My new life in Pro Street lane.
PLEASE SEE BOTTOM OF PAGE 5 FOR THE FUN PART...I DID NOT WANT TO START A NEW THREAD SO IF YOU WANT THE FUN PART...PAGE 5.
LEAD. Hey guy's, Just tought i'd keep you all posted on my turn around with the project. I sold all my PT stuff to a friend of mine as you already know. So that left me with some cash but no motor, trans wheels etc anymore. I was looking at Racing junk a few weeks ago just to see what was up lately. Turns out, i see this completely new (Mechanically) 1972 Monte Carlo! Complete w/ a 468" BB. Its filled w/Carillo rods, JE pistons, 990 heads mechanical roller cam(680L/316*D) and best of all...An 8-71 BDS blower. Its followed by a built 400 w/brake and 4500 torque an Inland driveshaft, spooled 12 bolt, w/ Strange gears, axles, c-clip elim kit and discs all around. It also has a complete BG fuel system, fuel cell, cage, Morrison/ Gazan susp with air balloon, complete auto meter gauges in a Covans cluster, bran new alum radiator and be cool fan etc etc !!! Its also rolling on 15x3 and 15x10 Weld stars and ET new Drags and ET fronts. It was too nice to pass (at 9k!!!) so i had it brought up from Florida (it was a first for me to have a car trailered by a proffessionnal carrier and it went Sooo well!!!) It went well too at the customs (remember, i'm in Canada) It took like 2 weeks to get it here and i was on vacation meanwhile. No need to say, it was the first time i was lookinf forward to my vacations ending soon in my life!!! So, its now here and we're going to tear it apart and flip the body (its VERY clean, no rust anywhere except the 1/4 lips and even there its minimal, the floors are shiny under the car! It even got me to think about keeping it and flipping the Camaro, but i came to my senses  ) The only bugger is that i'm really going to have to cage the Camaro now and my wife is not at all for dropping the top (the car's...) and the cage. I must admit i kinda share her thinking but, done well and the car dropped to the ground w/ the air ride and on front runners and 30 x 13.5 ET's should be neat. I wish you all could here it live! Its SOOOOO bad A$$! It has a 680 lift and 316* dur mechanical cam in it and square 990 heads. Its responds like nothing i've ever tried too. I went around the block once (as its not licenced or insured because i need to go thru state inspection because its in from the US etc and i'm not going to take care of that hassle since i'm not keeping it, but WOW is all i can say! It pushes so damn hard!!! I figure i have enough parts to accomplish what i want, enough to (by selling off) recoup almost all my investment and i can even sell the blower and change to a centrifugal later if i get tired of the Roots being in my face! ( Good thing is, the BB is already built for boost w/ top parts) So i get my cake and i eat some too! The MC has a Harwood 4" hood and the carbs are flush with the top of the scoop so i'm thinking i might get a 6" hood and drop the engine some tu keep it under the hood or just run stub stacks and screens or something. I want the Super Street look so i'm not really sold on the blower showing thru. Its awesome to run and hear, but thru the hood is kinda 90's i think. Popping the hood at the local drive in and surprising everyone is another thing!!! I'm looking at Monocoque wheels but can't find a dealer! Anyone know of one??? The scheme will remain for the paint tough, triple black w/ red hockey stripe (or maybe black and black top w/ red int and stripe) and red Wilwoods laying on the ground. Hoping to run mid nines. I'm real thrilled and its getting on the move again. I will try to posts some pics and a video link later this week. Sorry for the long post, but its been awhile! Lead. |
Sounds bad a$$!! can't wait to see the pics. good luck.
|
So how much you want for the Monte Carlo?? :unibrow: Pm if you want to sell it.
|
Sounds cool. Post those pics when you can.

Check out the floor...Its rock solid. Too bad i already have a body huh!? Lead. |
Super Cool !!
Love those Monte's. We're starting a 70 Monte "Street Fighter" in January(ish). Keep us posted on cars "personal" transformation. |
love it ! i remember those type of cars i had , some of the best money i wasted on cars . tickets, fuel, tires ( because i had to show them it would do 200ft burnouts )
|
I love first gen Montes! I'll definitely be getting another in the future and giving it the g-machine treatment.
You said it's a 72, it looks like a previous owner transplanted a 71 nose (best of the 3 years IMO). Congrats and good luck with it! |
Bad as Monte!
|
Just making sure you all got it right.... This car is out the door!!!
Its nice, but i'm stripping everything out of it (from the gauges to the carbs) and putting everything in the Camaro! Body will be sold off. Glad you all like it still! Its a monster! Lead. |

