2007 SMOTY top 5 are............

Bill just called, Top 5 for Street Machine of the Year are

Ring Bros Mustang
Morrison's Corvette
Alloway's mustang
DSE's Dale Jr Camaro
Troy's Hurricane Impala.

No surprises here. My pic is Ring Bros, let's see what happens

ProdigyCustoms 07-14-2007 02:54 PM

And the winner is............

Ring Bros!

To ne that car is hard to beat. From the minute I saw it at SEMA I had it picked. Too much cool little CNC stuff on it.

Al Moreno 07-14-2007 08:35 PM

wasn't Orion, Jon LaRue's Twin Turbo 69 Camaro suppose to be there?

rocketman 07-14-2007 10:15 PM

While all these are cool car's,there not a street machine a true street machine hasn't won it a long time. They should call it pro touring of the year.

I like the PT car's but the award is street machine of the year.

Due to unforeseen issues, it was unable to attend. I believe it is scheduled to be finished later this year. I hope...

Give an example of a car you think is a street machine.

what's the difference?? please don't get the wrong impression, whether it's pro-street, pro-touring, street rod... etc, it's STILL a "street machine" IMHO...

MarkM66 07-15-2007 11:56 AM

Pro-touring, g-machine, resto-mod, muscle rod, etc. etc. All fall under the same umbrella, which is "Street Machine."

Congrats again to Doug Hoppe, the Ring Bros, and Tracy Weaver. And quite an accomplishment since the competition was FIERCE! There were sssssoooooo many top quality cars in the Pro Pick area it was crazy! I'm guessing there were 200+ cars in the pro pick area so picking 5 for SMOY and 20 for PRO's pick would be really hard. Bill and I agreed there were at least 50 cars that should of gotten a pro pick!

And rocketman you'll like this. Bret from airride announced at the awards that the 2008 SMOY contestants will have to compete in an autocross and drag type events and those results will be considered. So if you want to compete you better make sure it can run. With competion like Morrison's vette and Jr's camaro its going to be ALOT more interesting, FINALLY.

Congrats to Doug and the Ring Bros

Lots of Big names in there, quite a year!

Too many trinkets in my opinion...under the hood is way too busy. I had the troy car or the alloway car picked....Hands down the two best cars in it and from proven builders that know there stuff and know how to make a car work. The DSE car a close third as we know those guys know there stuff as well.

CONGRATS to Tracy for an interior very well done.

Well after thinking about it. You could take the street machine title and break it off to differnet groups,Pro street, pro touring, etc.

A street machine to me would be of the Vette,It's what I would consider a Saturday night cruiser.Something not so trick but, lot's of power, looks good, not a cnc billet rod looking car. That Mustang could almost be a late model street rod.

I think it is about time........ after all these years you see guys build some phenomenal cars and as bad as they would like to drive em, they stay locked up in the trailer because they are afraid of a new rock chip. I think it is about time that a prestigeous award recognizes rock chips. In reality nobody will ever truely know how nice the fit and finish truely is until a car fresh build is put through its paces. You can have beautiful gaps and one good trip down the road and they are gone. Body work and paint popping.... I think the iconic cars like Johnson's Cuda, and the Chicayne obivoulsy set the stage. These cars were built to run and are owned by people who would rather drive than trailer.... and drive hard.

LL CUSTOM 07-16-2007 08:33 AM

I also think it is a great idea. If it can not perform then it should be called a Show Machine not Street Machine. iIt reminds me of when I was a kid in the late 60's and went to the World of Wheel's in Milwaukee. There was an awsume 56 chevy there and the engine was intirely chrome and gold plated. i was 14 or15 and i asked the owner how he stoped the engine from turning blue from the heat and he told me the engine didn't even have pistons in it. Right then and there i decide all show and no go was a waste. later larry

Loved the show! gets better and better! Awesome Mustang aswell as most all the others, Lets just say i would not want the job of picking these and narrowing them down! But i have to say Troy has always seemed to impress with every job he puts out! Alloway aswell
But here is my 5 picks if you can actually choose from such luscious sheetmetal wow

customcam 07-16-2007 06:20 PM

ty G bod awsome cars

TravisB 07-16-2007 06:32 PM

the yellow pick up could have asily been top 5 street rod but it was t oold for street machine. The bubble top would have gotten a pick had it not **** its pants when it pulled in, it had antifreeze from one end to the other sat morning.

