My 11 year old laying bead with his new auto darkening helmet

My electrical bill is getting higher every month...lol He is really enjoying using the mig...welding scraps together. He made his first "piece" yesterday, some metal art for the garden.

That's cool

That is so kool!!!

My nephew was up from Portland one weekend -- and during a "shop tour" he expressed a keen interest in doing something. So I fired up the plasma cutter and had him build a "sun flower"... they could take home and put in the yard. That made for LOTS of practice with the plasma and to make the "seeds" -- lots of spot welding to make bumps... and to weld all the pieces together. He loved it! Maybe I created a future hot rodder. LOL

Sadly neither of my own kids are interested..... They both like cars and wheels and having them lowered etc... but they don't care how it gets done. So great to see someone that has a young one that is!!!

Cool stuff.
My daughter made this for a school project when she was 11.
She liked the welding, but not the grinding.

Funny, I kinda was the opposite. My dad was burnt on hot rodding and cars by the time I became a teenager. He pitted for my uncle's dirt track race car for years and just got sick of anything cars. And I guess that's why I never "got" his mechanical abilities!

The sunflower and that castle are pretty cool things made by youngsters!

Greg - gotta ask, where did you get this? I made a crappy homemade version, but that is nice!

Brandon......

It's Thermal Dynamics SURELOK accessories line.

Shop the welders websites -- prices are all over the board.... but about $250 should get 'er done.

Nice castle and sunflower!! I feel bad now for making my son use rusty steel...LMAO Trip to Mill Metals will be on my list for this week..

He has been messing around with bikes that he drags back from the dump....I bet I have 20 bike frames in a pile out by my shop...

Here is his latest.....stretched and raked a little..:willy: I told him he may not be able to actually ride it when it's done, he said: "who cares, it looks cool"