Looks like your on the right track that monte does look pretty killer but the camaro will be super sweet with all the candy in it, Welcome to to the Pro Street world i live in it aswell and have always loved the look and attitude of a pro street car, My 48's still in mock up yet but im enjoying the subtle and major custom mods etc that I have tackled so far, but glad to see your building with you heart looks good keep us posted and my buddy is just about done with his 69 pro street its wayyyyyyyy sick i'll try and get some photos of it later George
|
I'm gonna start a semi pro street/super street style 32 ford coupe this winter.
good looking monte. |
Thanks guy's!
I'm happy to see i'm not alone with diverse (should i say fluctuating) taste! Lead. |
sound sweet but sad to see. i was really looking forward to seeing you car all done with those badass forglines and the zo6 brakes....
|
You know,
I really like (Love) my wheels too. Its the damn brakes that started all this change, they are so big you can't fit anything under 18" and even at that their face was so large, the choice of wheels was very limited. I went drag racing with a friend and his car and started thinking about how i would fit 15" slicks on my car to go racing (I know i could prolly have fitted 18's, but me, its one way or no way, Drag wheels are 15's period) and realized my brake issue. As a matter of fact, the wheels are still in my house. My friend took every other thing to his place but still hasn't paid me for the wheels (we agreed to do a split to ease payment) and he said somewhere in October would be it. I had a comment made about Hybrids (ie; BB eng W/ PT rollers and I'm keeping my Air ride), and am looking into this too. I have 4 wheel discs in the Carlo and was planning on swapping them (altough i'm not sure if the front is swappable from the A body to the F (?) as the are completely new or i might look at some 12" Wilwoods which would still be nice thru the wheels. One other thing, i live near Montreal, maybe you saw it on the news lately, we have had two bridges (overpass) fall, so that gives you an idea of the conditions of our roads....I kept picturing my bent Forgeline$ and its hard enough as it is, my wife just bent a 17" on her Cabrio last week and took out the tire too so it just confirmed my worries and made me happy of my choice. I have to be realistic some as i don't have an unlimited budget either. The thick flanks of my 27 and 30" tires will be of big help in surviving those problems. I have pictures to remind me of what it looks like w/ the 20's on it still.... Maybe later (they are putting MONDO cash in the infrastructure since the overpasses thing, we see trucks everywhere repairing this and that. It might be driveable soon! Never know. (Its also a reason why i want to keep the blower under the hood as i don't picture it with the big wheels. Toughts?) Hey, has anyone got a pic of a dropped 69 w/ a 6" outlaw scoop? Lead. :lateral: |
Lead,
Check this link out. It's not a 69, but I think you will like it. https://lateral-g.net/forums/show...ghlight=camaro |
Boy did you make me think of an idea to feed air to those carbs! There is that relatively new company making those tubes...
Thanks! I don't really dig the way the rear wheels are tucked in tough... They look too pushed inside (rel to 1/4 panel) for my taste but sure looks killer otherwise! Thanks again, Lead. |
heres a car that sound like the idea you going for. its a great mix of the two!!! look sick.
http://www.feslerbuilt.com/1969redcamaro.htm i really want to do the c6 zo6 brakes but dont want to run anything over an 18'... |
suck/squeeze/blow/burn
I don't normally like a car with the blower sticking through the hood (except rods) because it stops the visual flow of a car - but that camaro looks fantastic with that blower setup in there at the correct profile. Excellent work !
|

I kept putting my finger on the blower while looking at the car (to hide it). 'Awesome ride for sure...But not together (PT and visible Roots blower). I like it as a Bad Ass PT car, or, i'd put some slicks on it w/ some front runners. Thanks for confirming my toughts aboout my ideas! I look forward to sitting it in the Camaro to see where it will end up height wise... GREAT looking car anyhow! Lead. |
Hey 'Dog,
I like that sentence....Suck, squeeze, blow burn...I might have to get that on my new jacket! Lead. |
A blower on the right car and style looks great, rods and some of the pro street cars, I kinda like your Monte blown.
You'll have a blast with it, there are more styles to build than pro touring, we all have our own style. |
I dig the Monte too. I really had a few days looking at it and its in such great shape..I mean, also, all the hard stuff is done, it needs an interior and some paint.
The thing that i like about PT is the "sport driving" factor and also the long distance haul capability. I'm not saying i wont drive the blower, i'm thinking Gear Vendors. I also tought of doing the Monte Full Race and putting a SB /th700 in the Camaro and just keep my wheels to make it a looker and easy driver. Jee, that sounds better and better.... Lead. |

