Side mirrors
 

I want to run 2nd Gen F-body side mirrors on my car, so for those that have done that, where did you score your set? Seems to me that this has been discussed in the past and there was a place/storefront on Ebay that specialized in that.

I had talked to Mark about it, and he mentioned that side mirrors off the '77 Malibu is a better fit.

Comments? Suggestions? :thumbsup:

I had a set for my last Camaro, and they are a bolt on basically. Maybe some slight shaping to the base. I just bought repro ones from the local "Classic Industries" type shop.

Scott, if you can't find any let me know. I've got a used set of second gen mirrors and bought new replacement mirrors and gaskets. They did'nt work on my 67 because of the vent windows.

I prefer the late 70's Chevelle mirrors over the second gen camaro mirrors. The A-body base has two studs and the gasket and works much better than the f-body version that uses a bracket like on the first gen camaro mirrors. Also the camaro mirror is a little shorter and I prefered the taller Chevelle mirror like Mark used on the Mule. If you need a visual I have pics of both installed.

I've had both (chevelle/camaro) on the car and then went back to stock in the end :)

I bought 4 sets off ebay before I found a real nice set for a fair price. The Ebay store I would recommend is called something like California Parts...but they are located elsewhere...I think they just buy a lot of California parts cars.

I had purchased a set of new 2nd gen mirrors for my 442, but decided against them when I discovered that the two sides are shaped differently. I don't know why this seemed important to me, as I had never noticed this on any of the cars I have seen them on, but for some reason it made a difference.

haha yep... it is wierd i noticed that when i first got the car. the pass is soooo hard to get angled right to see good out of. it still sucks

Scott, the ultimate mirror set would include a left and right-side remote version. I think they had them in the mid-70's A-bodies.

I have a set tucked away for my '69. The cable for the right side mirror is about 6 feet long :-)

i found someone selling a 72 camaro parts car and askd him if i could just buy his mirrors. he said yes, and there they were :yes:

I got one of my sets off my brother-in-laws dirt track cars (70 something camaro) he was building...got to love family!!

Where are we at with this, Scott what did you end up using? I have a set from Ebay with the studs in side. They fit terrible. How do I tell the differance from the 2nd gen to the chevelle. Pics would be great.

This is what I got, I don't know if there Camaro,Malibu or Corvette. But I think the stem is to short and I think there going to hit the Glass. Also the Gasket does not fit very good it keeps sliding out. Any direction? I did order another set off ebay tonight, There supposed to be Malibu but who knows!

I used Buick LaSabre mirrors. I think like 98, I'll have to check. Dont have pictures, not installed yet.

Those are the Chevelle mirrors not second gen camaro. They are the same that Mark used on the Mule, and what I prefer. They may take a little grinding of the base to get them to fit right to the door...but you have the correct mirrors if you like what's on the Mule. Yes they mount pretty close to the glass but it shouldn't be a problem.

I did notice at SEMA that many are using Camaro mirrors now too.I think they are a little too short for my tast though.

I am pretty sure they need some grinding to get em"straight" . Has anybody info how much need to be taken ? I am a middle same process.

Here's how much I had to grind to get the mirrors to fit level on a '68 door...my understanding is that they take a little less grinding to fit the profile of the '69 door which also allows the stock gasket to fit better on the '69 as well.