It was an awesome show overall.

The truck is pretty questionable an actual street rod is 48 and back but good point. I actually over heard him talking to a couple of guys about being pretty pissed about not being picked for any of the major awards i think he got an award for something like the best WOW vehicle or something he was complaning like hell i made great eight and diddnt even get picked, and said he was just going to drive the hell out of it,
Pretty amazing Truck although like i mentioned early would not want to pick these vehicles way to many nice rides. shame but nothing any different than most that dont win at a smaller show everyone wants too just bigger egos at these shows lol
Amazing truc if you get a chance to check it out in upcomming issues do so amazing custom tube chassis just steller design overall, not a big Fan of the color nor am i of Alloways mustang but they are differnt in hues thats for sure

Actualley according to the rules as I understand them, the vechical has to be 1954 to 1972 . So since that truck is a 54 or first edition 55 it would actually fit in the catagory. At least the rules I saw did not specifie whether it could or not be a truck. But regardless they are all pretty awsume, but if a guy is going to get bent out of shape about not being picked , I think he missed the point anyhow. later Larry

MarkM66 07-17-2007 05:49 AM

I liked the Bubble top, not sure if that color combo helped it though.

Did anyone catch the name of the owner or the builder ? I'd like to see the buildup of the truck and the any chassis pics if it's available somewhere. The fit and finish on this truck was excellent - one of the best I've seem in a while and comparable to a Foose/Troy type effort ! I really liked the choices in polish/satin/gloss finishes and his choices in complementary colors. I didn't like the yellow base color - but I was impressed with all the additional colors and finish choices he used to setup the rest of the deal to work. I personally didn't like the squareness of the interior - but that's just me. The outside has a ton of round stuff - so I would have done a rounded interior to match - but that's being WAY picky for an outstanding piece of work that I would buy in a heartbeat !!!

n2billet 07-17-2007 01:52 PM

The designer/painter/and some assembly work was done by Rodney Hutchinson (Total Kaos) in Pasadena Texas. Pinkee did a most of the metal work and two guys that work for the owner (Carroll) help with the wiring and getting the truck put together..... Rodney poured his soul into this truck and it shows, he always paints his projects a different color to be..... well different. If you park a stock truck next to this one it will show that this truck is 3/4 scale all the way around.....simple amazing! I still think there are some pictures of the build on Pinkees website but you really have to see this thing in person.......

I agree really an amazing truck made the great eight in Detroit and wow the crowd up tgere aswell. but i beleive i seen some chassis picks in super rod and rod builder but im shure they will be out soon though real peice of work ecs with that ZR1 engine would be wicked fun to drive!
Actually a side story about th 55 convertable i'll post a pick of it aswell but it was built for detroit last year with a 3 year build time fo rhtat show and they were pulling it in the arean and it broke a cam in the motor one of the many those ZR1's have and he coulnt complete dew to that it had to arrive on its own power tough break for a killer car aswell

Garage Dog 65 07-17-2007 02:14 PM

Thx

Thanks for the info guys !! I'll check it out.

Nice site and plenty of car eye candy ! http://www.pinkeesrodshop.com/projec...8_Chevy_Truck/

Garage Dog 65 07-17-2007 02:29 PM

I checked their site and among the awards listed for the truck is "awarded the Chip Foose design excellence award and the most beautiful interior award"

So, what the hell do I know about interiors anyway .....

Way to go guys !!!!

Lenie 07-17-2007 05:17 PM

The truck and 55 are absolutely stunning. Hard to believe these two wouldn't be in the top awards. Why, I'd give my left to own one.

By definition, the truck is arguably not a street rod IMO despite it's year and definitely not a street machine but it got Top 5 in Truck of the Year which is a major award and the 55 got Top 5 Street Machine and Custom Rod last year so he is out of the running this year.
