) and getting them coated.

A friend just bought a powder coating kit and is looking for parts to do :D

It was tough.. I detail it in part one of the engine install story (feb issue).

Had to make a custom line for the steering rack since it didn't let the alt sit all the way back. Then I had to shorten the stud on the back of the alternator by 1/4 inch. It's a pretty tight fit but looks great now and very "tucked away".

I can say it really is "tucked away" indeed. .I can hardly see it at all :D

mia 11-16-2006 03:40 PM

Anyway you can let me know where I could get a set?

novanutcase 11-16-2006 05:16 PM

novanutcase 11-17-2006 12:36 AM

Pheeewwww!!! That is tight! Great install and great idea on the S/S hose!

Thanks for the photo too! Now I see what you mean!

It looks like all the pulleys and tensioners are from an LS1. Was this done for alignment purposes?

The LS1 pulley system is just a nice compact unit. The vette unit tosses the alternator up high and to the side and I don't like that look as much. I want the accesories to be low-key.

The downside to the f-body system is AC. It wants the AC compressor on the lower passengers side of the engine, but most subframes don't want it there.

I also like using OEM pulley systems. They can look nice if worked with and they are a proven design. I also never have to worry about replacement parts. The balancer in an SFI ATI unit without the part for AC. It has the right alignment for the LS1 stuff and it only weighs 4.5 lbs.

It's a Powermaster alternator but it's dimensionally identical to an LS1 alt.

Steve,

thanks for the quick reply and, once again, your car is AWESOME!

Newest trinket.. The perfect compliment to the billet hinges. I had the spring thermal coated to tie into the headers and intake tube.

Still waiting on the wheels to come back..

What's it worth for you to find out???

j/k.. Kyle at DSE.

If enough people ask for them then they might make them. They go great with the hinges.

And I hate how the stock ones get beat looking after some use.

Maybe I will use them on my Fairlane. Cutting them into the Camaro hood was just too big a PITA and at this point I just want the car done.

We always say stuff like that don't we....Its the part of actually DOING (or not doing) it thats hard!

Another alternative for those intersted in fender washers is to use stringer washers from boats. I have been using these for years. You can buy them is various colors. I normally use a chamfering (spell??) tool and use a counter sunk allen. Very similar to what Steve has done. Once again Steve, looks killer!!!

Yea, noticing stuff is my strong area. It's also a curse since I notice every single imperfection in anything I look at.

I was brutal when I was a judge for the RG Canning shows many moons ago.. lol

Steve1968LS2 12-16-2006 10:29 AM

And I might as well toss out an update.. still waiting for the wheels to get done..

Almost looks like a flying car.

Killer stuff, Steve. The article in the February issue of PHR was awesome, too.

Speedster 12-18-2006 06:17 AM

That is just a sick ride Steve. I don't what lights it's under in the pics, but that paint absolutely POPS. Very straight. Can't wait to see it hit the road.

Funny story. The whole install was supposed to be in Feb. I ended up asking to split it into two stories because there was so much info. The problem was that I only had one lead shot. I scrounged around and decided to use that shot in the feb issue for a lead. The real lead shot will be in the March issue (part 2)

I almost screwed myself by spliting the story. Johnny was like, where's the lead and I was.. "uhh, ummm"

It's a funny color. with no strong light on it the color looks like a dirty old Penny. When strong light hits it all the gold comes out and it's pretty freaking amazing.

You know, it looks like a show car in the pics but in real life the paint is 8 on a 10 scale and panel fitment is certainly not show car worthy. But, I hope it makes up for all that in attitude. I plan on driving this thing alot and hard, so I didn't want to spend a bundle making technically perfect except for the engine bay. I would stack the bay against most cars.

I am still working out what I'm gonna do with the interior.

black2002ls 12-18-2006 09:00 AM

This is awesome. It has given me new inspiration for my 1/12th scale 69. I am in the process of duplicating your wheels and tires now!

SN65 12-19-2006 05:42 AM

When installing your glass, did you do anything special to finish off the gap between the trim and the body?

We always fill the gap with strip caulk. It takes about a day to do both the front and rear windows, but it gives the car a clean finished apperance.

Yeah, a lot of people have moved to that color since you first posted that car. Back in the day.......

The interior, you did right by your old blue Camaro. Less is more for that entire build! The meanness is what sticks out on that ride.
