70 mustang progress

5 Attachment(s)
I posted a few months ago when I first started this project and thought I'd post some pics of the progress. after some extensive body work,(quarters, floorpans, shock tower, lowered rockerpanels, sidemarkers filled ect.) it's in the final blocking stages now and should be ready for paint in the next week or so.I'm still deciding on HOK tangelo or a dark candy red (help!). Window trim, spoilers, and stripes on hood will be dark grey same as wheel centers. Engine is a pretty stout 302 with a fogger system, backed by a big block toploader with hydraulic clutch. Suspension is total control front and rear (g-bar in rear) wilwood all the way around, including triple master pedals, and steeroids rack. Tires are 295 35 19 and 255 40 18 with budnik cannons. Interior includes 2005 bmw seats with integreted belts, fold down rear seat and full autometer year one dash.Anyway I have most of the pieces and as soon as the paint is done it might start to look like a real car!

In that case I personally think the candy red would be a nicer contrast.
Either way.... very nice build .... and even nicer garage floor (man thats clean)

I've always loved 70 fastbacks!

Your's is coming along very nicely!!

I'll even the score out and vote for the tangelo!
(Sorta like the ole Calypso Corral on roids!) :D

Making some serious progress. Between the colors you mentioned, definately some sort of candy red. This car may be a good example of what you are looking at.

Looking good! One of my next street car builds will be a 69 or 70 fast back. I noticed you are out in Disco! My inlaws live out their off New Port so I may have to swing by and check out your ride.

Yeah, I think im leaning towards a candy red. It would probably transition better with dark trim and give it a more "sinister" look that i'm after. I spent all day blocksanding and I cant wait till this stage is done.Kevin, if your in the area stop by, I've got two sanding blocks!

Stang, i'll be watching for updates. I also have a 70 sportsroof I hope to be starting on soon. I am a fan of the tangelo color from HOK. However, the candy would be great, just harder to shoot. I always think about future accidents where i would need to touch up or even repaint. 3 stage paints are harder to match. Well, in my opinion. I am not a professional.

I have a few pics that I attached of the interior ect. that are ready for install. The gauge panel is a Year One piece that was painted. I ditched all the woodgrain and shooting towards a more hightech aluminum theme. The tailamps bezels have been smoothed out and should give a more modern appearance Thanks for the input on paint guys, I am going a candy red. (kevin, I'll pm you with an address)

andrewmp6 08-13-2007 11:50 PM

looks great are you gonna use l.e.d. tailights

DocDave 08-14-2007 01:30 PM

Cool build. Nice update photos. Make sure you post some more when you get the paint on it.

I'm Curious. Those taillights out of a late model stang?

Rebird 08-14-2007 03:25 PM

Absolutely love that year stang!!! Keep the updates coming.....

HWY Nova 08-14-2007 05:48 PM

I haven't posted in a while and thought I would post some update pics. I'm finally doing final assembly and should be on the road just in time for winter (oh well, good thing i'm in Ca.!) The paint still needs a final buff but I'm happy with the color and think it will look good with the steel gray accents. I'll take some more shots when the rest of body panels and glass are fitted.

XcYZ 11-13-2007 09:28 PM

Wow, that looks fantastic! More pics please!

Tom.A 11-13-2007 09:48 PM

Very Nice

customcam 11-13-2007 10:08 PM

like it
but the pics are sought of small ?

907rs 11-13-2007 10:26 PM

Very nice! What's the name of the color you chose?

EBMC 11-14-2007 08:55 AM

It's a 07 Toyota color called Salsa Red Pearl. The hood is getting the 69 mach 1 blackout treatment except in semigloss gray, same as wheels and trim with billet hood pins (thanks Marty!)

I've got a few more progress pics to post. been kind of busy with holidays and such. I still have to finish trim details, final polish paint and install glass, then I'll have some overall shots.

HRBS 12-27-2007 09:58 AM

Very, Very Nice !
Great attention to detail.
That color is great.
I used the same color to do the flames and engine on my wifes Nova.

groovyjay 12-27-2007 12:38 PM

My favourite Mustang bodystyle! And what great things you have done with it! Do keep us posted the rest of the project! :hail:

After an extremely tough thrash to get the car together in time for the Goodguys show in Pleasanton, We made it and drove it into the fairgrounds with one lap around my building on the odometer! It won the Mighty Mustang award and the crowd response made it worth the 16 hour days.Like I mentioned in another post it was nice meeting some of you and look forward to meeting up again in the future. Meanwhile, here's a few pics, I'll post some more detailed shots of the mechanical end of things in a couple of days.

Great ride!

I have a friend with a 70 fast back that he is putting up for sale. I have been sending pics of your car trying to get him to keep it.

What console are you running? Any idea what the market is for a 70 fast back, 20 footer, rust in one floor board? Not original 351/4speed

Back to your car. Love the color and everything you did to it. Not enough people doing 69/70 stangs...

Thanks, the market is very good for any fastback mustang. If you were closer I'd like to look at it. I'm running the factory console but swapped out the woodgrain for an aluminum look.

Man I love the 69-70 Mustangs!!! My absolute favorite. That is one Gorgeous 1970 Mustang right there. I love the color, the wheel treatments and the satin treatments. Wheels/tires, and stance can make and break a car and you nailed it - AWESOME!! Feel free to share as many pics as you like! Nice to see Mustang g-Machines!!!

MarkM66 04-03-2008 06:31 AM

Looks great.

Is that the Wilwood 3 m/c 2 pedal assembly?

It looks like the clutch and brake pedal are further apart.

Thanks, Yes it is the Wilwood triple master pedal assembly. I reconfigured the pedal pads for better ergonomics and attached Saleen late model mustang pedal covers.

Steve's car is outstanding in person, and besides that, he is as nice a guy as you would ever want to meet. If you are in the NorCal/Bay area and need a shop to install our stuff or get work done, give him a call. Based on this car, I have NO hesitation at all in recommending him.....

nice car for sure. I had a 70 Grabber Sportsroof I hot rodded for a decade until I sold it to go back to college (which was the better investment tho' a roller sells for what I sold a damn nice CA car for in 1997) and to this day consider the 70 Mustang the absolute coolest car.

I will have another for sure! When I get tired of road racing my current car that is...

My cousin lived out in DiscoBay, nice area as well.

Travis77 04-03-2008 01:55 PM

You nailed it:yes: !!!! I wish you were going to Del Mar.