:D
Thanks! What a great day i'm gonna have now! I installed the air bar last night. See, that new project direction motivates me to work on the Camaro! It went very well, its a tight fit but thats a good thing. I have a set of ET drags i need to get mounted on the MC Wheels to try on the Camaro. I put one in the hole last night and (they are 29.5 x10.5) it looks tight heightwise (like 3/4 inch each side of opening uninflated). I want to run 30x13.5 ET Streets so i think that i will need to open the wheel opening when replacing the 1/4 panel wheel opening (1/4's are great, its just the lip thats not perfect) I so saw the Harwood fiberglass unit but don't know how wide they are opened. I don't want it too opened for nothing. Lead. :lateral: |
Update!
Here's where i'm at now;
http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q...9/DSC08173.jpg http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q...9/DSC08245.jpg http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q...9/DSC08200.jpg http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q...9/DSC08265.jpg http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q...9/DSC08272.jpg I've bought the 30x13" ET streets, 1/4 skins, few other small body parts, A Harwood 4" show hood (from a friend, its all bodyworked and painted already, just scuff and shoot) Also a set of ceramic Hookers, what else?...Anyway, I'm going to set the car up to measure the housing width and then have it cut. I'm lookint at a way of reinforcing the Airbar...My friend that did the cage work is not giving it a big chance at the strip (afraid of the trans brake and tires). Looking at the mounts, i kinda share his toughts. I mean, i prefer beefing it up ahead of time than fixing it once broke...+ the damage it can produce. The cage is almost done, i have a few things i want to add, nothing major. It was built to follow the lines of the car even when the top is down. I also wanted to retain some of my back space for the kids....(i have 2 girls 3 and 5...But my wife just let me know we've got a third one coming! Surprise!!! especially since she uses contraception...Hey, can you feel the power here... hehe) So i think that back seat is going to be kinda useless now! Oh well, so much for family rides i guess.....Unless...wait! Mom!? I'm looking at a rack set up (any preferences here?) because i checked and price wise its almost even if i go to a Hperf manual box and replace everything in the steering system...I've gotten pricing on Wilwoods Dynalite kits for the front also. They seem very nice. The guy that bought the Carlo wanted the front brakes so i sold them to him. Its moving ahead! Lead. Forgot...the structure (frame cowl interior) and complete underside has also been fully sandblasted and is now in epoxy primer. Much more pleasant to work on! |
Wheels
I'm looking at Monocoque wheels but can't find a dealer! Anyone know of one???
Monocoque is dead and gone. Bogart wheels and Hole Shot wheels have very similar looking models. Nothing that is exactly like Single-d*&k wheels, but close. Tim |
Thanks tim,
I decided to keep the Welds for the season. I didn't know 'bout Monocoque tough...Sad. The Bogart are nice too, any idea who sells them? Thanks! Lead. |

|
Sweet looking car and those wheels are sweet, thinking about for my Camaro
|
Yeah, wheels look great, i can't find a link to the company?
Do they have other models? Thanks! Lead. |
Wow - Tim the camaro looks great. I love the cage - I am happy you did it because i was curious to see how it would look in my 2nd gen camaro project.
PS - love the Monte - Had a buddy who had one growing up and we had a blast in that car. pss - you need some billet hood pins for it ( shameless plug ) |

Moving ahead
Haaa!
The big brown truck came by today. He left a few boxes... http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q...9/DSC08824.jpg http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q...9/DSC08820.jpg I'm almost done filling and sanding the firewall and frame (pics when done). and i'm still much motivated. I'm planning on the front suspension set up now. I saw the air pod that looks very nice. I have no lower A-arms so i'm considerint the strong arms with shockwaves to go with my existing airbar. This is a big $tep tough and i'm debating to do it now or make the car rolling and come back to this later. I don't remember if i had posted about these when i got them? http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q...9/DSC08712.jpg SC&C...Very nice, thanks Mark. 'More soon! Lead (Looking for great price on Wilwood...Ask me ok!!! No one offered me what i got, except this guy!) |
Well soon did not make it! but it has been going forward to some extent. I had to go thru back surgery and also got a 3rd littl princess since last post (Livia, my third with blond hair and blue eyes! What can a Dad ask 4 more!!!!)
Anyway, car has been put aside many times but now the final stretch is on, i just got it from the paint shop yesterday and man its nice! With all that time that has been passing, i'm now thinking of maybe getting back into PT...Lol! You caould say i got my senses back somewhat.... Its too nice not to be driven and all we see in Magazines now is drivers and people having fun with their cars...What i had in mind from the start. I'm thinking of just some wheels and keep the BB for now (got an LS2 Alum Trailblazer motor down the pipe for a later TT build) but one step at a time as to not stall anymore. (Change of mind costs money and time!) We'll see, meanwhile, here is the beast in color, hope you like it (it still needs some cutting /buffing but the big part is done, they will finish it onnce i am done piecing it back and fix what will enivitably be needed, / accidents happen you know...) Enough bla bla, on to fun stuff; http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q...9/DSC03987.jpg http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q...9/DSC03993.jpg http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q...9/DSC03969.jpg hell staring at you...thats 3-4 hours in the car port in front of the garage (wax on floor drying) ....Think i like washing....Better get used to it i think! http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q...9/DSC03971.jpg At the shop; http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q...9/DSC03890.jpg http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q...9/DSC03895.jpg http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q...9/DSC03889.jpg I like the BS Apex very much... http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q...9/img_3631.jpg I also started my console and some other interior parts to some degree, http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q...9/DSC03028.jpg I dont have a recent shot of the motor/ engine compartment but here it is before paint, i also have gone with black/ platinum hose fittings, still same but needs clean up now.... http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q...9/DSC02528.jpg I have my new top here, its a Canvas one, man it looks incredible, cant wait to have it on. (outsourcing this too) i have a new motor for the top and hoses also. Everything new! Everything! Hope you guy's like it! Lead. |
