Car Craft Nats...where to stay? I am planning to go and was wondering if anyone else here was going. I need a hotel close to the fairgrounds and preferably with a well lit lot. Some of you guys had security at the Year One thing and that would be a great idea up norf. The plan is to leave the rug-rat at home with grandma, so the wife and I can party at night. ( My wife is HOT, if it helps!!) |

When is it? Where is it at? What type of cars? I know nothing and their web site says a big fat zero. R.P. |

All the hotels close by are probably booked by now. I'll see what I can find for you for suggestions, I've stayed at several different ones over the years. |

Scott, If I can't make Columbus in time is this show worth the trip? :_paranoid Your thoughts.... R.P. |
|
I think it's gonna be worth it. 4000+ cars and 30k people. Dale Schwartz may go up with me. Don't think Jeff is gonna make it. And yes, a hotel close would be awesome. |

I think it's a great time. Last year, Car Craft had over 5,000 cars. I just wish more vendors were on hand. I spent all day yesterday at the MN State Fairgrounds at the MSRA Back to the 50's event. There were TONS of vendors there, but there was over 12,400 cars that were '64 and older at the show, too. I heard they were going to cap the amount of cars that could register next year as the Fairgrounds was extremely packed. |

I'm about 15 miles west of the fairgrounds. If anyone coming from out of town needs a safe & secure enclosed parking spot while they're here for the show, I'll have one, possibly two spaces available in my garage. I also have a lift, air compressor, TIG welder, tools, etc if anyone needs to do emergency repairs. |

We're staying at the Holiday Inn express in downtown St.Paul. I hope it had underground or covered parking. It's been a rough year for cars getting stolen at shows. I might bring a hammer drill and some anchors and chain. I'll bolt the damn thing to the ground!!!! Hold a spot for me, I have to find out what the parking is like. |

We're Staying At The Hampton Inn On Shoreview 7 Miles North Of The Grounds |

No trailer, like I said, I should think of a way to chain the thing to the ground. I can't get a GPS/cell phone alarm installed in time for the show. I still have a ton of little details to sort out. How's the parking lot at that hotel? |
|
Well, parking isn't the best, they have their own little ramp. That hotel is primarily for staying at when attending events at the Excel Energy Center. It's not real convenient to get in and out of, but very convenient for staggering to and from the Excel. I looked at their calendar of events, and there's nothing going on there that weekend, so the place shouldn't be too busy. :) |

Motel 6 is about 4 miles from grounds Still had rooms $65 for a twin bed |

If you stay on the north side of the fairgrounds, you should be good. Arden Hills, Shoreview, and Roseville are all very close and pretty quiet. The Hampton Inn where comp-spec is staying is a pretty nice, newer place. Randy |

We would love to go but, we would probuly play hell trying to get a hotel this late! Paul |

Not at all, Paul. The Twin Cities metro is huge, there are plenty of hotels that are within 20 minutes of the State Fairgrounds. Besides, this time of year, half the population of Minnesota is 'up north' fishing. :D |

I'm staying at the lovely, grass filled estate... of my home.. LOL Just kidding. You'll be surrounded by hundreds of people parking their cars outside at the hotels, its one of the cool places to go after the show! just make sure your car isnt nicer then the rest of them so theives will go elsewhere! |

Scott, will you be there on Saturday? |
|
I'm taking Jeff Schwartz's advice and going to where the magazine people are. No one is going to see my scrap unless I find them. I hope to run into a few of you guys up there. And BTW, I just found item #102 to fix before the trip, the diff cover on my IRS is leaking. The whole pumpkin needs to come out to re-seal it. ARRRGGHHHH!! |
