new member w/ project.
I wanted to see the pics of roarvette's ride so i had to register and figured I'd introduce myself while I was at it.
I'm Marck from the Netherlands and I'm building a completely modified 1982 Corvette w/ a twin turbo 355SBC (for now, will be a 598 w/ most likely turbos on it), a ZF 6 speed, a clamshell front end, fender flares, custom front & rear suspension, 12pnt cage, wilwood integra 6 & 4 piston calipers, 5 stage dry sump oiling...and a lot more. Here's some shots of the car, the front & rear susp. are not completely finished. I still have to finish the toe control and upper camber control rods for the rear susp (have everything lying around ready to be final welded), the toe control rods go in front of the halfshafts because of the 80-82 diff. carrier, there's no room on the back. The suspension has full coil overs on all 4 corners, I still have to finish the "spreader" bar on the front and the lwoer control arms (for now it's a stock arm adapted for a lower coil over mount) My appleton rack will arrive next month or so, that's when I will start on my front steering end take off conversion, no more recirc. ball box for me. excuse the mess, it's my new shop and haven't had time to do any tidying or arranging stuff (the wood is not for supporting the frame, it's to keep the wheels pointing forward and not scuffing the trailing rods) http://members.home.nl/m.b.p.jongman/rollcage1.JPG http://members.home.nl/m.b.p.jongman/pattersontank4.JPG http://members.home.nl/m.b.p.jongman...hockmount2.JPG http://members.home.nl/m.b.p.jongman/suspwork11.JPG |
..continued...

Good to see you here. I have been following this project on the Corvette forums and just love to see updates.
Sorry I couldnt hook you up with those cross shafts. We have some more that just came off Kurt's 81 Vette as he went to a VB&P complete suspension kit. Let me know if you need those. Not a problem getting them pressed out and sent. Car is looking great! I hope to be able to see it in person some day. |
Yeah, I still need cross shafts, that's what's holding my lower arm project back. If you have them I definitely want them. The other source I had never came through either (and this has went like this a lot of times..somehow the cross shafts are hard to get)
I'm really making good progress now that the shop is done and the pneumatics for the tools are all set up. I'm hoping to have the frame rolling in the next couple of weeks, the suspension stuff still requires a lot of welding and fabrication. |
Welcome, Marck. :) That's an awesome project. I definitely want to follow along.

here's an old shot of the still not completed engine (the plumbing is not done, I have too many projects going on that still need finishing)

(that crossmember is gone, it was a temporary butcher job on the stocker to properly position the tranny) home made rear flares, not done yet http://members.home.nl/m.b.p.jongman/wheelsflares4.JPG this is a photoshop of what it should look like when finished http://members.home.nl/m.b.p.jongman/sigsideexh.jpg |

wilwood integra 6 calipers on the front http://members.home.nl/m.b.p.jongman/wilwood63.JPG http://members.home.nl/m.b.p.jongman/wilwoodrim1.JPG oh..and I know, I'm a lousy photographer :) |
Twin_Turbo, Glad to see you found this site. There are some great looking cars here with lots of great craftsmanship and horsepower. I'm glad that you can now work on your car in your new garage vs. being outside. Rod

One word: Whoa!
Welcome Marck. |
Marck,
He just popped them off the A-arm. Was going to send you a PM but I can't attach a photo there. He wanted to know if you want the bolts as well. |
The bolts would come in handy, I can just have them replated and use them on the car instead of swapping to something else (allen heads)
Thanks for all your help, when I get them I can finally finish up those lower control arms and wrap up the whole suspension deal. I'm going to order some big meats and hopefully will have a rolling chassis in a couple of moneths. |
amazing looking project. can't wait to see more of it.
|
thanks, I'll post some pics when I have updates. I'll be working on it tomorrow so just maybe I have something finished then.
|
it took quite a bit longer than one day..but I did make some progress in the meanwhile (and took more apart, removed the entire rear clip, I'll probably make it a quick removable rear..I can install it in 1 minute as it is, just need to figure out how to seal it all up and mount the door latch plates without it rattling and looking nasty)...
anyway, here's some pics..still busy welding and fabricating. http://members.home.nl/m.b.p.jongman/frameext3.jpg http://members.home.nl/m.b.p.jongman/top1.jpg http://members.home.nl/m.b.p.jongman/rearclip11.jpg http://members.home.nl/m.b.p.jongman/rearclip10.jpg |

That is a nice vett it looking very sweet in the Raw.
|
now that's a car
I don't know how I missed this last year when you posted up, but damn that thing is going to be a beast.
|
Thanks for the nice comments..did some more work, new rear crossmember to clear the fuel cell, more bars for the rollcage to stiffemn the kickup area (primary frame weakness of a c2 & c3 vette)..and a shot of the fuell cel frame

Looks like Quite a project......... But looking good!

I finished some more stuff, like my front steer end take off rack and pinion setup:
http://members.home.nl/m.b.p.jongman/steeringshaft2.jpg http://members.home.nl/m.b.p.jongman/steeringshaft1.jpg a little movie: VID messing about w/ gauge placement: http://members.home.nl/m.b.p.jongman/gaugeidea.jpg hard to see but this is a C4 dana 44 in place of the original diff http://members.home.nl/m.b.p.jongman/diffs10.jpg it has an integrated cooler pump mount (I will mount a pulley on the pinion yoke, this pulley will be a sort of brake rotor at the same time, I'll mount a spot caliper there so I can use it as a parking brake and do away with the junk stock system that never works) and I'm going to redo the IRS (I had already built a 5 link), swapping to double a arms and custom upright and laying the shocks w/ a pushrod setup http://members.home.nl/m.b.p.jongman/shockcam2.jpg I've already started building it. |
Here's my chassis design. You can see the oval piping I'm going to use for exhaust (no mufflers drawn in)
http://members.home.nl/m.b.p.jongman/racechassis4.jpg http://members.home.nl/m.b.p.jongman/racechassis5.jpg |
looking very nice - love all the fabrication you are doing.
|
Nice work on Solidworks also...man I love that program....
|
I had finished the 5 bar rear suspension and decided to dump it...instead I decided to do a double a arm suspension so I made a design and got at it. I've got it pretty much finished apart from mounting the shock on the lower arm and welding the upper inner mounts to the frame (after cleaning them up and reshaping them to something decent, they're clamped in for geometry checks)
The design: http://members.home.nl/m.b.p.jongman/reararm_1.jpg http://members.home.nl/m.b.p.jongman/reararm_2.jpg The real deal: http://members.home.nl/m.b.p.jongman/aarmirs1.jpg http://members.home.nl/m.b.p.jongman/aarmirs2.jpg http://members.home.nl/m.b.p.jongman/aarmirs3.jpg |
|
And I completed the front steer end take off rack and pinion....and it even works :D
http://members.home.nl/m.b.p.jongman/frcrossmember1.jpg Just gotta fabricate an adapter block, much like a bumpsteer block but reversed to bring the tie rod hole towards the rim, since it's a front steer it needs to be outboard of the steering axis for the proper ackerman angle. http://members.home.nl/m.b.p.jongman/tierod.jpg http://members.home.nl/m.b.p.jongman/frontchassis.jpg |
looks great - keep up the updates
|
Amazing! That is all I can say about it.
Inspiring enginuity. Thanks, BT  |
