atomic orange
Five weeks away and I will finally have it back it has been a little over a year at shop. I had a hard time picking a color atomic orange is not to wild but not to plain. What do you guys think of this color and all original rs/ss trim on a 68? The 40,000 bill from body shop is a little more than I have so I will need to borrow some to pay the bill. When it comes I can start assembly and save for the hogan intake/exhaust/hydra brake and brake kit since the bear brake kit will not fit new ford rear end. HOPE TO POST FINISHED PICS AUGUST 10TH

|

|
Do you have any pictures of the car before you dropped it off at the bodyshop? And, do you have any pictures during the build process?
|
They installed dse fire wall, dse quadralink, dse coil over, dse subframe connectors, dse mini tubs, used roof, center trunk pan, lower tail pan, roll cage, ford 9", worked on small dents on floor, one lower center dent on sub frame, quarters the old one had many small dings. They supplied all dse parts, roof, ford 9", lower tail pan and I supplied the rest. Lucky it had very little rust. Here are some pic before it left my house and then the shop.

Pictures are blurry though. |
car looks killer.....but i would have painted the block and valve covers the orange clashes with the color of the car........
|
hear is a clear picture. what is fair to ask for on body lines I want to know if I'm being a pain in the ass since I know I can be picky? I have tried my best to make the car top notch and spent my life savings on it.

3/16 to 1/4 is what we shoot for on gaps
|
Travisb
I agree on 3/16 to 1/4 that for gaps. I guess I should have asked if doors should have same gap from bottom to top, matching left door and right door gaps also? Also the hood may not be the same gap as the door but should match it self left and right? Keeping in mind this was not a bolt on paint type of job. My car is not finished so do not take this as a negative commoment on builder I just wondering what other people opions are. thanks |
may just be panel adjustment. We spent a couple days aligning panels on our camaro. To have a diff hood gap size is fairly common as well as the decklid unless lots of time was spent clsoing up the gaps. Car looks great man hopefully they can door some more adjustments and get it were yo want it. Most cars if they are driven much loose some of there gap here and there anyway just the nature of the beast.
|
thats what I though it just a matter of spending the time during build working it to match. This is a show car thats why the bottom is finished like it is and I want the body to be the best for shows.
|
I got the for sure I'm picking it up tomorrow:clap: can not wait to see it with the hood on and complete. I Will be posting the pics tomorrow yaaaaaaaahoooooooooo its been seventeen months since it left my house. Might not be able to sleep tonight.

congrats man....... |
Well today was one of the worst experience I ever had. When to pick it up at chopshopcustom and it had 8 large chips in paint a couple filled as if it was done with finger nail polish brush, three 1" look likes hairs in clear coat, lots of small bubbles but under clear coat, scratches everwhere and some of the paint is only green no orange and I don understand why it would be green only? After having to pull one of chop-shopcustoms employee away from pushing my wife and all of his guys telling me you only spent 40,000.00 so we can not fix the chip and of stuff and Lenny saying screaming at his guys and me he said he could fix that but it would have to be in the future. I know I'm picky but macco painted my chevelle and it came out PERFECT NOT GOOD BUT PERFECT. Anyways I guess it going to need to be painted again. I have a nice 15 footer paint job. The metal work was extremely good. This is my first time I have ever been taken for a ride and it sucks. To upset to post pictures today so maybe tomorrow. Does anyone know of a good honest place local to south shore in Boston to get it repainted? What a ****ty day.
|
Sorry to hear that bud, your car was looking pretty awesome. $40K for paint and body seems like alot, so I would expect perfection as well. Good luck with the next steps.
|
wow... that really sux you got taken for a ride.. yeah at 40k that paint job better sing to you!! it looks very similar to a color i mixed one time and let me tell you.. there is no wonder the guy doesnt want to repaint it.. my paint was a tri coat but it was soooo difficult to match.. you would think for 40k he could repaint the car about 3 times and still come out ahead.. well i wish you the best of luck with your project and dont worry..karma is a b&tch..

that sucks,:(
|
he paid 40k to have the car built from what I understand not just paint alone.....is that right Awesome tool?

If anyone wishes to take this off line and ask me anything about the build or anything that is in my shop (or has been) Im happy to do so. I dont like to air dirty laundry and to do so brings me (and my business) to a level I dont care to go to.I am a professional and stand behind my shop and my work. I have an open door policy here and have nothing to hide. In a nutshell-$27K was what was into the car for metalwork, body & paint. the rest was parts that were purchased by the customer. With over 200 hours in the paint alone, Im not thinking it ME that came out ahead... Oh and thanks to Peter at Comp. Specialities for letting me know this post was here.... |
200 hours should make that car flawless.. dont you agree? im a painter.. i paint 3 or 4 cars a day and none of them have any flaws in the paint job.. maybe factory matched orange peel or something but no dirt nibs, hairs, or scratches.. and to think these are just measly 2000 dollar paint jobs on factory cars.. i know exactly what goes into painting a car and what the end result should be... I think the car looks great from the pictures but telling a customer that just spent an average man's years salary at your business that he's **** out of luck and is just going to have to wait is down right wrong. NO if ands or buts about it. As far as the car taking 200 hours to paint, it should be perfect. I dont doubt your shop has the potential to high end work and such but this guy did not get a 200 hour paint job if there are hairs, scratches and touchup spots.. period...

Never said he was **it out of luck. I stand behind my work and my shop for what we do. I have 25 years of experience building and creating high end paint work and metal work. Ive been spotlighted in National magazines (most recently the Nov 07 issue of Classic Trucks for Primedia) and websites for the work that I do. Im involved with two major sponsor cars that are going to SEMA this year (one of which is for SNAP ON TOOLS) (http://www.aintstreetlegal.com)so Im well versed in what is good vs what isnt. The customer demanded the car go yesterday . I have offered to discuss and work with him for anything he feels isnt right. Its up to him now. I hope he has a chance to take a deep breath, REALLY look what he has for a car and work out his issues. I have nothing to hide and offer anyone to contact me abou this or any other work I am doing or have done with any questions. Thanks |
Just a heads up, I'm not going to let this turn into a giant war on the Forums. If this gets ugly, I'll lock and/or delete this thread.

like i said i wouldnt doubt you have the ability and if you offered to take care of him however you could then thats whats right. i read his posts and took what he said into concideration before i posted anything.. you obviously know what a paint job should come out like.. regaurdless i dont believe in the end the 200 hour job should have any flaws.. ANY.. im not trying to be pain or argue and agree the car looks killer.. just throwing my two cents in.. once again besides the mentioned flaws the car looks great and i hope you guys can work something out.. |
Chopshop Dude
There are 5000 members here. Probably another 15,000 plus lurkers and visitors. I hope you can grasp the level of exposure that you are getting here. The majority of us go to SEMA every year. Most of us know 4-5 somebodies at every level in the automotive industry. We all talk to each other just about every day in one form or fashion. 200 hours of labor and 25 years of expierence better get a paint job to die for or to kill for. I am sure you have cranked out some teriffic paint jobs. Seems like you missed it on this one. I am not trying to knock you by any strech but this dude has been excited as a kid on Christmas morning up until he went to your shop. I would not choose this hill to die on. Fix the man's car. |

I am happy to work with the owner if he choose to do so. Its up to him at this point. Again- I stand behind my work and shop. |
