Charger Project

1 Attachment(s)
Here is Jason's rendering of my latest project. Guess what, it is not a camaro either...hehe
As some of you already know, XV Motorsports stage II stuff front and rear, one of the first 392 crate motors already sitting on the shop floor. Of course wilwood brakes, Forgeline wheels and Flowmaster mufflers. Stay tuned, should be a fun car when finished.

V8TV 07-01-2007 09:32 PM

Cool... one of the guys in our shop has a '72 Charger... he's going to S*** when he sees this...

Bill Howell 07-01-2007 09:39 PM

I am still working on the exact graphic size, etc, but as soon as I can get all the mechanicals in place, the car will be making a trip to Orlando to let Frank and crew work their magic on the paint and graphics. Against the wishes of some, I am going to put the vinyl top back on the car, I just love the look.

Roger Poirier 07-01-2007 09:45 PM

No door handles? Maybe they are on top of this car for this type of model and year? I thought this car was going to be a fixer upper? If I remember the paint was fairly new? Oh well another project over budget. Forgeline wheels.... ha

Stuart Adams 07-01-2007 09:48 PM

Should be a head turner for sure. You will look even cooler behind the wheel of that.

Naw, he put up a giant building to house his growing car addiction. Loks great Bill and Jason. Love the vinyl top too! Can't wait to see it on the track in October.

Hdesign 07-02-2007 10:54 AM

Those cars are really growing on me. Great colors and I like the vinyl top too.

HRBS 07-02-2007 11:33 AM

NICE Bill !
NICE !

Bill Howell 07-02-2007 05:43 PM

Thanks guys,
I really had a hard time trying to decide whether or not to put a vinyl top back on the car, but in the end, I just had to do it. If for no other reason, to be different. This car will not be as flashy as the goat, but should hold its own, plus it will see track time. I am looking forward to wearing it out once it is finished.
If I keep on though, I will lose my Poser status....hehe

radrambler 07-02-2007 07:00 PM

HEY BILL!!!

looks like a really cool project, should be lots of fun beatin the tires off it.

Bill Howell 07-03-2007 08:44 PM

LOL Tom, you know how me, cars and budgets go. Compared to the goat, it is still a budget build though.

Hey Blake, yeah, been busy and now we are working hard to get this puppy ready for the XV track day at Pocono. You know I will beat the heck out of it.
I am assuming you will be at SEMA again this year right? We need to get that adult beverage this time, my treat.

RECOVERY ROOM 07-09-2007 09:20 PM

Prepare yourself as a driver and you might just not need to "beat up" the car. If you have watched any onboard video of a typical novice track driver, you will see there isn't much beating going on, most let off the gas very quickly and get on the brakes very early. As long as the motor can control its fluids, and the brakes are up to par you shouldn't have to beat it up at all. The fastest drivers are the smoothest drivers.

This is all unsolicited advice, but I would find some onboard videos of some drivers at that particular track and take some observations on what lines they are taking, when they brake, and just get an all around feel for what turns come up next on the track. Learn all the different flags and all the safety procedures for getting on and off the track. If you can get a feel for the flow of the track and what turns are what, you will be light years ahead of the other guys, who just showed up with their high end car expecting great results because they built their car so killer. Just learning on-track rules, procedures, and rules can be overwhelming. Prepare yourself as much as you are your car and I guarantee you will have a much more productive, fun, and safe time.

Hey, thanks for the advise. It seems everyone I know that turn good times always brake late, so I dig your username. I have considered going to a driver school, to brush up on my skills.

Stuart, it was just terrific. The local guys (Coghlan Motorsports) did very good for a non sponsored team and with a good sponsor deal shaping up next year, they will be a great team and a force to be dealt with. Ron took several good/funny pictures he said he would bring by...lol

It is amazing that just about every event I go to now, someone I meet will know someone on the boards, so when he mentioned Lake Havasu, I knew he would know you......small world indeed now with internet.

mlomaka 07-12-2007 07:36 AM

Great project! I am kind of partial to them though. Here is my last one. It was about ten years ago now or it would have bigger wheels on it. It was a lot of fun to drive, and they do look better with the vinyl top. Nice part with the top is they had a huge sunroof as an option. I would love to see pics of the 1:1 car and it's progress.

Bill's at Bonneville working on his tan. The car's coming along. He's got some pix. Come on down to Pigeon Forge in September and see for yourself. :willy:

Got the brakes today, 14"ers. Yeah baby!!!

As you can see, we are about to finish the welding and mock-up on the front end. Complete TKO 600 on the way from Tony and crew at Mopar Classic 5 speed. Should be here this week. Once we get the motor/tranny mocked in place, we will move to the rearend and get the new Mosler Dana/XV three link in place.

Car will be ready for Year One Experience/2008
